And I have the pics

Oh.. there were no picts of what we saw. We were too distracted or as Joe would say, too polite, to document the occasion.

Unlike what Brenda said. I think what I say is VERY important in the grand scheme of things. ![]() That was kinda harsh........ Please tell me ONE part of you is the same.........*you know of which I speak* _____________________

I have a tendency to say what I think whenever I think it. In RL I've been told that I come across quite harsh at times, as I seldom ever try to 'add perfume to the pig' so to speak. On the forums and inworld, people don't know me quite as well - therefore I try to moderate myself a bit so that people don't misunderstand my lack of tact.
I am mostly the same here as inworld, though I think I probably am more relaxed there. That is part of what SL is for me - a place to unwind and relax and have more fun. _____________________

It's hard to say. I've never really felt that anyone has jumped down my throat in these forums.
I don't post a lot, but it's not becasue of fear. It's because I try not to post unless I actually have a valid question or something to contribute. There have been more threads I started to reply to, and then changed my mind because I wasn't really contributing much of anything, than threads I've responded to. As to how I act here as opposed to in world, believe it or not, I communicate MORE here. I have a hard time getting past "hello," in world for some reason. I have not quite figured out the reason for this. Maybe I'm intimidated by all the beautiful people walking around. I know -- that's crazy. I must instinctively take things at face value. But that's a whole 'nother research dissertation the questionnaire hounds haven't even looked into yet. I enjoy almost all the threads here, on topic or otherwise. I hope I've never jumped down anyone's throat -- unless they orbited me for no reason in world. |

Everyone has always been pretty nice to me here. (Or if they are slamming me they're being too subtle.)
The only time I've felt a lot of disagreement with what I said it was about something that I could never back down from no matter what. No one likes to feel either attacked or misunderstood. I try to avoid causing anyone else to feel that way and not to attract it to myself either. But when it does happen to me I'm pretty good about getting over it fast. _____________________

Just some random observations: The annonymity of the Internet can make people cast aside some of the niceities of face to face interaction, some people are more aggressive behind their keyboard. Plus there are cultural differences at play as well. What is considered humor in one country may not be in another. But also we are in a time where, in my opinion we are just too gaoddamned sensitive. political correctness is forced down our throats more every day. a new entitlement is being born, the right to not be offended.
Children are being raised in a manner that attempts to shield them from any negative influences, which is laudable I guess, but impractical. School Systems are doing away with the term "Failing Grade", sports leagues don't keep score, so there will be no losers, dodgeball games are banned so as to not have kids feel they are being picked on. I heard a comedian say he loves watching American Idle because he likes seeing Simon tear into people. He said "We've raised an entire generation who haven't been allowed to fail at anything, and it's good to see someone tell them for the first time in their lives, You Suck." Humans can't thrive without adversity to overcome. The world is a hard place, but you have to face it if you want to come up from the basement. _____________________

Many people are raising their children as little princes and princesses. They are totally unprepared when it comes to 'real life'. I have to say that I am probably much harsher and less patient in RL than I am in SL and on the forums. Maybe because I was always taught that the written word is harder to take back, so I tend to watch what I say more. |

I lurk until I find something I can contribute to, or maybe when I’m compelled to attempt levity, or just pissed by some comment. Some here though feel it necessary to post in every single thread, even if their comments are self serving, or even trolling and they are the people who most probably intimidate so many others from participating. Seems that I see more thread hi-jacking now too and am amazed that some simple question can turn into a thread with hundreds of responses and useless comments that do nothing other then propel an off topic even more off topic. This is most probably the result of not having a true General Discussion forum here, turning any post into a free for all. Also there are those who practice post padding, because they believe that a high post count reflects…hell I have no idea what they think Maybe they feel the need to overcompensate.

I completely agree with this. Many people are raising their children as little princes and princesses. They are totally unprepared when it comes to 'real life'. You should see what it's like in Beverly Hill's where I use to work. The problem is even worse there because they know they will never have to deal with 'real life', so why prepare for it. _____________________

Believe me, Post Counts are absolutely worthless. I wish they could be turned off. I don't see any reason why they are there. I think post counts are fun but nothing more. I'm surprised by the comments made today about people wanting to increase their post count to look important. I'm not sure I buy that. At least as a general rule. I'm embarrassed by mine actually. _____________________

Post counts in this forum aren't really anything - Its just a number that reflects how masochistic you are with regards to the subject of Second Life. |

I'm the same on the forums as in SL as on IRC as in EQ as in SWG as in RL.
The medium and/or avatars may change, but I'm always "me." However, in times past, I would hold back from posting sometimes due to not wanting to have people jump down my throat...but not anymore. /me feels thicker skin growing ![]() _____________________

I will answer this because i think it is important. When I have asked questions in order to get information, i have been slammed both for the question (saying duh that was a stupid question) and also personally when people here do not know me or my motivations. I am a pretty easy going, nice, cooperative person, but when i come into a forum that is named "resident questions" in order to get some factual input and get full out bashed...not worth my time or aggrevation to post another question. I was pretty shocked at how pointed, terse and belligerent some of the posts were to me personally. And i also see how others are treated here and am quite certain there are many others who would never ask anything because of what they see here. For example, posting complaints that the answers are in a previous thread and a link are not helpful when links are two years old...the person asking is prob looking for current info. Telling people that they prob deserve to get warnings and suspensions is not helpful when they are here asking questions and trying to understand the "rules" - not the wording in the TOS, but actually looking to gain the perspective of others. I think if folks here are serious about wanting to help, then they need to just help...not be sarcastic or make snap judgements on the OP. Telling people over and over that their questions are not for this forum is not helpful if you dont also try to help...maybe they actually DID look all over and just thought this was the most appropriate spot. I think if more of the folks who frequent this forum would assume a "seek first to understand" stance rather than a combative and belittling one, more folks would feel like this was a good place to post a question more than once....just my two cents...and for the record, i have been in forums, chat rooms, internet, etc etc etc for many many years...so this is not a new entity for me. As always thanks for listening...jojo

Maybe your questions have been misunderstood in the past? No, I didn't go see your prior posts, just trying to find out why _everyone_ was unhelpful to you. Misunderstandings can happen in the best places. There is someone (Millie) moderating at the moment, more so than the recent past. Although I can't agree with you that most people here are nasty, don't stop asking questions or posting. |

isabeau...in no way am i saying "everyone" or "all" people are anything...but i am relating my perspective and experience here...just my two cents...smile. And i did not say that "everyone" or "most" were nasty...just that if MORE people who respond are helpful that would be a good thing....thanks! jojo
