System failures of various types are inevitable, especially when dealing with technology. They'll fix it as fast as they can manage.

I was already in world and they logged me out or didnt you get that part? It was not necessary to log me off.

It's not just you, check the status blog, they are fixing an issue currently.

Except, you know, maybe people that were sending data through certain areas were interfering with things. It's silly to assume that everything will be peachy when one system fails, as other systems rely on that to work properly. If inventory isn't working for X people, then having those people trying to get their inventory may slow down the process of fixing it.

Unless you know exactly how it works (And I don't, but it's a plausible explanation, I think), you shouldn't assume that it's 'not necessary' to do something in order to fix it.

She has a point..and sure techi issues are inevitable b ut they are even more inevitbale when you let some idiot who calls himself a programmer insert untested code into a eserver that's not backed up> I've watchyed this go on too. You want to know how it works? Ask me. I have an 18 sim grid running off a PC in house that niether lags nor crashes.

That one works, and pretty good chance I can tell you why Linden's doesn't work.

If you are going to gripe about others complainig about things not working and defend Linden saying they'll fix it as soon as they can, and how wonderful thier support is, perhaps you need to remove your rose colorred glasses as Selene was precisely correct about thier constant breaking of things and total lack ofsupport for any users who own less then about ten sims.

There are issues and they are working on them. I tried Beta and got in fine, I tried an alt in Agni and got in without any inventory and a cloud that was probably Ruth I'm not going to even try to login until the status says ok. I know it sucks but that's life on the grid.

There are sims out there with pending downloaditis too, that's usually hardware.

It's not the same. As much as it would be awesome if it was (I dunno if that made sense), it's not. You don't have anywhere near the sim density of LL, your data isn't stored in multiple physical locations, each with their own individual risks and problems, you're not providing inventory, script processing, server-side physics, etc, etc for tens of thousands of people at any given time.

You aren't sending out new viewer versions with fixes, and updates, or server versions, you don't have nearly the load on your data that they do, etc, etc, etc. You can say why your 18 sims might not work, but that doesn't mean you can say why LL's aren't working, unless you've worked in that kind of environment.

Anywho, have fun, hope it works soon.

I'm not going to waste more time butting heads with people who know less about SL than I do.

After constantly hitting the log in button until I drove the system to the brink of insanity, it let me back in.

I mean absolutely no offense when I say this, but when you can support 80,000 concurrent users, I'll ask.

Until and unless you've got a lot of experience in high-concurrency/high-availability server architecture, you can only speculate on the issues.

No I am not a bot just a disgusted long time rezzie. Disgusted with Linden's total lack of concern for the user experience or the reputation they are developping for having absolutely no support for customers. This is thier system, create a new bug....for two weeks they ignore the bug reports, then for two weeks they say they are looking into it, then two more weeks silence, then the big announcement...the new bug has been renamed and is now called a feature. The real problem in SL is all the ID10T errors in the tech dept.

Funny you should say that since I have worked tech support on various contracts. The major difference between what I did and what LL does is most of my callers got off the phone smiling after thanking me for helping them fix thier issue....EVEN WHEN IT FELL WELL OUTSIDE MY OWN SUPPORT BOUNDARIES!

You state Linden is spending time sending out upgrades and fixing things....there are FOURE YEAR OLD BUGS they have refused to address, and worse..there is even a floating point error in thier code that's been around since the beta testing days NO ONE has ever looked at.

It's always been facinating to me that we are riding a wild wave into the future. Things are unpredictable and that's actually part of what holds my interest. People are always wishing to be part of a great saga, to experience magic and twists of fate - which is what I see SL to be. It just seems to me that when it's in front of us we should be able to value the wildness of the ride and not long for the predictable.

I know this isn't what you want to hear; forgive me for expressing my point of view.

then if you know so much, and feel so strongly, go to them, apply for a job there, get hired and fix it all.

(or start your own grid, call it third life, or another life, or whatever you want)

We are already in the process of doing just that.

I'm glad they helped you. Now then not to long ago a guy in SL was dealing with a 17 year old boy his SL gf had messed with. being a kid the boy was understandably a bit more uncontrollably distraught than those of us who are more mature wou;ld've been....this gentleman found out the 17 year old kid lived near me. He sent me a notecard with the kid's RL name, his father's RL name, his address and his phone number wanting me to go commit serious bodily harm on the kid. I obviously did not do so however I did turn in the report to Linden about this gentleman sending me another user's RL info hoping to get me to buy into it. I even saved the note and put in the report I would give it to a lidason in world so they can check the creator name on it. Linden's response to someone trying to conspire to commit bodily harm on aminor was absolutely none. I got the form letter back, then another one stating they were looking ito it. That was almost two monthys ago. Nothing furyther and the gentleman who tried getting this done is still in SL.

Want to tell me how concerned they are now since they won't even really look at my Abuse Report against the gentleman when it involves a threat to someone?

and exactly how do you know they are not researching it?
just because they are still in world doesn't mean linden is not doing anything

besides that is not for me to know or question...

All I know is I have had good results with all situations I have had to deal with and have had to have linden help with.

then if you are making your own, why are you so bent out of shape about LL and SL... why not just use your own??
