I have 10 or 15 people on my friends list...I like to keep it trimmed down. Three of them are people I talk to regularly, a couple are business related and two are my alts. No relationship, I'm not a romancer at all so I don't even try. I heard about SL from a friend and my sister, and saw it on the news a couple times. After hearing about it so much I finally tried it. Addicted now. The main things I do online are building, texturing, exploring and I have a real bad addiction to buying land. I've only had one job in SL and it lasted about an hour. I got an offer one time to be a dancer which is absolutely not my thing, but I thought a job might be cool since I had been spending so much buying lindens. When I realized I had been doing this job for one hour and had made 200 lindens which was the equivalent of less than a real buck, I quit and went directly to some building classes. That gave me something to do and also inspired me to blow the dust off of my Photoshop 7 and install it on my newer computer. I was rusty in my Photoshopping but I got back into it really quick and ended up opening a store after a few months of creating things and now I have a hobby that supports itself.

From: Totus Brim About yourself in SL. From: someone Ok, I have 5 friends. Two of them I mainly hang out with, the others not so much as i used to, but I see them from time to time. About 250 or so. There's a core group of about 10-20 or so, though I do try to keep in cotact with most of their regularly. From: someone I dont have any job and im not in any relationship. Jobs: - Greeter: Inner Child Depot - Store Owner, You Know, For Kids! - Store Owner, The Plant Stand - General assistance, Livingtree - Content Creator, The Magicians Relationship: - Daughter to Sazzy Rosebud and Laurynce Book - Sister to Pygar Bu and Robin Howe - Neice and cousin to several From: someone I got into sl by stumbling by the website. I was searching "second sight" and on the search one of the websites was second life. I looked at it and joined. Not counting seeing information about the initial beta ages ago (it wasn't mac friendly then, so I did not bother). A couple of my friends were here, so I checked it out in early 2006. After seeing it was mac compatible and free, I joined. From: someone I just mainly go around exploring, but not on sl much I'm often on.

I've met tons of people.. Most of which when I was new to SL.. I've since ceased to hear from any of them, even those that claimed they would never leave.. I have 'loved' a few, but never talk to them either.
Right now.. I have people on my Contacts, mostly old employees that I'll be removing likely tomorrow night. So, in short, I have no one right now. It's rather lonely, especially considering by the time I get home from work, there is nothing else to do than sit online and 'enjoy' the silence..
It isn't easy meeting people.. At least not for me..
I've held a few Dancer jobs, and am currently employed as the Owner of The Sakura Lounge. Brand new, and rather empty =x Oh well, things take time.

it's funny to see that many relate friends list as only a FRIENDS list instead of contact list, that's how you ppl should look at it, a contact list (as a complement to what I wrote above: my list has lots of folders and subfolders, outside I keep only a small group of 8 or 10, everyone else is kept on the right folder: models, designers, landlords, clubs, builders, clients, acquaintances etc etc, and everyone has the notes tab fileld heheh I know, i'm very organized, too much in fact lol)

I have a handful of people on my friends list who are capital F friends, and a larger group of people who I have no idea who they are or why they are there. I'd actually like to expand the list for actual friends - people from here are always welcome on my list. I've just never figured out the protocol for sending an invite. Honestly, I can't figure out when is the right time to do it. So, I end up waiting for people to send me one, which, I admit, is a silly way to do things.

From: Smoke Gordonstone You can make folders in the friends list?
Edit: Excuse me, Contact List. Noes... But you can in your Calling Cards folder. (^_^) My friends list.... I lose count after I run out of fingers... So, my friends list is more than 10, I know that much. There are really about five that I truly consider friends, I'm smitten with one, and I'm quite angry at another at the moment. The remainder are people that I greatly appreciate, but don't see as often. Usually, with the right amount of time, trust, and respect; I turn on map permissions for them and visit or ask them to visit as often as possible. (^_^) Job? Noes, Noes, Noes! I'm here for teh playtime. Maybe, just maybe I'll take on a teaching position. But, I'm not so deep in need for monies to want to limit my experience by putting myself on any kind of schedule. (=_=) Relationship? I'm kinda in a bit of a one-sided infatuation with one of my closest friends. I didn't expect it to happen, nor was I after any kind of closeness in SL. But, heh, I guess I can't predict my own reaction to people's personalities. We have a ton of fun and get along well. It's just me and my infatuation that jumps around and ruins things once in a while. Still... It's all in good fun. (^_^)y

Up until one disastrous week when I went totally emotard and wiped my friends list, I never ever offered friendship. At the end of that week, my closest friend pulled me back out of the pit I dug for myself and I did a big, mad-rush re-friending of all the ones I dumped and added a few more. I never felt so appreciated in my life as the acceptances started rolling in and the "where have you been?" IMs followed just as quickly. Happy cry! \(T_T)/ Now, I'm becoming a bit more open. If I have a few random encounters with someone and wind up having fun chats, I'll offer. I'm still on a steady 3 to 4 offers coming my way per week anyway. (^_^)y

Nice thread for ppl to learn about each other. My friends list, I keep it small but I do like to frequent some places I know regulars are and so enjoy there friendship. Even if you are not on my list and I know you I will drop a hello here and there to say hi. Job nah I have enough irl. Although I may be open to something I would enjoy doing in SL and $L would be a side benefit. Relationship, hmm I am for a very long time that amazes me. Right off the the bat from starting SL wouldn't change a thing. Why see my sig! I love to explore see well built things and waterfalls will forever be close to my heart. oh shopping of course and changing my land too many times to count.

A friend brought me to SL.. whisked me off shopping to buy a nice skin and some clothes... then off to club hopping. That was my first experience in SL.
I have no idea how many friends are on my list at the moment. I cull it down every month or two. The large majority are business associates, but I do have a few friends.
My first real job in SL was as a DJ at two weeks old. I've done that off and on my entire SL life. Currently a Senior DJ for Sexy Talk Radio in the Bad Girls Dance Club.. one of SLs oldest on the grid.
I began building about a month after birth. I started out slow, just selling on SLX and what was SLBoutique (now OnRez). Opened my first small shop in a mall for a club where I was the manager. We have grown to a 1/4 SIM Main store now and have given up all satellite stores. I make a bit of a profit after expenses every month.
My SL partner is my RL husband. We started SL as individuals until my husband started losing his mind over all the women.. and the drama they would create. He's used to dealing my head-on, in your face style and had no experience with those games. He asked me to bail him out so I proposed and we got married in SL as well. Much simpler for us that way.

Hellz NO! I volunteer my time here and there, and I wouldn't mind doing something productive, but I definitely don't want to be tied down and in a position where I have to do something. I'm here to play. I have a job in RL.

Mari Very true. And, I was aware of the scale of your friends list already at the time. I'm sure you can only imagine how I felt the moment I got that IM. I gotta let you know, I appreciated that a lot. It really was the medicine I needed for the time I was going through. (^_^)y

Interesting post...
I have around 30 friends...however only about 10 of them are really people I can IM at any time and shoot the breeze with.
I run Glowbox Designs--a design firm specializing in all aspects of 3D content creation and graphic design. Although I do all kinds of building, design and graphics, my company specializes in film, photography and studio gear.
My SL partner is also my RL fiancee. We are both actors, and met on a RL film set. She is in SL because of me, but she stays because she loves it here.
Cheers.

'sfunny, cuz from what I'm readin in dis thread, I've got a lot more names on my list than a lotta people. But most of the names on my list are people who I've built at least some friendship with. I'm not typically a "friend people out of the blue" sorta person, an even often refuse when people I dunno ask to friend me.

Friends, a nice little group that I call friends who I hang out with and have fun with and flirt with and tease and shop and dance. Friends list? Loads, don't care, I accept most friend requests but it's like handing out email addresses, most never contact again so I just delete those I don't remember but I keep a couple of those I haven't heard from in months but long for their return Jobs? I model kinky fetish clothes (yeah I bet that's a surprise!) and sell land. Relationship? Sure, they last between 10 minutes and a couple of hours with varying degrees of irregularity. /me slaps head "Ohhhh!, you didn't mean *those* relationships?

I can't think of anyone better suited to introduce people to the sheer FUN of Second Life than you. Thank you, Lindal. I might as well cop to it. The group is right there in my profile. Being a Mentor has been a lot of fun. I understand there have been some drama issues in the group, but I figure I can just ignore them and do my thing. I've been one of the loudest complainers about how unnecessarily tough it is on newborns, so I figured I ought to at least try to improve the situation for some of them. Besides, they say things that make me laugh. I got called a terrorist yesterday because I have a somewhat dark skin and long hair, so I must be an "araback terrorist ikickyourass". Yep. Trout Recreant - Taliban operative. "You, Mentor. Tell me how to hula or I shoot you with my popgun!" Was also a classic. Not even a "please"! Kids these days... That and the general 5 minute old avatars running around saying, "you have pretty avatar make sexxies?" to each other. It kills me every time. My response when I hear that is always, "Before you teo lovebirds go make sexxies, you might want to take a quick look in your boxer shorts. One of you is probably missing a very important piece of the puzzle."

lol. No. I don't even carry a cell phone in RL if I can help it. I hate that thing. I did have a big black bowling ball in one hand with a lit fuse sticking out the top and the words "ACME BOMB" stenciled on it.
