No dead bodies in the guest house.

I clean up after my guests or I send Molly Maid or whatever they're called. Actually I have a lovely older woman who can arrange flowers and cooks a mean bacon butty.

That's because there is no sex involved in the discussion ;)

And that is sad. Very very sad. A Friday night without sex in sl is liek eating a doft boled egg with no salt.

Hold your horses. I've just seen something that might be the answer. I'm testing as soon as I post this and, if it is the answer, I'll feel like celebratory shag.

Bollocks! It didn't work.

I'd been curious as to why only the most recent threads were bolded but not older ones. I'd assume that the cookie would simply contain the time that I left (closed the browser, though I'm not sure that that's possible), and that in compiling the page of threads for me, all the forum software does is bold those that have later posts in them. So I'm thinking that there's a time set wrong somewhere.

I spotted DST option in the my User CP - it was set to always off rather than automatic, and I was sure I'd found the answer. I set it to auto and did the same sort of check as before, but it made no difference.

I still feel that it's a time thing, so I'll look some more.

ETA:
It could still be the answer. If it's anything like the phpBB forum, this foum ends a session after a period of inactivity - say, 10 minutes. Perhaps I won't know if I've found the answer until I've been inactive for the period of time. I'll see how it goes.

Mine was doing it too.........I think it happened after a Windows update the other day. I fixed mine by going to Tools > Internet Options > on the General Tab (the first one) make sure "Delete browsing history on exit" is not checked.

If this does not work click start>control panel> Network and Internet Connections>Internet Options Make sure that all the settings here match the settings you make in IE tools.

The two windows that you open through these two different means may look the same but they are separate. The one Peggydoll is opening is titled 'Internet Options' the one I directed you to is 'Internet Properties' and they can have conflicting settings. The more strict of the two will rule.

I've not had problem with IE in years. Then again I only use Mozilla's Firefox unless a site requires IE :D

Ty, Rafe. It's not far from my bedtime now so I'll leave it until tomorrow, to see if the DST thing worked after a period of inactivity. It may just do it. I'm not used to closing the browser and opening it again so soon afterwards, so I don't know what it would have been like previosuly, and my test may not have been suitable. If it hasn't fixed it, I'll try your suggestion tomorrow.

I had a look, Rafe, and both boxes contain identical settings all the way through them.

Then you should be getting the intended results. If you're not you might look at any anti-adware programs you're running. It might be targeting the forum's cookies as tracking cookies. Just put 'http://forums.secondlife.com' in the "ignore" category.

So far, so good. When I got here today, I checked the time of my last post last night (I closed the browser for the night very soon after that), and the only bold threads contain newer posts. I'm not yet convinced but it's looking promising.

It isn't any software on my machine, Rafe, because I don't run it every day so it couldn't be responsible. Also, I do see the list of found tracking cookies, and this site is never in it.

Cool. I think your browser is fine now. The adware thing was just an idea if you were still having the problems :-)

Yep - and I'm hoping that the User CP setting has fixed it. Everything was as it should be when I arrived today but I want more evidence than just that one time. I'll know better after I have a nap (up too early today).

The CP Panel setting didn't work. For some reason, this forum is not recording the time when it finds I'm no longer here and it bolds thread titles according to what I think may be my previous arrival time and it's darned annoying.

I'm stumped on this one, my bolding works fine. I can't get it not to work. I changed my time settings in CP and waited an hour before coming back and the correct threads are in bold.

You might just have to resort to looking at the thread icon. If that is even working right in your browser.

I'm stumped too. I'll try it with another computer to see if it's unique to this one. In the meantime I can resort to clicking the 'Mark all post read' link before I close down each time.

I've had issues with that, as well as what you describe, since time immemorable.

well if you ever figure it out, let me know.... it can be very annoying to see a fast moving thread marked unread, only to realize too late it also shows you were the last poster =/

I've seen the problem for years, IE, FF, doesn't matter... but also as you note, if you don't check more than ~1/day it doesn't have a problem.... I suspect a conflict between the webserver timecode, or possibly between account info being updated (which may happen on a delay to save cycles)

How about that. I'm using another computer which is also running IE8. I've closed down twice and come back, and the bold threads are exactly as they should be. I don't see how it can be something at my end yet, but I'll compare the settings and programme setting of both machines to see if i can find a difference. Having said that, the one that's wrong runs in XP and this one runs in Vista, so maybe I won't find a difference that matters.

See now, I have the exact opposite problem... I finish reading a thread, go back to RA, and threads that were bold are now marked as read.

I figured it was just LL using this ancient forum software.

When I logged into the forum today, on my Vista/IE8 machine, all the bolding was as it should be. So, putting it together with the experience of that machine yesterday, the thread bolding works fine on that machine.

So I compared things with my XP/IE8 machine (this one) and found a possibly significant difference. This is for anyone else who is having the same sort of problem. I'm testing it now and others can try it too if they want to...

In the Internet Properties box, and in the Internet Options box, in the Privacy tab, Settings (top half):-

Vista/IE8: Settings is set to Medium.

XP/IE8: nothing was set and I clicked the Default button to set it. Then it was set to Medium, like the Vista machine. I did that in both the Internet Properties and Internet Options boxes. Maybe with nothing set, IE8 operates high privacy. That Settings does have something to do with cookies so, again, I'm a bit hopeful :)

The Internet Options box is available in the browser > Tool > Internet Options.

The Internet Properties box is available from the Control Panel > Internet Options.

As Rafe said earlier, the boxes look the same except for their titles at the top, but they are different. Changing one does not change the other, so change them both if you're going to try it.

I'm using the XP machine (the bad one) now, to see if it fixed the problem, and I should know during today.

I must say there's a few oddities on this forum. Thank goodness I'm sane and sensible. Some of you are a few sandwiches short of a picnic, however.

Jig, you are an insult to humanity. I only wish you live long enough to find out what life is really about. It isn't those material things that you treasure so much, slighting other people that aren't fortuante to have them. Believe me they won't keep you company or warm if you mange to live a long life.
