I've been searching for a new peaceful and quiet spot to live in SL for more than 3 weeks since losing my beautiful home and lot to the opensim fiasco. I'm running into the same thing.
Maybe I'm spoiled. Maybe I am asking for too much....
All I want is a nice little affordable, uncrowded place to rent from a respectable sim owner. I've looked at almost every classified post here and across the street. I've searched in world. Everything I see is crowded with crap and scripts that lag. Parcels that are cut down to the hairline and houses that are built so closely together that they're almost touching from the outside of the sim all the way in. And no offense to those of you who own it, but mainland just isn't for me. It lags so bad, for me, it's a bandwidth vampire. Yes, perhaps I am spoiled, but my SL is about beautiful and natural pixel surroundings, not blinking lights, rotating orbs and so much gaudy garbage everywhere even a mile high skybox would lag! *stomps*
I'm frustrated. Linden Labs has really screwed up the grid. Openspace/Homesteads, whatever they're called these days, are out of the question. They're not for me affordable anymore. I cannot believe how angry this has made me. SL is my one true enjoyable hobby and if I don't have a place to tp home to, well that just sucks almighty moose...ahem..pg, yeah pg forums.... Pfft..rawr.

Start a blog called something like A Place to Call My Own or something and then go looking around at all the places people can live and write about them - with pictures. Then we can all read it.

I know several rental communities on surface are quite beautiful, etc but even those have issues especially around script lag and confined cramp builds except for few

Hehe Ralektra, that's what I've been entertaining. Even when I had a full 4096 beautiful parcel, I still spent most of my time above it all in the sky. Then when I came down, it was to a lovely home and nothing so close that I felt boxed in. Wherever I end up, there will be a skybox, I would just love to be sure that the main part below, that I'm paying the main portion of the rent for, is useable as well.

I'm renting mainland from Penumbro Eclipse through the group named SLLC Estates. Paying 1.5 L$ per prim. The spot we are on has been quite so far but with any rental place that may change at any time. It may also stay this way for years. Who knows.

OH and before I forget, Honeybear had some rental places with houses. Sort of a 50's surburbia look and family oriented. Simple houses and white picket fences. That sort of style. I don't remember what she charges or if she even still has the sims, but we can always ask.

The homes are fairly well spaced out, and I keep the residency numbers fairly low on the ground. There are several skyboxes for rent, as well.

I LOVE living 1000m in the sky with baroque music playing.
We've been really fortunate with the mainland sim we live on. When we first moved there, it was for rental land on a water sim. Had never seen one of those before, but since we lived in the sky, didn't matter what was on land particularly. However, at that time, what was on land/water looked like one giant flea market. Over time, it got better looking to the point I purchased land there. It is a really pretty sim and I have never seen more than 7 people at one time on the entire sim and most times my Partner and I are the only ones there. (Most of it is also for sale, but with the new For Sale sign rules...no ugly signs..yeaaa!!)
There is peace in SL, just sometimes takes awhile to find it.

Try Sarah Nerd, she's very reputable and runs some good sims.

Try Flanagan Falls too. The prices are a little higher, but the sim is breathtaking and built well. Always very quiet when I go there, too...never more than 3 people and usually no one at all.

I have a rented appartment somewhere for 150 Lindens a week. (Can't spam the location here I guess) For the rest I'm a drifter. I just travel around the map until i find someones SIM that is build able, and simply left to die. There are a lot of sims like this. forest like, empty, nobody ever there, and the owner probably didn't log in the grid for months. I just hyjack a piece of land by building on it in a tiny hidden spot. If the owner finds out and deletes my stuff, well, too bad then. One more plus, it's free

From: MoxZ Mokeev I just don't do homeless in sl very well. Even when I have a home, I am homeless. I didn't set out to be a drifter, it just sort of worked out that way. What's the point of having things if you don't have someone to share them with.

From: Bree Giffen From: Ralektra Breda in the sky, in the sky Shhhhhh! The less people know the better! I was gonna "fix" that "less" to "fewer" but now that I think about it, "less" is good too. Seriously, for low lag, it's very hard to beat a sky build on a quiet Mainland sim. Script-wise, it will sure out-perform any OpenSpace/Homestead, past or future. And getting the hell off the ground level is just necessary for good viewer performance, whether it's Mainland or Estate. Since early-on, I've learned to reserve the ground level for mostly decorative builds and landscaping (which admittedly doesn't help viewer lag down there ), and spend most of my "peace and quiet" time well up in the sky. It's apparently difficult for folks to get past the idea of "living" on the ground, but now that I've lived in the sky, I'll never go back down there.

Jackson Rickenbacker. I have lived on her sims for 2 years now. She is reputable and very fair. She and her staff are very responsive. IM her in-world, either she or a member of her staff will respond very quickly.

I love Peronaut but don't know if there are any lots open at the time or if they're "the good ones." Well, I know the best one isn't open; I'm on it

Signed Pissy Kitty Mox in a tailspin I have a beautiful, no lag skybox at over 4000m up that you can use. There are other avatars there but they don't say or do anything anything all day and night. It's so peaceful there that you would even forget that you are in SL

I hesitate, but others are self-advertising here.
I have a very pretty, rather quiet, region with one unique rental left in the very back. It is isolated from the other parcels in the region by a river and small lake.
If you are interested please search your map for Wild Rice, or IM me directly. =)

is where I've lived now for 7 months. It is quiet, beautiful, friendly and highly motivated to make their tenants happy. You didn't mention rental prices but if you can't afford the beach, they have skyboxes as well...either on your own little platform or as a community of 4-5 houses. You can message me inworld or message Ivor Tigerpaw..or better yet, just drop by and check it out yourself.

I still think my sky looks better than Windlight's.
