Is this happening to anyone else, or is it just happening to me:- When I close the browser down (recently upgraded to IE while this forum is open, like now, this forum forgets my history and, when I come back, thread titles are in bold, as though there are new posts, but there haven't been any new posts in many of the bold titled threads. It's the forum software that keeps track of which threads I've read, and it displays titles in bold or not accordingly, so I can't see it being an IE8 effect. On the other hand, LL doesn't do aything with the forum software, so nothing has changed in that respect. It's a recent development and the only thing that has changed is me upgrading to IE8. It seems like too big a coincidence, but I don't see how it can be the cause. Is anyone else finding this?

It has been happening to me since the Crimean War.

And it might be accepting them, but discarding them on exit. I don't know if that's a setting in IE8.

I've searched for a Cookies on/off option and can't find one. I've found a window of cookies override settings and even a window for specific selection of websites - to allow or block cookies - and everything appears to be ok for cookies from this site. Also, I don't have to log each time I come, so cookies are clearly working for here.

/me doesn't have that issue but rendering performance seems to have gone south for the winter. Like, if I click the Quick Links thing up top, it sometimes takes 2-3 seconds to draw. Things like paging up/down through a long post are also quite slow.
Started fairly recently, on both home and work machines, both XP and IE8. Doesn't seem to happen on other web pages. And yes, I have strong viral medicine on both machines - almost positive I haven't caught anything.

I haven't had any problems with this forum but now that I've read all about it I'm sure to develop them, plus Housemaid's Knee.

I don't have Meade's problem but I (accidentally) found that turning Compatibility on for this forum made things much worse than they were, and turning it off made it much better.

That's really weird. Since Meade said that it's better by turning compatibiliy view on, I thought I'd try it again - and now it's actually quicker than with it off - not a lot, because it wasn't slow before, but still quicker. Twice in the past I've turned it on and found forum pages load slowly in a sort of a slow sweep from left to right, and I wasn't going to put up with that. But now it's sharper - no sweeps, let alone slow ones. Very strange.

Mine was doing it too.........I think it happened after a Windows update the other day. I fixed mine by going to Tools > Internet Options > on the General Tab (the first one) make sure "Delete browsing history on exit" is not checked.

this forum hasn't consistently marked read threads for at least the last 3 years of my using it..... even when I explicitly use the mark forum as read button.... nothing new there.

My 'delete internet history' isn't checked, Peggy.
It doesn't do it if I open a new tab and load the forum, but if I close the browser and open it again straiught away, all the recent threads are bold whether any new posts have been added or not.
ETA: I just tried it again immediately after I posted this and every thread down to and including the undying thread is bold, including this thread which I'd just posted to and nobody posted after me. Below that, they are not bold.
Btw, it's not cookies. I never have to log into this forum - it recognises me, so it's getting its cookie(s).

Random things to try: - check your filter settings (it's enabled if Tools / InPrivate filtering is checked - if it's turned on you can check the settings in the menu option below it) - use "Mark Forums Read" at the bottom of http://forums.secondlife.com/ to force everything to show as read, cross your fingers and hope it behaves - clear all cookies And probably an obvious one: make sure you're not using "InPrivate browsing" (fairly obvious since you'll see "InPrivate" right at the front of the address bar).

Nope. No difference. After clearing everything twice, there were 3 bold threads - people had posted while i was doing it. This was one of them, so I made sure that this and another one were read and not bold. Then I closed the browser, opened it again and came in. All 3 of those threads were back to bold and the 2 that I'd ensured were not bold when I closed the browser had not had any additional posts. I'm stumped.
