Guests on group land

Most of you will know the problem: We have several parcels rented by tenants who have their homes there, all is group land with access for the group only. Now the tenants want to invite guests to their homes, i.e. to the group, they can do that. Of course those guests never get deleted from the group either because the tenants simply forget it or because it is embarrassing for them.

So every month we end up with 100 guests, half of them nobody knows. Then I have to manually collect lists and eject those nobody knows. They in turn come back to me and complain, a nightmare.

Ideally these guests would get a pass to access the parcel for say an hour or so, whatever the tenant chooses.

I am sure somebody has a good solution for this problem, I would be willing to invest some money, if I need a product to do this for me. Any ideas?

Many thanks, Violet

Not sure if such a product exists, other than a security device, but that requires a list as well.

My group list also has people I've never heard of. I just leave them on, because who can take the time to contact everyone to see why they got there. Most will leave the group on their own, especially if they don't want to receive group notices.

I also don't restrict access on my land. Rather leave it open and then ban the ones that take advantage or are intruding.

A scripted solution shouldn't be all that difficult, but it might just be easier to restrict things like rezzing/etc to the rentals group only, removing access restrictions and possibly give renters the ability to eject/ban avies (if they have the ability to deed, they can already do that indirectly anyway).

is this something the "buy pass" function could help with?

i've only seen it once ... i went to a movie theater in sl and had to buy a 24-hour pass to get onto the land the theaters were on.

I understand. I cull the list for residents, but do not know who the guests are guests of. Most leave on their own. The ones that haven't logged in in months, I have no qualms about deleting. The only other way to control it would be for you to do all the invitations, and only at the request of your tenants. I assume that if a griefer shows up out of this group after invitation by a resident, it is a risk worth taking, rather than micromanaging group membership.

There is a setting in About Land>Access that has to do with guest passes. Searched in Knowledge Base for "Buy Pass" and here is what turned up:

------------------------
"Buy Pass: If your access to this land is restricted, you can click this button to buy an access pass, letting you enter the land for the amount of time for which the pass is good."

------------------------
Found an access settings chart, inside an entry called "Age Verification Parcel and Estate Management Features". One setting listed in the chart you might try is:

Allow Group Access = Selected
Sell passes to = Selected
Drop-Down = Anyone
Results in: Group members allowed, Anyone can buy a pass

can you just create a new role within the group? give the visitors the general tag and give your residents a special resident tag.

dont give ability to change roles to residents and then when you have to kick you know who to kick?

That's not the problem - the problem is, at the end of the month, having a ton of guests in the group that need to be ejected, and not knowing exactly which ones they are.

I just don't bother. I don't have the patience to exert that much control over the guests.

Yes, that's it. Create a role for Tenants only, and let their guests be added as Everyone. Then you only have to kick out the names under Everyone.

if you had a special role for visiting guests .. why not just eject ALL of them at the end of each month?

edit: gmta

I don't do that, because they may be friends of long term tenants. I'm not running a brothel where it makes sense to make people pay to come see their "friends." I have people who have been with me for months - why should I make them re-invite their friends over and over again? Until it's a problem, I am not going to worry about it. Others will feel differently (and are not necessarily running a brothel... I was just being facetious in finding something where people needed to pay for access).

Sensitive!!

I'm just saying, there is no need for tenants to make their friends pay for access unless it was in a different business model where it would make logical sense.

Yes, a member is a good thing to have in a brothel...

sorry, cristalle, i was just kidding ... well, kidding about resenting it anyway .. hehe

i think we're all just brainstorming for possible solutions. neither the "buy pass" nor the "visitor role" seem perfect. maybe there IS no easy solution.

If you have never had any problems, then why not opening access to all? I never use blanket bans, especially if it's group land, for the problems you have mentioned. If you have problems with a particular individual, why not ban that person only? That or let your tenants use their own orbs which they can adjust themselves.
We are offering you feedback, but you seem to shoot us all down.

Huh? Calveen, I am not the one with the problem. I just offered the way I handle my business as an option.
