Hello everyone I am a brand new resident in SecondLife. I just joined the game today. I like what I have seen so far and I have met some very nice people. I do however have a few questions: 1.I read that one sell things in SL. So my question is as follow. Is it possible to sell real life things(like CDs) or real life files(like MP3 files) for L$.And then is it possible to exchange those L$ for real US dollars? 2.I am a classical pianist and I thought it would be nice if my next recital was broadcast live or something in SL.Is that possible? Is it allowed for performers to charge residents a small fee for attending the performance(like tickets in real life)? 3.In talking to a mentor today,I got told that romantic/sexual relations are possible and allowed. What are the exact policies about this? is there also marriage/divorce? 4.Is any type of business allowed to open? 5.I read that SL has communities/clubs/guilds.Is there any page that lists those? Thank you for your time Looking forward to meeting you all and looking forward to my SecondLife

Welcome Avguste, Wow that is a lot to answer - I'll take number 1. Yes some artists already does this via an external website. The person pays L$ inworld from a vendor and they get a code so they can access the MP3 files and/or enter address details for sending the CD. L$ can be cashed out for USD

2) Yes live performances can be done by recording directly into your computer and turning that into a shoutcast stream and exposing that stream via the internet so that any SL land may be set to use it. Then many people can listen to what you are recording.

3) Almost anything is allowed - only thing banned atm is sex with a child avatar. Almost every other type of conceivable sexual habit/relationship is allowed in SL to date. SL has partnering also which is a Linden sanctioned "marriage" however there are no rules really - you pay L$25 (I think) to offer partnership to another - if they accept it shows in your profile who you are partnered to and if/when either party want to unpartner - another fee is payable and the partnership is broken. The info is then removed from your profile. There are no legal obligations when unpartnering.

Yes if you manage to setup your computer to record what you are performing, convert it via a shoutcast encoder and broadcast it to the internet just like any other internet radio. Your avatar would be logged in and sat or stood at a venue whilst you were performing in RL. It is easier for piano players and such due to being able to operate the computer as well as playing in RL as most SL crowds will expect some interaction with them. Thanking them for their applause, tips, taking requests, etc.

Well, the Liverpool Philharmonic orchestra played here last year, but they obviously managed to get some special help. There are live performances here.

4) Most types of businesses are allowed. The only ones prohibited to my mind are casinos and banks (unless you get an RL banking license) .

5) This no single place to get info about clubs etc. However inworld search will cover the majority of them. Other places are SL related websites and SL related news publications.

I am not active in the live music scene in SL, so I will defer to others on that. I can point you to a forum devoted to music in SL though: http://slmc.myfastforum.org/3) About anything you can imagine is out there. Age play (sexual situations involving child avatars) is the only thing I can think of that isn't allowed. Marriage is possible through official "partnering" and holding weddings to celebrate is a popular thing to do. Many of these partnerships disolve so that would be divorce, though the assets of the accounts are not officially mingled when people partner. 4) as for buisnesses, almost anything you can think of would be allowed I believe. 5) One way to find "communities" is to look under the group tab in search. You should begin to find groups of likeminded people for about any interest that way. Welcome!!!! SO glad you found the forums so early in your time here. They are a great resource.

Well,I will be performing the recital at Texas Christian University and I am sure I could get the needed setup to have the performance stream live to Second Life. However I will probably not be able to take any requests and the likes

They do exist.

"Hey man, can you give us a little of Haydn's Sonata in C# minor, Op. 30, Hoboken 16/36?" Not sure how that would work. I'm all for more classical music in SL. Count me in. I'd buy tickets, or feed the tip jar. Besides, I need a reason to break out the suit and tie I never wear.

Live music is pretty popular.
A classical piano concert would make a pretty night out for sure.

Though now you mention the idea it would certainly be entertaining to see

I think that was one of Liberace's most under rated works, from the Album....."Hayden in Hoboken." I agree that I don't think TCU would be too keen on simulcasting, but what are you planning to play?

Like I said,I don't think TCU would care and any case, they would have nothing to say about it as it is my recital. As far as what I am playing, currently what I have available and which I am planning to sell in SL for L$ can be seen at http://avgusteantonov.com/products.html (look at the first two CDs)

I am currently working on figuring the exchange rate and I will post soon some info The exchange rate varies/fluctuates depending on the market, but I usually get a close approximation when using 267 L = 1 US (at least from my experience)

In addition, since this is my last semester there and I am officially graduating in May,there is not much they can do unless I break any rules. And last I checked, doing what I suggest is not breaking the rules. But again,I will check with them when I come back from break. My other concern is equipment to transmit that.Thank god we have a teacher who is good at streaming things Thanks for the exchange rate Markubis
