Realistic Hair?

hhmmm.. hair...hair...
So i've got my new semi-photo realistic skin from DD Designs (Good price, my shape has almost the perfect nose by coincidence lol)

And I've got my awesome clothes that I keep buying cause I'm a clothes-freak...

But I'm still wearing hair from free-dove (Panache Candie Vonta, coloured bright red)
I love this hair, but.. I'd like to find something a bit more realistic. However, I can't recall ever really seeing anything that looks realistic for hair aside from buzz cuts and such on skins... do they even exist?

EDIT:: What I mean is, the shape and such of the hair might be awesome, but textures.. almost never.. usually just a simple 'stripe' on a gennerally solid background to make it look semi-gloss... I want something more

Armidi is my current rave about and has hair that moves beautifully. it is sculpted though so will look funny when you first put it on.

also another fave of mine is ETD

if You are budget concious Taunt. and Wilted Rose are reasonable and have really nice hair as well
also HCT, Calico, Deviant Kitties, and Analog Dog

good Luck!:)

The first is making shoes at night while, you know, while the old cobbler sleeps. You can bake cookies in a tree. But the third job, some call it, uh, "the show" or "the big dance," it's the profession that every linden aspires to.

Lost (naughty designs) does a good job with realisitic hair.

They use Alpha in many of the textures though which can cause some distortion if you are standing in front of other alpha channels.

Try Goldie Locks. Her hair looks real and you might even win a free one from the lucky chairs.

I have tons of hair, but whenever I want to look real I end up wearing ETD or Hairapy hair.

I think most of the major bransds have been covered. But as a hair fanatic, I have to mention a few lesser known brands that I like:

Bleach, Cake, Kin Keiko, Zero-Style, and probably 15 others if I was logged in ;P

#1 on my list right now is zero style. ETD and "Hair by Tami McCoy" are also fab.

Oh absolutely no question, 0 (zero) style - I wear Willow constantly. Also have a look at Cake - they have a style called Myst that induces swoons in the observer AND the wearer :)

Can't resist.........

Armidi is relatively new and fabulous (rumoured to be alts of other big designer, can't imagine they'd have the time tbh) lovely colours and textures and very nice momvement, but for the moment limited selection.

ETD has styles to suit everyone and the ones I've got from there are among the most used. Also some very good, relatively low prim, ones (useful for busy or laggy places).

Less well-known favourites of mine: Zero-style and HCT.

Callico for great updo's, Sirena has some lovely flexi styles with nice textures and movement. Tami McCoy has some nice ones, quite a few of them pretty low prim, though not all of them very realistic.

Just my 2c, IMHO, YMMV etc...

I'm a big fan of Analog Dog Hair. She does great flexi hair of which I own a number of styles. You can also buy the any of the various Color Huds to change the color of your hairstyle. I have found that I also like prim hair with some flexi. Best advice is to go to places that offer demos that you can buy, most are only a L$1. This way you can make sure you will love it on your avatar and you can delete any that you don't like.

I would recommend Cake, IMO they seem to have the most realistic looking hair :)

Actually, I saw Cake hair in the FKNY shop yesterday and I must say it looked pretty good in the ads. Don't own any (yet?), so can't speak as to how it looks when worn.

I wear Cake hair all the time, have bought other makes and put them on and only warn once as they never seem to have the natural look I like.

Treat yourself next time ;)

Another plug for Analog Dog. That's about all the hair I wear anymore and always get compliments on it.

Gurl6 has been my hair of choice. I've tried a lot of the others and have had issues with fit. I guess, because of my size, I'm very small. All of theirs come in 3 sizes when you buy them and the smallest is always perfect for me. Also, the movement is very nice on them, and pretty realistic too. Great color range as well and they also give away nice freebies now and then. The only thing is they have not come out with a good curly style yet, you know, something really long and Rapunzel like, which I'm dying for. They have one in black now, but I'm a blonde, and my alt is a redhead - so, alas, I continue to wait for that.

If anyone knows any of the others which come sized similar, let me know!

My two cents worth!

Hair is probably my weakness.....I have a lot of hair from Sirena Hair & Fashions...the price is very reasonable and it looks great on....most of the newer styles now have built-in face lighting and a cool colour-changing accessory. she has some wonderful up-do's too.

Hair...
11-10-2007 09:54
If you have a bigger head size forget about ETD, the hair won't fit right. Wish it came in different sizes because some of the styles are quite nice. I like Gurl 6 and Sirena's best of all. And Sirena's has some wonderful updo's too. And check out the monthly specials and sales at Gurl 6, I've got some great hair for cheap that way. Calla and "Hair by Tami McCoy" are also nice and I have some from there but I like my hair a bit longer than most of their styles. I wear mainly blonde hair and all these seem to have the most realistic hair in that color group. I do have SOME nice styles from Zero-Style, Cake, Goldilocks, and a beautiful one that I get loads of compliments on from Analog Dog called "Lola." Cake is good for dark hair, I hate their blonde colors. I've never looked good in any style from Deviant Kitties but I've seen it on other avi's and its looked great. Calico is nice if you're in the mood to drop some major lindens.

11-10-2007 10:09
Finally bought some hair.
I try to get the bald head to then wear the hair, but I cannot get bald!
That and I'm having trouble actually finding the hair.
I went to a sand box to unpack.
yikes.

As well as shape, I think colour is an important factor.

For Black hair..Lost ( Naughty Designs).
Some designers have lovely shapes for black hair, but it just looks like a blob of black stuff on your head, due to insufficient texturing.

For Red/Auburn ......Gurl 6.

Tami Mcoy has some very nice short styles.

I often wonder if the RL hair colour of the designers influences their "feel" for the texturing.
