Where Have All the Griefers Gone?

I started a hiatus from SL about 6months or so ago. I use to hear talk about griefer attacks. Since I've been back recently I believe I heard of an attack only once.

What's going on? Are they hiding and planning their next big attack? Did those kids finally grew up a little? Have they become so frequent that it's barely talked about anymore?

I hope my post here doesn't jinx anything.

I hope it DOES jinx something. True griefing only disrupts things others build.

Not counting things that fall more into prank mode.

My land was griefed and it was not fun.

You won't hear as much, because the grid is HUGE. At this point, there is a pretty good chance that none of us will have land where there's a griefer attacking going down.

Well, it's either that or the griefers have finally realized that they can't top LL in griefing their fellow users....

Feel free to come to the Solace Beach sandbox - we have to boot griefers on a regular basis. You can get your fill of being caged, shot at, smoke bombed, and pounded with self-replicating physical torii whenever you like. :/

No thanks. I can just drive into South LA if I wanted that experience.

If it would make you feel better, I can drop a few lolcubes on your store.

Just let me know when you do. I'll call several friends and we'll sit on some of my loungers and enjoy the show.

If you're really that desperate, try one of the Linden owned hellhol... err, sandboxes. Likely Sandbox Island and it's extension.

Eh, it's still happening (at least 'til school goes back in session). It just doesn't do a whole lot like it used to. I suspect most are pretty bored of lolcubes and stuff.

There's, uh, probably a lot of things you didn't know about lindens. Another, another interesting, uh, lindenism, uh, there are only three jobs available to a linden. The first is making shoes at night while, you know, while the old cobbler sleeps. You can bake cookies in a tree. But the third job, some call it, uh, "the show" or "the big dance," it's the profession that every linden aspires to.

Griefing just doesn't bring down the entire grid now like the Grey Goo stuff used to do in 2006 or so, so I guess a lot of it goes un-noticed by most residents. It still happens though. I was at a party on Sunday that was targeted and it brought the sim down for half an hour. Only people who were there would have noticed.

I expect furry sims get griefed all the time, as do welcome areas and Help Island Public.

I wasn't thinking about welcome areas or Help Island. You're right, but I guess I was thinking of something bigger than that. I can handle being caged and shot into space. The one time it happened to me I just laughed.

I was thinking Lolcubes is one and the other one is the dancing penises that cause an effect across the entire sim(s)

I quit going to my favorite sandbox because someone there thought it hilarious to make everyone on the sim 'bounce.'

I enjoy taunting griefers.

I've only been around 5 or 6 griefer attacks in my time but I enjoyed them all!

Well the griefing attack I witnessed on Sunday was pretty much a lolcube thing (except they were howling zombies) and it DID bring the sim down at least three times in half an hour. Easily fixed when the estate manager was finally able to log in, turn off scripts and ban the culprit.

I think Linden Labs also have technical things in place server-side to stop the viral domino effect that used to bring down the whole grid. So it still happens but on a much smaller scale than before.

And, I expect, that because its no longer possible to bring down the whole grid, there's no lulz in it any more.

As a manager of 24 different popular furry sims I can say, yes griefing has died.

At least creative griefing. Some guy coming by spamming jibberish over mic does not count.

That's more what I was thinking of. I guess it still happens, I just hope it continues to be not as often.
