That one caused a little confusion for me a while back. In the US (well in Texas at least)
"fanny" is a slang term for your rear end, ass or arse if you prefer. A mostly innocent remark about a Texas "fanny" can take on a whole new meaning when replaced with a British "fanny".

Yes, I met an American woman who told me she kept her money in a "fanny pack" when she went touring and said "what???" when my eyes went wide.

LOL. This confused my husband in the beginning, too, when he moved here from England. You lot call them "bum bags"...we call them "fanny packs".

First of all, Novis - jeesh - buy a globe already! "Down There" = Australia, not the US. At the very least, it might mean Mexico, where they don't carry around pinatas, but they do wear tight black pants and enormous hats while strolling around playing the guitar. So the women the OP was talking about were probably Mexican immigrants to Australia.

I found out recently that Australia and Austria were two entirely different places. I always suspected that Arnold Schwartzenegger and Paul Hogan had different accents, but I thought it was a regional thing. Maybe a steroid thing.

All kidding aside, different people have different set points for communication. I'm not sure it has anything to do with their RL gender. I tend to be ok when I'm joking around, but much more careful in serious conversations about the language I choose. That's just me, though. You need to make allowances for people from different cultures, different religions, ages, geographic locations, educational levels, etc... There are too many variables to list.

I am reading all these - I was mainly concerned with the issue of inuendo and euphemism. Since they can mask honesty. I am sorry if I sound crude or crass - perhaps my real age / circumstances / social situation has made me who I am. I am concerned when we cannot be honest about ourselves. Yeah, I use 4 letter words. So did Shakespeare. So what?
We must NOT be ashamed of our bodies. Especially our CARTOON bodies Nor will I hide mine. I recommend the "Vagina Monologues". In my real life I am a blunt person - m ost of you probably wouldnt put up with me. In real, my mum is proud of me :)

This was my point. You have to make allowances for the fact that other people's real age/circumstances/social situations have made them what they are as well, and they might approach things differently than you do. It's ok for us to all be different. Some people prefer to use a euphepism. It doesn't mean they are ashamed of their bodies or dishonest. It just means they take a different approach than you do.

I don't base any decision about someone's honesty or lack thereof on their syntax ... I am hopelessly likely to draw conclusions about people based on little info (project), but even I would hesitate to go that far.

For me Jig hon, language is my playground. Ima not let you or anyone tell me how to juggle my toys! So yeah, you can be offended at my euphemisms or crudity or hehes, that's your gig ... but don't be amazed when others don't share it.

Using language as a mode of sexual activity, essential anyway but especially in SL, I use whatever language comes to hand, trying to avoid being boring and favouring (of course) the words that turn on my partner, crude or delicate, whatever they may be. But for the life of me I can't remember ever talking about it with anybody else in SL. So I really dont know what words I would use. Is this unusual - do people talk about their sexual parts, in SL, other than in sex? What am I missing?

Hal - I think the Op was talking about skin shopping, where I guess it's appropriate for the shoppers to discuss private parts, especially the women, as their private parts can come painted on - whereas for us, we have to go attach prims and the like. There's one situation where discussing them in the context of the way the skin looks makes sense.

During sex, I guess you're right - you need to know your partner and what turns her on and craft your language to meet her desires. It's not a matter there of being coquettish or crude or anything else - it's a matter of mutually painting a scene together with someone that you both enjoy.

Which reminds me of my hangup - I can't bring myself to use the C word. The one that's in the poster Jez posted. I don't know why I can't get over that hangup. I'm not embarrassed or ashamed or anything like that; I'm just really uncomfortable with it. I was raised in a family and a culture where that is absolutely the worst of the 4-letter words. It's where I come from. I can be as foul-mouthed and crude as anyone if I want, but I just don't use that word. Weird, huh? I never pretended to be anything other than a complete psychological mess, though.

No, you're not missing anything...
I don't remember talking about my vagina to anyone in RL or SL outside of close friends or lovers. Not because the subject is shameful, shocking or sinful. Simply because it doesn't come up that often at work, family dinners, the grocery store, the gym, etc.

Whichever words you use to communicate, it's always good to keep your audience in mind.
I still don't really understand what 'Hehehe' has to do with being a real woman, though.

You're not alone with that! I can't do it, either.
No idea why. While some may think that using it is simply taking ownership of the word in a feminist sort of way, it has been used in a very derogatory fashion for a long while and I have no interest in that. Kind of like the N word for certain people. I don't get it.

Then again, I can't understand why guys use "suck my d**k" to indicate disgust with anyone, including guys, when it's an act they so obviously enjoy. What does that say about women who take them up on that invitation in a different setting?

Then again, I'm easily confused.

Hehehe

I refer to my private area as down there, but I do not hehehe, I do heh though
and lol, at times

very rarely do I ROFL

and yes I am very much female, I would say it is obvious when I am DJing LOL

oops see there is a LOL now, but no hehehe

I have hehe before though

don't think I ever haha, but I have HA! before

*grins*

Edited to add.,.. (after about 10 503 errors GRRR)

anywho...

The word Cunt and the expression "suck my dick" have always confused me
as a previous poster mentioned, why do men use the expression suck my dick, when they obviously love having it done.
and why is the term Cunt so bad, when most men (not all) want to be in that location LOL

*color me confused*

I think because men use it as an abusive term for other men, like a much nastier version of 'girlie-man'.
Imagine women calling other women 'dick-head' as an insult - that would be the same sort of thing.

Ok I must admit. I am very respectful of the people around me. In Rl I work with young people and I volunteer with children. I always watch my mouth, even when SL skin shopping.

I don't typically say, "down there" and I don't "he he" often. I don't usually talk about my vagina, I usually talk to her.
