Well i certainly had a very strange night tonight i had this woman contact me out of the blue, it started of quite pleasant then all off a sudden she starts going on and on and on about how Gor is bad and how it's something too do with Hitlars Mein Kampf whatever that means, then she was saying how being a participent makes me a bad rolemodel for Woman everywhere just because i enjoy it.

I just found all this very strange so if anyone who participates in Gor in you ever get contacted by someone like this i would just ignore her she is probally gonna do the same too you.

I have also muted her i would suggest any participating do the same:)

Best regards

If there is a Hitler reference in the original post does it still count as a Godwin?

Hi Serina,

i think it was wrong of her to start having a go at you like this, but you may want to remove the name from your post. Its against the guidelines.
I know the resmods are sort of .... workign in the background...atm but if they spot it...

Well, anyway... just a thought.

I didnt think you could godwin your own thread? i thought it had to be someone else doing it. Say if I said...
Hitler prolly would have done the same....
:p
does that count?

Besides, isn't brenda the master godwinner and pants waver?
well i thought she was anyway... :)

Mein Kamf was a book by Adolph Hitler largely written during the time he spent imprisoned in the years after World War 1.

It has nothing to do with Gor other than the fact that it is a book, and the Gor novels are also books.

If you wanted to... have some fun, respond this way:

Immediate response: "Oh my you are SO right!!!!!111"

Ten seconds later: "Please lead me back to health and morality!"

Ten minutes later: "I need to spend every minute with you and spread your gospel..."

Ten hours later: "No, that's not fast enough, we have to SAVE them from themselves!!!!!1111"

Ten days later: Introduce her to your new cadre of weaponed, uniformed ex ka jira disciples.

*lock and load animations clicking as they look upon her in hushed awe*

It was already Godwined.

--------

Obligatory On Topic portion:

Yes some people are real close-minded about Gor Role Play in Second Life. They hear wild stories about what Gor is from those who really have a slanted view of it and they use that to prejudge the whole past time.

Some of these slated views originate from the practices of some extreme fringe wacko real-life Goreans who have been arrested for participating in non-consensual sex slavery.

People lump them together. But thats kind of lumping in all NRA members in with Gun-toting Killers.

Lana, this one never got on the rails in the first place.

OP: You muted her. You have done the correct thing. Nothing more needs to be done.

Lol well I wouldn't say it makes you a good rolemodel. I don't sense that Gorean roleplay in SL is necessarily matched to the actual values espoused by Gorean society in the books but in case you never read any of the books (and I wouldn't blame you if you didn't because, content aside, the prose is painful to read), Gorean society has among its primary beliefs that women are chattel and desire to be dominated by men. Kind of makes it a rallying call for mysogynists. :p

Until I read what "Gor" was, I used to think it was based on the old Commodore 64 game "Wizard of Gor". :D

Imagine my surprise when it's not about shooting aliens in a maze!!

The OP needs friends who are less judgemental.

However, I think what they were trying to say is that John Norman wrote them as a satire against the women's movement ...

"Wrote" being a matter of opinion. A two year old writing in yellow crayon on yellow paper with his feet would probably have turned out better fiction but that is just *MY* opinion. Actually, Gor RP and Gor itself is a massive travesty of the original - which I find comfortingly ironic.

Also, asshats notwithstanding, some of the nicest people I have met in SL are into Gor. It's not my cup of tea and I have groaned at one person known to you all when I heard but he is happy so that's that. Live and let live!

Please send an IM here or in world if you would like to talk, Serina. :) I've had a LOT of experience in Gor - actually wrote my Master's thesis on it, which is how I got involved in the first place - and I can assure you Hitler has nothing to do with it. Each of the Gor books takes place in a different region of Earth culture - much of it based on ancient Greece and Rome.

I could expound on this all day, but basically the person who contacted you doesn't know chit from shinola about Gor.

Now there are people who are very negative about Gor for a multitude of other reasons, but this Hitler thing is just...bizarre.

Serina

I did read "Main Kampf" and "Hunters of Gor", trust me, mein Kampf is much better but I wouldn't RP that - I think. Imagine the controversial discussions in the forums about an "Ausschwitz" SIM, or RP raids in SL Poland...uaaaa....what a bizzarre thought - but in SL everything seams to be possible.

I do however enjoy RP in SL Gor..

Maggie, just curious, you're a Panther. Do you get the same satisfaction from it as someone into shooting aliens in a maze does?

Not being facetious here ... thrill of the chase and "capture" seems to be key to both activities (albeit not a direct comparison).

Oh btw congrats for reading Mein Kampf. I am a big WW2 buff and I simply could NOT read it. It was just dross to read (tho it amused me quite how communist some of the bits I did read were - maybe I should try again. I better shut up really, he sometimes reads the Forums to see what I have been up to and I don't want reading Mein Kampf as a punishment ...)
