From: Avion Raymaker And how long did it take you, the most paranoid and mistrusting person in all the forums, to type out this hypocritical piece of garbage?
The personal vendetta is pretty transparent, Ricardo. You're not going to fool everyone in the forums into disliking me. nope Avion, its not you. ricky is an equal opportunity curmudgeon. imho, i think he needs more fiber in his diet. the real trick in how to deal with the rickster? see that button there? the one that has mute on it? nods, yeah, there ya go!! now don't ya feel better? as for your post, lastest whats happening at LL is that they may be doin default ava makeovers, so that could be the new and improved ruth you are seeing, or a test bot i think its called.

Being bored I tp'd to the location you speak of... sure enough within a minute one came by. Doesn't speak, missing images... so I decided to be rude and push the av around a little and it did nothing, then left in about 5 minutes. Ok maybe I too have nothing better to do but its really strange. Would be fun to see someone figure it out...

Maybe this particular person is making bots for whatever reason, created a whole bunch of av accounts in February. She's just using your spot as the first landing after OI and before she goes on her way to bot destination?

*puts on evil scripter hat*
I don't think they've fixed the bug in llGetObjectDetails that lets you find out where someone TP'd to, have they? If the AVs always rez in at about the same place, it would be very tempting to drop an object there that makes a list of the destinations that nearby AVs TP out to.
It could write you an IM every 20 names or so and clear out its list, so it doesn't run out of memory.
Just, you know, to see if there's a pattern.

saw my first confirmed bot the other day
03-18-2008 15:59
It landed on our private isle. Its name even had bot in it. Webbot or something. It LOOKED like a robot with its building block shapes, but appeared to be primbuilt on a basic SL avatar. . I looked at its profile and it declared itself a scanning, cataloging, search enginey bot. It weirded me out, so I hit EJECT and sent it flying. As it got sucked into a sim corner I could see its little arms and legs flaying about. Was kinda creepy, this dead thing with arms and legs wiggling around.

Some of the landbot groups use multiple bot accounts to do their scans. The behavior you are describing is exactly the same as I see when they pop by every little while; several times a day.
Most are female, they TP in over a dedicated 16sqm plot which is expressly for this purpose, hang around 5-10 minutes scanning the area, then TP away. It is usually easy to identify them, due to the Missing Image or Grey skin/clothes textures, usually Ruths or sometimes the male version. I surmise that there are a core group of people whose job it is to run and supervise the bots, as I don't think one person is doing them all. They usually are "tenant" members of this particular land group.
All in all, I would just ignore them. It is obvious enough to tell they are bots. As long as they aren't overtaxing the sim resources to do their work, there shouldn't be a problem.

It could be scanning for avatars to populate a database of avatar keys. But the chatspy thing that Atashi mentioned is very scary. That's why I restrict all the building/script privileges to group.

From: Avion Raymaker Ricardo, honey, maybe you should come up with even more personal insults to try to prove that you don't have any personal vendetta!
Maybe a week at one of my gay resorts would calm you down. Some of my guys really like that rough stuff. No wonder, I should of figured it out. I'll decline the invite cause I see you everyday at work. Riots and fighting among the population of inmates. Oh, yeah, they love sweet delicate things. With this said I failed to see where I insulted you on my first post or even the second. If anything you did this to me, once again like the other day without any provocation. But even if I had which I didn't aren't you used to that by now? I would certainly think so, no?

From: Bradley Bracken There was no paranoia or anything of the sort in your post. Naturally anyone would be curious and given some of the odd things that occur in SL you simply asked if there's something nefarious that could be going on. You made it plain and clear that if not you couldn't care less. I don't know why anyone would read more than that in your post unless they are looking for an argument or debate without merit. Me thinks you and Rainman are one and the same. Oh, Raymaker, my bad.

From: Ricardo Harris Gasp* Choke* Does anyone know CPR? You're killing Ricardo! Of course, a lot of people around here would probably be happy about that, but that's just wrong. If this is some kind of bot, why are they just showing up at this parcel? Why aren't multiple people reporting tons of bots on their property all the time? What's special about this place that draws legions of bots who leave everyone else alone?

That makes two of us: I camped there for a while, too. There was one there when I arrived (born Dec 2007, btw, not Feb 08, and had non-prim Ruth hair, but otherwise same MO); she left after a few catatonic minutes. Didn't see another before I had to leave (maybe a half hour or so). Kinda hard to see what a landbot would look at in a private sim full of rental property, but maybe it's harder to exclude the sim than to just let the bots go there and do their little mapping thing with the same results every time. I suppose they could be populating an avatar key database, as Talarus suggests, or collecting sim performance statistics (agents in the sim, etc., sampled for five minute intervals)--or whatever else happens on those mysterious 16m "data network" plots on the Mainland. It would seem awfully difficult to program a bot to gather information about rental vacancies, or any other info that would be of much value to a competitor. So, still a mystery.

probably just a log in point for a bot program, staying there while the program scans the grip for a camping spot.

I didn't realise they let you have access to SL in prison, Ricardo. How did you swing that one? Does it involve giving favours to that big guard who always looks at you funny and says "you have a pretty mouth, boy"?
