Karlpeter, sometimes the hair maker includes a 'bald' hair for you to wear. If they don't you can just make one by going into your appearance and selecting new hair. Then just adjust the sliders until all your linden hair disappears from your head. You might want to adjust your eyebrows there too while you're at it.

As for realistic hair I'd have to say Naughty or the new Armidi are both quite good.

If you have a bigger head size forget about ETD, the hair won't fit right. Wish it came in different sizes because some of the styles are quite nice. I like Gurl 6 and Sirena's best of all. And Sirena's has some wonderful updo's too. And check out the monthly specials and sales at Gurl 6, I've got some great hair for cheap that way. Calla and "Hair by Tami McCoy" are also nice and I have some from there but I like my hair a bit longer than most of their styles. I wear mainly blonde hair and all these seem to have the most realistic hair in that color group. I do have SOME nice styles from Zero-Style, Cake, Goldilocks, and a beautiful one that I get loads of compliments on from Analog Dog called "Lola." Cake is good for dark hair, I hate their blonde colors. I've never looked good in any style from Deviant Kitties but I've seen it on other avi's and its looked great. Calico is nice if you're in the mood to drop some major lindens.

If I made anything like that, I would be using this script in the products:
http://www.slexchange.com/modules.php?name=Marketplace&file=item&ItemID=282300

Basically, it lets you keep whatever permissions you want as the creator, and the customer can still resize it even if it comes no-mod. It sounds useful to me anyway (I do not know the creator nor do I have any of their products, it is just one of my 70+ favorite list items to keep an eye on, on SLX).

Take a look at "Moonshine," creations by Shelly Toonie on the sim of Silver Lake. Very attractive, unique and interesting hairstyles for men and women.

I love Bewitched! I was iffy on some of their curly styles when I first ran into them, but now they're some of my favorites. They have a huge variety, too - styles, textures, accessories...

I'm also fond of my Gurl6 styles.

There are a bunch of others I like okay, but Bewitched is my hands-down favorite.

most everyone has mentioned most of my favorites but I am not sure if I have seen RAC mentioned. They are a bit pricey but I am loving some of the styles right now.

I agree that different designers are better at different colours. I've bought a great updo from a big name in a dark colour, gone back and bought it in blonde without trying the demo and ended up looking as if I have curved planks of wood on my head!

For long straight flexi styles, I don't think you can beat Cake (their Chocolate colour is a beautful, natural deep auburn as well), Adam n Eve and Sirena. ETD (I'm sure her hair is mod btw so should fit anyone) and Calla do great updos. Calico Creations has wonderful shaggy men's hair which also looks good on women. I haven't yet found a good curly style anywhere but I think that's because of SL limitations .. Calico comes closest but it's a bit "flufffy" for me :). I probably own hair from every designer in SL I've ever heard of (I consider it the most important part of my look in RL and SL) and those few are the only ones I wear consistently.

I looooove Analog Dog! They have great flexi hair that moves realisticly! Also my favorite hair which i wear all the time and am always getting complimented on is from Calico! :-)

I like the Dog's flex hair, too...and their color change HUD lets you change shades in a flash without having to own twenty different color wigs. Two caveats: The banged styles come in two parts, the bang and the main hair. If you don't want to lose an attachment point, you'll have to edit the hair, then link the bang and the main part into a single object. Also, I think the colors are not as realistic as some other makers.

I also like the flex styles (Destiny and Escape) from Jolie Femme. In fact, Destiny is my "everyday" hair.

ETD is great. I still wear the freebie style (Airy) I got from them when going clubbing or for formal occasions. Cake is fabulous, but kind of expensive. Celestial Studios has a couple of very nice flex styles, too.

ps -- Analog Dog is worth going to, just to see the store. Hint: The owner is a mermaid.

All of the known good names have been mentioned here (and some that I didn't know, so my "thanks" for that).

Let me underscore what Isobel mentioned ... if you are looking for nice short women's hair, try a shaggy male hairpiece and scale it down. Sometimes this works like a charm. One of my girls is mostly wearing a L$ 10 shaggy flex male piece from Calico and it is looking so good that you would never have guessed the price.

I wear Cake hair mostly - but I also have some from Kin and ETD that I wear a lot too. Gurl6 is nice because they have lots of styles to choose from and supply them in small, medium and large sizes. There are so many talented hair makers - I'm sure I could find something I'd like from all of them.

Enjoy trying all the demos before you buy. :)
