OK, first of all I love the forum section. It's been a helpful tool for me in many aspects...from learning how to build, find products, buy land, edit things..etc You name it, I've looked it up in here at some point.

I also think I would maybe post or inquire about a few more things, but out of fear alone I don't. I've seen time and time again a 'moderator' sternly and publicly point out to someone that THIS IS NOT THE RIGHT AREA TO POST YOUR QUESTION! If it has the slightest hint of what the Forum represents, I think it should be warranted, regardless if its the wrong area. You can message them privately or in world and ask them to repost somewhere else where they might get their answer. Quit treating people who want to learn like they are 5 years old and scolding them..we ALL make mistakes dammit.

I check the New Posts every single day because I know we aren't all as perfect as some of the people who run the forum section...so therefore I can see each and every heading of what the post is about, even if its not in the right area. Why not just chill out a bit and stop ruling with such an iron fist...a mistaken post here and there isn't going to kill anyone.

Thank You

Since you have to 'enable' PMs, alot of the time messaging someone in-world is too slow, and you cant contact them on the forums.

Besides, even if someone gets annoyed with you, they cant hurt you so why be afraid?

BTW, THis forum isnt meant for your own personal venting :P

(Meant that in a friendly way)

Umm, where are you getting those messages about what you can post? In the more-specific ones, like textures, or building or classifieds?
In that case, yes, you do need to stick to the intent of those forums.

You could always post your question first here. Lots of information to be had or someone may tell you where else you can get info.

Beyond that, I've not seen a lot of moderator wrist slapping in this forum. I mean, most of the time we just discuss Chris' underwear collection, anyway.

Hi Honey. Long-time advisors in the forums, the kind of people who answer in-depth questions in the content fora day after day, DO sometimes get a little snippy with misclassified postings. I give them slack for that because their advice is SO valuable. In general, I think a little 'chilling' on both sides is in order ... why fear posting because someone might be snippy? What can they do to you?

I do wish that people who are sensitive to brusque phrasing would speak up IMMEDIATELY, either via PM/IM or in the thread, when they think people are being discourteous. The only time you can really change a person's behavior is when you can point to exactly what they've done. Waiting and then posting a general "please change your behavior" thread stands a good chance of not even reaching the person(s) whose posting style you are concernecd about.

I've spoken up myself, nicely, always with good results. One thing for sure: people who ask for threads to be posted in the right place ALWAYS are people who want the forums to be helpful.

Honey, although I understand what you mean (who enjoys being publicly 'shamed' because of a mistake? So uncalled for...) Please don't EVER let one or two abrupt answers stop you from posting. Just as in real life, there is always someone, somewhere who will disagree with you, or just plain misunderstand you. Abrupt doesn't necessarily mean nasty...

Also, don't read too much into being redirected, sometimes it's just a way of helping, so that you can get an answer much more quickly than you'll get in RA... Still, at times, you might get a quicker response here about, say, a technical question than you would elsewhere in the forums.

Again, do NOT stop posting and asking questions. Most people here love being able to help. We just all do it in different ways. Pick the answer that you like and ignore the one you didn't appreciate :)

People are a bit more sensitive about it now because there is no active ResMod and there's a reasonable chance this forum will be shut down if it's not used for what it's supposed to be used for: Resident Answers.

Seriously though...

I'm not kidding on the rare week I make a post, I scan the Topics over and over to see where the appropriate place might be and I almost break into a cold sweat the second I hit the 'submit reply' button in case its the wrong place.

Anyhoooooo, I just needed to let that out cause in the first 5 mins of reading posts today I saw 2 people get reprimanded for incorrect posting places.

I looked at all the threads you started (Title and forum only) and they all seem correct..

As I was told once long ago..

Don't worry so much about it. It's no harm done, someone will just let you know it is better in another section. Don't think someone means to chastise you by doing that. If the post is locked, simply try the suggested forum (:

I don't understand why people think that "This isn't the appropriate place for your post" is inherently 'rude', it's just stating a fact (or opinion, depending).

If it's something that actually belongs in one of the sub-forums it's even helpful since posting in the right place makes it more likely to get a detailed answer rather than a general one.

Also, if the thread wasn't locked (or moved) after the "Not the right place" post (in which case it would has most likely been Strife) it's simply another resident posting, not a moderator.

Underwear? He has underwear? If there is a collection, it is for show only and currently gathering dust. Aside from that leopard g-string he lifted from me of course :D

HA!

Nice to see people are saying it here instead of to me privately, as if I could ever have done anything (OP is not one of the said people).
