Yeah, you and me both. People say a render is a still image. I wouldn't have known that were it not for the many threads, blog posts etc that are going on.
The commercial vs non-commercial as I am understanding it is that the render can be used to advertise something. Not that it can be put out as a skin and sold in SL. Again, not something I would have known were it not for the threads, etc.

Interesting, I'm not sure I buy the attempt to limit the definition to a "still image", that seems alike a real stretch. But when it gets right down to it, SL is a 3D graphic software that renders 2D images on a computer screen, one frame or one "still image" at a time. It simply displays one frame after another with a variable point of view.

Daz and Poser do very much the same thing.

Yes, I have seen that in rebuttle on I think it was SLU.

Again, the thing people say is Danae knows what her own copyright rules are. That is well and good, but that does not mean everyone that reads the terms will get that same idea.

They say Rendorosity and people like Danae need to update terms to reflect Second Life and products like it. That would be fine, but only going forward imho. Looking back on this who is to say Minnu did this intentionaly? No one can say that for sure.

'Vendetta' or not, as I could care less about personal dramas, the proof is in the pics that the real creator has shown and speak for themselves. Comments like yours make me laugh because it seems like people like you want to 'kill the messenger' and cry 'zomg drama' cuz so and so doesn't like so and so, instead of looking at the proof. The real creator on Renderosity obviously didn't want her items to be used in the way they were in SL and has nothing to do with anyones personal views. As far as Eloh's skin base, those were provided to SLers to be able to mod and sell under certain rules, no secret there and people shouldn't be criticized for it as that is what the creator intended. The only person who destroyed herself and the trust others had for her is the one in SL who copied the real artists work and proclaimed it her own.

What I find extremely ironic is that the accused in this situation was a crusader for content creators and voiced strong views on theft. People should practice what they preach.

It has to be proven first, but the creator's reputation is already tarnished so badly because its appeared on various blogs and forums and even a message last night into the FashCon group (7000 members). TV herself introduced an article ont her blog as well as SL Herald (She works for) and opening up a thread on SL Universe forums. If that wasn't part of her own vendetta, i'm not sure what is.

Shouldn't the right course of action have been to but the 2 parties in touch with one another, so that they could sort it amongst themselves. "Innocent until proven guilty?

On a separate note, I wonder how many other skins from famous brands have been sourced from Rendosity.com over the years.

I said this on the SLU thread and I'll say it again here. I think the only right thing to do would have been to wait until there was some sort of resolution to report it, or to report it with as much objectivity as possible. To report it based on an assumption of guilt just isn't fair.

Excellent point about Engligh possibly being a second language and that making it more likely that someone might not understand the nuances of the license agreement. I hadn't considered that.

Yet that's usually what ends up happening when alleged copying happens in-world.

How many people argued for the innocence of the person Stroker took to court? Was there anyone who argued that while the recent wave of skin theft certainly looked like they were "stolen" people should be given the benefit of the doubt?

If this had been about one skin creator allegedly copying another's work, with the same visual comparison between two skins,, it would have been a "done deal" already as far as everyone was concerned and the only complaining would have been about why it takes LL so long to act on the DMCA.

I do see a certain double standard when it comes to in-world alleged theft (guilty by default) and an in-world "creator" allegedly infringing on out-of-world work (innocent by default). (I'm not implying that *you* specifically have that difference, but I do get the impression some people do)

Everyone should be subject to the same amount of scrutiny given the same set of circumstances, regardless of reputation or in-world vs "out-world".

(Edited to add that neither "guilty by default" and "innocent by default" is really the "right" way to go, but it would be nice if people were at least consistant)

She made another besides the "golly, gee I did use Danae's sources" statement?

Or is that the third?

Yes, and there is already a thread about that one, as you already know since you posted in it. Why resuscitate this thread?

Very good question seeing as it died on the 12th of May and there is/was already a thread about Minnu's "final statement" on the front page.

Could it be to keep the mindless dramaz going? Noooo not at all. *rolls eyes*
