I witnessed a child avatar and an adult avatar engage in a sexuall act and i learned that if this is consented its not against the rules, unless I received the wrong information. If so I think that is wrong. It was in mature area but i should not have to witness this. I know its different because there is an adult on the other end but still THIS IS WRONG!

Being a child avatar is absolutely ok. Nothing wrong with that.

Sex is an entirely different issue. The mentor was confused. It is against the TOS.

This is one of the few things that will get you the death sentence in SL. The helper was misinformed.

(And here I was jes tinking there hadn't been a kid avvie thread this week)

Here ya go, Chux: https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/User:Marianne_McCann/Child_Avatars

Oh, and this may not technically be "pedophilia," as there are no actual children involved. The common term 'round here has been "sexual ageplay."

I was kinda thinking the same thing, but I gotta play along, at least a bit.

Under our Community Standards policy, real-life images, avatar portrayals, and other depictions of sexual or lewd acts involving or appearing to involve children or minors are not allowed within Second Life. When detected, individuals and groups promoting or providing such content and activities will be subject to sanctions, which may include termination of accounts, closure of groups, removal of content, and loss of land or access to land.

There are three key aspects, which are in breach of the Community Standards:

(1) participation by Residents in lewd or sexual acts in which one or more of the avatars appears to represent minors (or the depiction of such acts in images, video, textures, or text) is a violation of the Community Standards;

The rest is here:

http://blog.secondlife.com/2007/11/13/clarification-of-policy-disallowing-ageplay/

Sexual ageplay is clearly banned, and if you know the names of the AVs involved can be AR'd.

And getting the wrong information at Orientation Island is pretty bad.

Once I told someone who was talking to me about how they engage in that sort of thing. Besides telling him/her, that I didn't approve in that sort of thing, I said, "You will be banned."

The person responded. "So what, I'll just start another account."

Same way you report anything. Might be a bit late at this point, but yes, though the usual channels.

Do make sure you actually did see a child and adult avatar, however. It could have been a dwarf, fairy, etc. Also, I would recommend, in situations like this, you have a screenshot and log available, etc. The burden of proof may well be on you.

Did they add it to the TOS?

Or the Community standards?

Its definitely against Linden Policy.

the Blog post Wulfric listed makes that very clear. And we were all here for when it went down.

But I don't think they ever amended to TOS/CS / Nor intend to- leading to obvious confusions on the part of people like that Mentor.

I couldn't find it in the TOS or CS, which is why I posted the blog entry.

Good point, Colette. It woiuld probably be helpful for LL to collect all policies on what is forbidden/not forbidden in one accessible place. The older the blog posts get that state grid-wide policies, the less reasonable it is to expect people to be aware of them.

Yes I think that the blog is the only place its specifically stated as policy.

Which is significant because -

The Community Standards are worded in such a way that would make it appear to be "allowed" on Mature land.

--------------

Indecency
Second Life is an adult community, but Mature material is not necessarily appropriate in all areas (see Global Standards below). Content, communication, or behavior which involves intense language or expletives, nudity or sexual content, the depiction of sex or violence, or anything else broadly offensive must be contained within private land in areas rated Mature (M). Names of Residents, objects, places and groups are broadly viewable in Second Life directories and on the Second Life website, and must adhere to PG guidelines.

Global Standards, Local Ratings
All areas of Second Life, including the www.secondlife.com website and the Second Life Forums, adhere to the same Community Standards. Locations within Second Life are noted as Safe or Unsafe and rated Mature (M) or non-Mature (PG), and behavior must conform to the local ratings. Any unrated area of Second Life or the Second Life website should be considered non-Mature (PG).

-----------------

There is no mention in the CS of activities that are "too indecent" (outside of intolerance) for Second Life at all. Even though a later Blog post by Dan Linden said they exist.

At the very least report it to to the Sim Owners. A lot of them have specific policies, and can file a complaint with LL.

I think they have been against clear rules on behavior however something Robin said about if they define it then people will push the limit anyway.

Which seems odd, because people will push things without the definition there regardless.

Oh, and this may not technically be "pedophilia," as there are no actual children involved.

"Paedophilia" (or "pedophilia";) is _feeling the emotion_ of sexual attraction to children. There doesn't have to be an actual child involved, nor even another adult.

The legal offense involving an actual child is "child abuse". And Mari is right, unless the actual player of the av is underage that can't happen in SL.

This does bring up an interesting point though, because as far as I'm aware, LL didn't actually explicitly ban sexual ageplay, they only banned the public advertising of it? (Which would seem to be a rather serious omission if true) That may have just been because they didn't want to create a policy which would require people to be spying on other people's private activity in order to be enforced, but I'm not sure.

The OP gives so little information, for all we know he witnessed a father kissing his daughter hello. I wonder how many walls he had to cam through to "witness" the act.

I've been under the impression for a long time now that sexual acts involving child avatars is a bannable offense.

You would need to be careful with this. In the UK having a screenshot of sexual ageplay on your computer would get you into trouble. I would imagine its not just the UK too.

From reading the ensuing replies to your opening post..am I right in understanding that a Mentor told you that is was not against the TOS?

I noticed that one or two people mentioned a Mentor getting it wrong, but I cant see that stated in your post.

You sound shaken up by it :( You were right to come here and ask for advice, you have had some great informative answers :)
