Wrong Tier Fee?

Okay I am very confused. I thought I had the use fees all figured out.

I bought 1024m on a premium account. Should put me at $5 a month use fees.

Yet, on the site it says my use fees are $8 a month....




Would donating to a group somehow raise the use fees? I don't understand this. I guess I'm glad I only bought the 3 month account instead of the year.

How is your tier set up? Is it part of a group? Is it directly owned by you? Are you sure you don't have any tier donated to any other group? Did you ever at any point in the last month own more then 1024?

This is my first land purchase.

I had originally planned to donate to my own group, but it is all currently owned by me. I guess I will need to check the other groups I am in to see if they have donated land.

So, could that be the problem? If another group I am in has donated land, does that mean that all the group members use fees go up????

no, but if you donate tier to a group, even your own group, then you have that much less land to use personally.
$8 is the charge for owning even 1/m2 above 1024.

Yep. Check your "My land" page on the website or in the World tab in SL. It appears you forgot about another 512 you purchased.

I am still very new to SL, this was my one and only purchase. I will explain everything step by step. Maybe you can see where I errored.


1.) I bought one 512m plot
2.) I bought another 512m plot next to the first one.
3.) I joined the land
4.) I donated 512m to my group


This is when I noticed that my use fees were set at $8 monthly I then,

5.) took the donated land from the group (thinking that may be the reason)
6.) I know hold 1024m under my name only. no more no less, and none donated.

Donated land does not show up in "My Land". Check group land to find the extra 512. Click on the group that you made the donation to. You should see your 512 on the list of land for that group.

did u deed the land to the group once u donated land to the group?

if not, it would explain why u are billed extra as u had land under ur name and not deeded to group and had land donated to group at the same time
setting group on the land doesn`t actually give it to the group but allows group members some rights and not counted on the group land donation

4) is where you went wrong.

Donating that 512 to your own or any group has the same effect as buying that area of land.

Your first 512 was free of tier.
Your second 512 put you into the US$5 tier level
You then increased your tier by donating 512 to a group.
So now your are at the 8$ tier level.

Removing the donation does not affect the tier level until after your next billing cycle.
You are charged based on the hightest tier level that you got to during the month,

You might try asking LL billing to consider your mistake and reduce the tier.

Okay I don't get that. There is no land donated to any group currently. when I go to use fees on the website to calculate my fees it says $5 a month. But under "my account" info it says $8.

So donating to a group increases my tier levels?

Tier is based on your peak holdings for the period. Your peak was 1536, so you pay for that even though you now only have 1024.

(yes, when you donated 512 tier to a group, you needed 512 extra to do that, so your tier level was increased)

What Sling said. To fix it now, you must deed the land to the group and remove the tier contribution on the website in your account so that you are not billed for 1536 a second time.

This is precisely the problem. As was said earlier, contributing tier is just like buying land, for billing purposes. You have no group-owned (deeded) land. You have 1024 of personally owned land, plus a donation to a group that is separate from your personal holdings.

Ideally, you should: have contribution at 512. Deed the entire 1024 to the group. Buy 102 more square meters, or as close as you can get to that.

I think that at this stage the OP has fixed the cause of the problem. The donation of 512 has been withdrawn, so we are back to 1024 of land owned, and no donations.
Next month the tier level will automatically drop to the US$5 level.

I wouldn't donate the land to the group at this stage, as there is no usable benefit from the 10% extra land (102 metres) the group could own without further donations.
Having the group owning the land only causes potential complications for things like radio and TV tuners that need to belong to the land owner.

Keep it simple!

But:
If the 1024 was deeded, the group could buy a few ad plots with the 102 metres and plant trees, a nice bench, or whatever.

cristalle, deed your land to your group (assuming youre the owner), then after doing that donate your 1024 to the group. then while wearing the group tag go find a few (up to 6 to keep within tier) $150 adplots on the sim and 'buy for group' to increase your prim allowance.

I think she can get 96 meters out of it. That's 6 ad space/16m plots. If they aren't too expensive, that's 18 extra prims the group can own!

I just don't get the part about me previously having 1536m. I have only ever had 1024. The game was counting the same plot TWICE when I donated to the group. So I still don't see how donating can possibly increase the amount of land you own. They should fix this, if there is a physical amount of land = 1024.... 1024m is what you should be billled at - 512m bonus.


Seems like a way for LL to take a little extra here and there each month when new people are trying to figure out how things work. Makes no sense for me to pay a higher fee for one month for owning the same land TWICE for like 15 minutes.

At this the land is a 1,024m block. Unless you split it again, you can't *deed* just half of it to the group.

4.) I donated 512m to my group

What you donated to the group was not land, but tier. The 1,024 block was still under your name, requiring 1024m of tier. But *donating* 512m of tier to the group, you increased your tier requirements to 1536
