That would be great Strife...
Perhaps while you are on the phone to them, you could ask them to clear the backlog of all the applications from the free service employees like Mentors.. perhaps insert some confidence in the mentor groups that there is perhaps a Linden out there that gives a toss.... can perhaps organise OI Inductions for all those Greeters that have enrolled now as Mentors as the Greeters group was dropped like a hot potato in a 'last minute decision', and why those Greeters with over a years experience, do not have GrandFather rights.. and have more 'world friendly' meeting times..... <gasps for breath>

Do you think you can fit all that into one phone call? LOLOL.... GL

I think it's a brilliant idea, and would gladly donate time.

Reminds me to ask a blonde question though (so maybe i'm too blonde to help out :D ) ....... with all the log in problems last night i finally managed to get in and landed in a Welcome Area. (yes, did actually manage to help some people while i was there :) )
Obviously i know what OI is, or rather the OIs are, i also regularly spend time on HI public, soooo where does a Welcome Area sit in all of this?

thanks in advance for the repies ;)

Sally, if you create an alt these days, one of your very first options before entering SL is to choose a "welcome area" sponsored by a specific group. There's a few different national welcome areas, and some corporate ones as well. It sort of lets you choose a "basic interest" entry point.

The OI that you and I can TP to is the ancient one with the path and the stations. It looks nothing like the new Linden Lab OI, which is laid out more like city blocks, with specific areas for learning how to move, how to talk, how to edit your avatar, etc.

I didn't try any of the other OIs or Welcome Areas, but I would guess that they each have their own ways of orienting people.

Don't quote me on any of this because I've never done the other ones, and my alt was created a while back, so I'm not sure what's new.

uh okay, so if I understand correctly, a welcome area is like a non-LL OI?

LL have posted the API (Application Programming Interface) which is basically software switches.. the intension is that anyone can sign up and 'donate' their own OI so that LL can use that LM to redirect newcomers. You can also now use 'sign up' links direct from your own website and presumably gain referal payments (not sure on that one).
I noticed that there is no offer of reduced teir or other inscentives, I guess you just get traffic to your branded sim and get to give the newcomer a 'Coca Cola' tee shirt and baseball cap to show how popular your OI is as opposed to anyone elses... Great if you are a corporate and have a few $'s to spare from your advertising budget...
Pity LL didn't offer some of the considerable savings on 'non-earning' sims (OI) they will now be able to use on the open market, to those that take up the challenge to takeover what is after all their responsibility. I don't mind sharing my cake with someone.. but not pay them to eat it all.

AWM and others, thanks much for passing on your knowledge. I think there's enough positive feedback on this to go ahead ... particularly in view of this completely piteous thread from this morning:

/327/16/209209/1.html

Trapped on OI! Oh noes!

I need to do some research on this tho, so will post again to this thread in a week or two on progress. Thanks so much all for your interest!

Hey Nika,
Would a RAOGK group be an idea to keep everyone up to date? At the rate these threads get knocked off the front page, there's no guarantee that someone would see it say, after a long weekend away from the forums.
(p.s. get it? "Raogk Group?" Rock Group? Haha I slay me.)
