Land Problem

I seem to have fallen into a problem this afternoon and since I am new to SL I thought I would ask the older residents about a solution. I bought a parcel of land, it was transferred to me and it shows up on my transaction log. The previous owners showed up and accused me of stealing their parcel. They were quite rude about it and demanded that I remove everything from the lot. Do you suppose they are trying to extort money out of me? What would you advise. Thanks in advance for the help. It took me by surprised because so far, everyone I have met in SL has been friendly. These people were real jerks. Help!

Is the person complaining to you the person who transferred it to you? If they are not, I'd just ignore/mute them unless you feel they have a valid claim.

If you bought the land and it was transferred to you...this person has no claim.

However....if you somehow managed to buy the land to a ridiculously low price that the seller mistakenly set the land to, one might see how they're claiming you stole it from them.

If the land was up for sale and you bought it I wouldn't worry about it too much. However, if it was part of an estate and the estate owner wants to give it back to them he can and there's nothing you can do about it. I'm guessing they didn't pay tier so he put it up for sale. If that's the case he most likely he wont be concerned about them, but you never know.

If you bought mainland then the you will be paying tier to Linden Lab and you don't have to worry at all. It is yours. Rest easy.

But it is still your land. You have no obligation to those people, particularly if they are being so rude about it. If this is the case and you want to a be a super nice guy/doormat about it you could offer to sell it to them for the same price you paid.

No, they are claiming that they didn't get the money. Like I said, it shows on my transaction history, so I definitely paid it. They are claiming that I "stole it", as if to imply that I manipulated the system somehow.

Thank you all for your responses. It is mainland. I just hope they aren't planning to hang around and make life miserable for me. I have been enjoying SL so much, so far.

If it shows in your transaction history and it debited the funds from your wallet you own it.

Maybe ask the sellers if it was group land. That may be the case and I think the money from group land sales pays out nightly. So they just have to wait till LL catches up. I think this may be the case and the sellers just didn't know.

Then they will have to dispute it.

If it's mainland then they'll have to dispute it with Linden Lab and you don't have to worry one bit, I'd just put them on ignore.

If it's part of an estate they can dispute it with the owner of the Sim who can, if he so chooses, yank the land right out from under you at his whim, and give it right back to them. If it is an estate I would very, very politely IM the Sim owner and explain the situation and ask if he would like a copy of the transaction history.

I wouldn't worry about it too much though. Sounds like it is a scam.

Davy,

If the land was group-owned, it takes about a full day for the money to show up. They might not realize this.

LIKELY the case. Those folks will feel like fools in the morning.

Tell them to take it up with LL. The land was transfered to you, and the money for it was taken from you. It's yours. If they didn't receive the money, tell them that their issue is with LL and not with you.

It was owned by a group. I get the feeling that these two are "the group". Thanks again everyone for your help. You have all restored my faith in my fellow human beings. I hope to meet some of you face to face in SL some time soon. Thanks again.

The transaction was "this afternoon"?
If the land was owned by a group, they wouldn't get the money immediately. The funds get distributed to group members in a process run in the wee hours of a SF morning.

Edit: Yup! hundreds of faster typers here

I never knew the group thing. If I was selling the land my partner and I own I'd be damned puzzled as to what happened to the money too. My experience would tell my that it was something to do with LL, before I started attacking someone though.

I wonder if the group has plenty of members, and that 'option' hasn't been changed since the group was started. It's unkind of me to chuckle at that, but I am doing - for their rudeness.

Yup, from my understanding the funds get divided up among the members with 'pay liabilities' set in the group. Those payouts happen sometime during the hours of 12am-6am SL time.Sometimes sooner and sometimes later, it's LL we're talking about.

I did know the group thing, but even if I didn't, I would feel the same way, Bradley. I wouldn't assume the land was stolen. Just way too many nimrods in this game..

I actually purchased some land the other day it debited my account and showed in my trasnaction history and the land did not transfer to me a quick call to LL with the tranasaction number brought a linden to the lot and he transfered it to me after checking hte other account was indeed credited with the funds

so with all the lag going on in sl since the last down time any thing is possable so offer him the transaction number and have him contact LL to sort it as its not really your problem any longer you purchased the land and have the transaction to prove it

Thanks! I did give him the transaction number and the time it was posted. He was not impressed or interested in that. It was at that point that he started repeating, "Where's the money?" and "It's still our parcel until we get the money, so get your stuff off"

Mute and ban sounds like your best friend at this point.

I tend to react to people like that, even though they feel hard done by. For one thing, I wouldn't even mention the group thing. I'd also ban them from the land. But that's me.

Mute, ban.

AR them if they continue to do things to harass you.

------Some additional ideas which should not be attempted by novices------------

Make fun of their dopey wardrobe and uglee hair.

Date their sister.

I'd also suggest that you ring their doorbell and run but they currently they don't have a door.
