i like static yachts, but no way would I want to move one that big.

I actually LOVE the idea of the sky yacht in a bubble. (/me goes off looking for mega sphere prims for her yacht in storage.)

I've been on the big yacht of Briannas once. It was very nice.

But whats really caught my eye is a NEW super huge luxury 767 Super jet that I inspected last weekend. It's almost sim sized it seems and very very nicely built. (i must have!)

You can buy sailable yachts (or galleons) that include a live-on version. However, if big enough to live on, they will only survive the gentlest of sim crossings when being sailed. And many people find the process of preparing to sail tedious - it generally involves:

-- Rez the vehicle framework, which is less than 30 prims and has poseballs for captain and crew
-- Captain sits and attaches the visible "boat", which does not usually include any furniture that works. (This attachment is usually what is used as the rezzable live-on version. It often has a touch command that rezzes furniture when used statically)

Note also that SL boats can sail either like a car moves, using the arrow keys, or by using the SL wind to actually sail by moving the sails. Some boats can do either.

If you want to have a boat docked that you can simply sit on and sail away, it has to be relatively few prims, and should be limited in size so as to survive sim crossings.

Just look at the map. Mainland's water areas are chockfull of ocean liners and yachts

Many serve as nightclubs.

Did I ever tell you about the time in real when a bloke tied me up with an anchor rope? And teh next morning the rope trail from the boat led up to his apartment and through into his bedroom?

I can assure you that nylon is a chaffy kinda rope.
