From: bilbo99 Emu This goes for me too really. Just Bilbo behind the bar at the place (can we name it yet?) is roleplay for me. My alts even more so. I had a wander round Toxian City as an observer the other night .. not sure what to make of that. Steampunk? I've explored and adored Caledon but in what way is Steampunk RP other than in the building please? We didn't meet anyone Aww, you'll have to catch us on events! Look for dot clusters... Compliment duels, there's Victorian Boxing coming up shortly - the Library, the Voyage to the Center of the Grid... Here's what goes on in Caledon and its neighbours, have about 100 blogs worth (I never counted em...) - we aren't the only micronation out there too - poke around we have many friends! http://caerfyrddin.org/mostlycaledon.htm (thanks for the kind mentions, all!)

I stumbled upon with friends help a Roman themed sim which has roleplaying group. There is a sexual roleplay area but its limited to one area. I don't know whole lot about it but the build is cool. I tried few times to create a explorer themed nonsexual role play group where we out wearing customs and all, then I had this creation based role playing board but it sorted died.

From: 3Ring Binder be a kid. Ran into a cute little girl and her mom at a club one night... got talking to them (in a semi RP sense as I was dressed up as a Snake Woman) and little girl wanted to hug the snake lady... then she bit me! She said she wanted to find out what snake blood tasted like! .... I tell you.. some peoples undead children.... There is good non sex / gor / bdsm RP out there, you just have to look for it.

From: bilbo99 Emu ...Steampunk? I've explored and adored Caledon but in what way is Steampunk RP other than in the building please? We didn't meet anyone I'm not sure about the details of how the Caledonians do it, but Steampunk... - assumes a world with the architectural and clothing styles of the 19th century - assumes a Victorian or neo-Victorian set of manners and mores. - adds to the mix a heavy dash of Jules Verne...implementing a good many "modern" technologies, but with a twist: instead of internal combustion, biochemistry, electronics and quantum physics, everything is powered by steam-age technology. Gears, pistons, boilers and pipes. Airships, not airplanes. In a steampunk world, Sherlock Holmes might battle Moriarty's legion of Frankensteinian constructs. One of the best T-shirts I've seen along these lines bore the legend, "Fools! I Will Destroy You All! (Ask Me How!)"

I guess I shall mention our place.
Imrath Tir in the Sim Solhiemer. At least I think I spelled the Sim name right, hehe, not in SL to check.
It is medieval fantasy in nature and while people role play relationships, sex does not happen ( at least in Sim ).
Various creatures / species. We use the Spell Fire combat meter.
Magic is used.
everyone starts out as a commoner in skills and position in society. If you want to build up, you join a guild.
We are working on a in Sim economy and we have many items where you gather the ingredients then make your item.
bread, potions, foods in general. I think clothing is coming...
Combat does happen but we try to balance it with general role play.
I am not the owner but I help out in the Sim.

Yes, I've already applied to Avilion (waiting..waiting...) Where else is there? okay...at the risk of sounding like a newbie..."where" are you typing roleplay? are you searching for events or groups or places or all of the above? Just curious for my own selfish reason...errrr I'll start another thread on my question...don't want to take this one in a different direction....sorry.

You can use regular google serch terms in Search. Try this ... Rolplay -Gor -Furry -Vampire
That should cut down on the amount of stuff you are not interested in.

My personal experience is that most "normal" RP in SL involves either combat or similar related games, or just in-character chat. There isn't a great deal of storied RP of the kind you do in small groups - or rather, there is, but it still takes place in small groups and isn't publically visible. The sad truth is that a lot of the non-sex RP areas are empty or private. This is because sex is awfully good at encouraging people to get along with each other!!

The Escape from New York sim (inspired by the film) is great fun if you're still looking. Urban RPing as convicts surviving in NYC. Humans only and although not prohibited, sex does not feature strongly at all (and is private when it does) . Highly recommended

The only kind of roleplay with ongoing storylines that I have found in SL so far has been the ones created by me and my private group of roleplaying friends. If you go to an RP sim then of course you can create your own storylines, but you're often constrained by the overall remit of the sim, its guidelines and rules. And there's little that bugs a seasoned roleplayer more than overly-restrictive rules; the obvious ones go without saying, but some of the rules I've encountered in SL RP sims have bordered on the "you do it my way or not at all" from the sim owners.
All well and good if the sim is heavily themed. It would be completely anachronistic to take a cyberpunk av into a medieval-themed sim. But there are still ways around that. For example, dress your cyberpunk av in the clothing appropriate to the sim but perhaps have a Quantum Leap/Dr Who kind of personal storyline in which s/he arrived there somehow and is trying desperately to fit in while figuring how to get back to their own era. You could have a lot of fun with trying to learn the dialect of the time your poor av has landed in, get them mixed up in things with some fun consequences (just don't try it in an RP sim where the regular players are so damn up their own ars-- um... serious that they wouldn't enter into the spirit of your efforts...) So it *is* possible to roleplay a completely different av in a themed sim, as long as you take into consideration everyone around you and the general rules of the sim.
As to where to go, well that all depends on whether you're happy to use meters or not. Personally, I hate meters. I'd rather roleplay all situations than have some text above my head telling me that I need to eat/sleep/fight/poop/whatever. But that's just me. I come from a MUSH background, so I'm more into heavily text-based descriptive RP anyway. It's a joy to find other roleplayers who love writing detailed poses like I do, and it's draining to find roleplayers whose profiles state that if you write a book in reply to them, they hate you and will never RP with you again (yeah, those people do exist; I've seen their profiles...)
One thing of note, and that is that many of the roleplayers in Second Life consider themselves not to be *roleplaying* but instead to be *lifestyling*. That's a whole 'nother kettle of fish...

From: Tod69 Talamasca Meh. I'm 'old school' when it comes to Role Play. It must involve dice and pencils & character sheets and lots of beer/mountain dew. LOL! Got my fiancee to try old D&D and she didnt know what to do! Too much freedom!! Heh! Kinda like some people's reaction to SL!! Check out Crimoson in the Baji Sim. They are a NWOD Sim with characters sheets, dice, and experience points , vampires, changlings, lycans, oh my. A lot of good RPers if you like RP based on a white wolf's gaming system and a place with a good storyline.

Far too many roleplaying sims are created by groups of friends who had been happily roleplaying together and then decided to allow the public in as a source of "extras" for their play.
