annoying Greeters

Its annoying to click every Greeter Message (twice) away after teleporting. Its a very high level of Spamming. I m not able to mute so many greeters, so i have to activate the buisy-mode to avoid such greeters.

Any User of Greeters should think of them, that not all SL-Gamer (i guess most SL-Gamers) want such messages.

I agree. I hate the things and mute them when I get them.

You will NOT get one when you come to my shop. We all have the ability to make landmarks anywhere we like, so what's the point? I have a sign that you can click to join my group if you like. And I have an online indicator in my shop that will accept a notecard or send me an IM.

I wish more shopkeepers felt this way.

It doesn't bother me that much, but I personally wouldn't use one of them in my shop unless I had something particularly urgent to say.
As a customer, when they just say "welcome" I feel that it detracts from the experience more than enhances it. When it admonishes me how to behave, or assumes I'm going to want to spend a lot of money, it seems slightly insulting.
A nice prim sign near the entrance seems more tasteful.

You must do a lot of shopping, Sunny.

Actually, sometimes, greeters are useful. They give you a quick rundown of the rules of the land and who to contact if something goes wrong. Other times, they are little spam bots.

I prefer, if greeted, to be greeted in chat rather than having a note card or two dozen dumped on me. Unless it's a role play area, then I want the two dozen note cards. I also don't need freebies right off the bat. I like hunting for those things...

That said, I did think about getting a simple greeter that listens for an arrival, welcomes the arrival, and gives brief spiel about the perms and who to contact with questions or requests. No blue buttons to click.

/me agrees. (=_=)

And, notecard givers too. It's not THAT hard to script a greeter to keep a list of visitors, add to that list on detection, send a single greet (maybe a single notecard), and then nicely clam up while that avatar's name hasn't been GC'ed form the list. (^_^)y

An object that welcomes me to the store is so impersonal. If you want to welcome me in that way, just put down a rug with the word Welcome on it.

I make it my mission to always feedback to a land owner when I am spammed by a greeter. If people just keep muting them or putting up with them then the landowners will never learn. I would much rather take a second to moan and complain in the hopes that someone listens.

If there is a good reason to give them to new visitors, I would rather hear a chat announcement say "Please click the red sign for a notecard explaining all our rules" or something similar. I just automatically discard or mute all those offers of landmarks and notecards, so I may not see your rules -- ever.

What a lot of store owners don't realise is that many people do what Cheree's just said, and end up muting *them*, which could mean sales items not being delivered. I did this the other month without realising: automatically muted an annoying notecard-giver that gave me the same damn thing every time I turned up at the store. Then, a couple of weeks ago, after some to-ing and fro-ing with the store owner, I realised why the items I had just paid for hadn't turned up: because I'd muted the spammy notecard, which in turn meant I had muted the store owner. I'd just forgotten all about it.

Besides why do you need rules? If it's a weapon shop then it does make sense to have an in your face kind of announcement about where to test demos and where not to bother other customers. But last night I tp'd to a very nice clothing store and had a blue pop-up tell me that nudity and weapons weren't allowed. It just seemed kind of unnecessary. The kind of people who would use weapons or be non-pg in a area like that are probably going to be just as willing to flaunt your rules as they are to behave in appropriately in the first place.

I don't feel that my shop needs to post rules, but there are places where they are warranted. Clubs might need to post them, for instance. I have no problem with making the rules available, just do it quietly please.

I hate the cutsey scripted greeters people put in their shops. The little robots are bad enough, but I also got stalked by a creepy teddy bear once...I was the only person in the shop at the time and it would NOT leave me alone. So I left.

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

Ooh, I have been just muting all those that I don't recognize. Maybe it is time for me to start spamming them back. hmmmm

Although I do send out invitations to join my group to people who buy a package of poses if they are not already a member. What does everyone think of that practice?

I prefer a sign at the rez point where I can click to get a landmark/notecard/join group, or whatever. That way it's my choice and I'm not being spammed with greeter messages. One message is fine, I suppose, but it gets old when it's message after message.

the best greeter to put out is "please don't buy my stuff, it's special and only meant for group members, I just can't set it up to do that right now" :)

What about playing a sound bite that says "The white zone is for loading and unloading of passengers only.... There is no stopping in the red zone."

I guess only movie buffs would get that one.

i hate auto greeters and auto-notecard/landmark givers. i click ignore/discard everytime... if i get spammed twice at the same place, i leave immediately.

Actually I have used one like that and I think they are ok. Now though I just try to make people feel welcome by making it easy to get in and see what I'm offering for sale, in a pleasant atmosphere.

I love it! I think that would be great if you had an airport themed place!

Right now, I have a sign that does the job. It says that all clothing are mod/copy and that I can be IM'd/note carded for questions. So far, with a few exceptions, it works well enough.

And people, if you stop in my shop and Trilliannas greets you, please don't mute her! That's ME working on the building! I had a person mute her because they thought she was a greeter. Turns out the person then had a question and decided to ask out loud.. and didn't hear me reply. Go figure...

Glad to hear that the signs work. I personally do not mute things or people that say things in chat unless they keep saying the same thing over and over, like lucky chairs.
