Ahhhh, journalistc integrity; thy name is Second Life Herald.

Thank God they don't feel the need to sully their elevated minds with anything so sordid as evidence.

@ Brendan...hehe be careful how you tread here on the SL-forum. I suggest editing the comment to just a link ;)

Anyhow...her customers are waiting patiently to hear from her in regards to this...either way, all I did to prove it to myself was overlay the eyebrows of the rendorsity skin and Minnu's skin...and they match hair to hair. Grab a demo skin from her store, and do the whole compare contrast overlay thing in Photoshop, and you can make your own judgement call.

Actually, the original story was first reported on Shoppingcartdisco.com, you might want to get some popcorn, soda...nice comfy chair and sit back and read the almost 300 comments posted on this. Crazehhh!

I just see the exact same thing when I look at the pictures, except one is a bit brighter.

@Vanya, I changed the link before you posted since I found out that was the Original story. Not to found of the Herald since it really isn't more of a news site then a gossip magazine.

Well that sucks.

I actually antagonized over buying skins from MM because they were so expensive, but finally decided to grab a few. Now, my hesitation over paying that much for skin seems well justified. I had looked at renderosity a while ago to see if there was any way to 'learn' about creating skins from that site. But I gave up......knowing full well that copying anything is out of the question and I'm just not good enough to create my own. So......I buy from others.........now only to find out they are stealing. Definitely pisses me off. I'm sure I could figure out how to reproduce skins like that too.....but no way would I steal like that and pass it off as my own. That's really underhanded and I hope it catches up to the folks who do it.

It's really going to have to be up to the original creators of these skins to act on this type of theft though......I can't imagine LL could really get involved with all the different types of texture copying going on out there. They truely would need a legal staff devoted entirely to legal issues like this........and not many companies I know of have that kind of time, staff or funding.

But, would be quite the undertaking for an ambitious lawyer with a particular interest in web issues like this.

makes no sense why anyone would steal a skin.

especially with eloh's skins available as psd files that anyone can use and she is ok with ppl using them and selling the results (she states it on her blog)

*shrug*

Plus no mention of the license by which the skins were originally sold.

Or consideration fo which skin came first... I've seen sl products ripped and sold into other venues

i'm not convinced, its known fact that TV has huge issues with Minnu Palen.
Even if they were sourced from Rendosity, arent' a lot of skins sourced from there?
Nearly every 2nd new creator that launches skins and advertises it on FashCon group are adapting Eloh Eliott PSD files including TV herself.

It has yet to be proven that they just didn't use photos from the same source. There is a thread right now in the gallery where Chip Midnight and Namssor Daguerre are discussing how they are working on their own respective skins but using the same photo source. It happens quite often. I'm afraid the proof here so far is lacking.

One thing that isn't mentioned in the blog post is whether the licensing agreement that comes with the purchase of the skin from merchant at Renderosity allows or disallows a purchaser of the Renderosity skin to use it as part of creating another skin for sale.

Some licenses do allow such use. Some don't. Some are vague. I don't know if Renderosity has a standard license that comes with all such products, or if the merchants write their own licenses.

A quote from the license that accompanied the Renderosity-brokered skin would help clarify the complaint.

The creator from Renderosity has said that her skins are pieced together from numerous sources, including personal photos, and the eyebrows are actually a combination of hers and her husband's. Given those variables, it seems unlikely that anyone else could come up such a similar skin purely under his or her own power. Also, the SL creator is apparently not being cooperative about proving she developed the skins herself to the Renderosity creator, and making less than believable excuses as to why she cannot.

I can't be 100% sure, but it seems fairly likely that these skins have been misused and misrepresented in SL.

Edit: @ Amity

There is quite a lot of discussion about the license in the comments of the Shopping Cart Disco blog post. The Renderosity creator's stance seems to be that her work is only to be used in still images (renders), such as on a website or in advertising. Importing it into SL is a violation of that.

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

It is a site where graphic artists make skins for use with Poser. LOTS of talented people there and you can buy packs of texture files that can be used for scenes, ads, etc used with Poser.

Does the license specifically limit the use at the time they were purchased? If it okays commercial use of said skins, but doesn't specify a limited use of them...

I'm guessing then from Poser she ripped the textures and converted them into a Second Life format, uploaded them and placed them onto a skin then.

That is pretty much the accusation.

Wouldn't it require some amount of work then, assuming Poser doesn't use the same texturing for Polygons on human models as Second Life does.
