Hey there im a regular reader of these forums and now im de-lurking hehe. I shelled out good Lindens for a yacht not knowing that there are static yachts and drivable yachts *sighs* I shouldve done some research before i purchased but i can be impulsive with my Lindens at times. I still think the guy that runs the shop shouldve differentiated bw static and drivable yachts tho on his Notecard information. I did send a notecard to him ..he picked it up so didnt bother replying. I guess thats what happens sometimes.

Anyway i cant find any beautiful spots to rezz my yacht ....anyone got any help for me?? Anyone own one of these and if so what do you do with a static yacht?? lol. HELP!!!

Thanks in advance to answers and any silliness that may ensue from my stupidity...hey we all live and learn tho :))

Sink it and then advertise diving expeditions to explore it.

Be careful though and make sure the ocean you choose is in an adult SIM.

There's quite a rubber fetish communiity and I think any mention of "diving for clams" might attract a different crowd than you were expecting.

And for God's sake, don't offer to blow someone's snorkel.

Usually, if I see a static yacht, that's my clue to leave the sim. (^_^)

Moreso if the WHOLE BLOODY THING is fullbright. (^_^)y

In general, a "static" yacht is just a prefab house designed for a water parcel. You pretty much need a parcel of your own, with suitable water and sufficent prims available, to make much use of one. But if you have such a parcel, they can be rather nice to have. My advice woulkd be to rent or buy a suitable parcel to set your yacht up on, and use it as your home, or as an accessory for your home.

Try going to Bay City with your yacht. If you go to the Hau Koda airport, near the West end of the harbor, they have a rezzing area and a boat ramp. I *think* you may be able to rez the yach there short term, but auto-return will eventually kick in and send it back to your lost and found. Trying to set up any sort of static build on land that is not yours is difficult, and usually only lasts a short time before the parcel owner returns it to you. Rezzing something on someone else's land without permission and trying to leave it there is grounds for an abuse report being filed against you.

what do you do with a _static_ yacht... i guess you park it somewhere and show off.

or rather, _try_ to impress the owners of all those non-static yachts as they run circles around your prim thing.

A static yacht skybox, set within a hollowed mega full of prim water with dolphins. Then throw cocktail parties on it.

buy a parcel that is the top of a mountain set it out, and sell tickets to view the arc.

Actually, static yachts are quite popular. They're a niche housing market.

I have a rather nice one in my inventory, and lived on it for nearly a year, docked at my waterfront parcel.

If it's modifyable, though, you might try something I saw a while back...someone had bought or built a small cruiser and sunk it. From the outside, it was a realistic wreck, sitting at an angle on the sea floor. On the inside, though, the floors had been arranged to be level, and it was done up as a very comfortable living space.

One of the most charming and unique builds I've encountered.

It was fun.

Build a boatyard and put it up on chocks. Retexture it so it looks perpetually under construction/repair. Rez a chair and a beer cooler next to the boat. Spend all your time there.

In other words, a re-creation of the RL boat-owning experience.

Wahhh! So TRUE Lindal!

Any RL boat-owner will tell you the worst possible way to go sailing is to buy a yacht. Always working on it, trying to pay for it and/or searching for crew. Conversely, the best way to go sailing is to find said desperate boat-owners, buy the drinks when it's your round and leave all the worry to them.

That or get a drivable yacht in SL, of course :-)

Not sure I agree really.

I've found that giving the old girl a good bottom-scraping is one of the true joys of ownership.

Very similar, although I find getting the barnacles off the boat's bottom a lot easier than the wife's.

static yachts can much larger and fancier than a drivable yacht due to sl limitations. the yacht on ninbriana was 4 levels tall, 150m long 30m wide and 5000+ prims. theres no way to drive something that large in any practical way, especially with 10k prims of furnishings/contents.

i suppose in the end, a drivable yacht is for recreation, while a static yacht is used as a home.

by now there are physics-enabled drivable yachts with close to 1000 prims... using the old "vehicle+attachment" scheme. Just with more than one attachment.

still way too primmy to actually drive across a sim border :/

you don't, the furniture's already part of the yacht.

you see, it works like this:
you rez the vehicle. the script in the vehicle rezzes & positions the attachments so that you have a yacht you can walk around in. when you sit in the drivers seat the attachments attach to your avi, when you stand up the attachments detach themselves and the vehicle rezzes new ones.

thats not practical to live in, particularly with 10,000 prims of home contents.
you would need anything you rezzed in your home to be mod and scripted.

oh, but, you see, the boats i'm talking about are not meant for living in them... they are boats. they move, fast.
