Yeah, the traditional rubber-band effect -- and often preceeded by uncontrolled walking/flying thru the wall or into the next sim or into never never land.

Doesnt seem like lag...lag normally affects chat.... this actually affects movement...getting so far and then suddenly being pulled back to a position i was in sometime before.
Ive not experienced it as often as I am doing now... _____________________

Yes, I've had this for quite some time.
If you can, try to watch and see if an avatar has TP'd into the sim at the moment it happens. I will, almost without fail, rubber band if I am walking and a new avi enters the sim. There is a JIRA about this, looking at a potential problem with Mono. The theory is that it happens when people TP in because they are wearing mono scripted attachments, which appear to have a greater negative impact than they should on sim FPS. Here is a JIRA where you can find out more: http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-3895 **edit to add - as I said, I've seen this for awhile, but I also feel it is getting worse. _____________________

Thanks and voted. I pointed to the other one because I have been watching it for some time, but I am willing to believe mono isn't the only problem. Something is very wrong, and the issue doesn't seem to be getting anywhere near enough attention. I think spreading the word about the issue, and these and the other related JIRAs is important, even though it may yield no attention from the Lindens. Thanks again. ![]() _____________________

It's interesting. I've been seeing it too, but in two distinct ways. On one Mainland sim (Myron), the effect is due to the sim itself lagging, which is easy to see in the Statistics bar. That sim has had problems even before 1.27--I've asked it to be restarted twice in the recent past, which cleared the lag for a time; I asked again a couple days ago (mentioning the small box of bots this time, which may have slowed response). I suspect that the root cause of this one is the old bug with stranded scripts continuing to demand resources after they're no longer actually present in the sim.
On other sims, I see it just when I enter the sim, while loading all the textures and prims. The sims themselves seems fine according to Statistics, but I get horrendous rubber-banding at first. I'm not sure what's going on with this, exactly--it could be any of the several 1.27 performance problems reported in the jira--but it sure seems to be a new thing since 1.27. _____________________

The thing I have experienced lately, is exiting appearance mode, and then a few seconds later I spin back as if I'm back in appearance mode and "exit" again..

Spend a lot of time running on the spot these days. And watching other people doing this as well. Also things like group taichi are out of sync far more now. More so than a month or so ago.

/me also points at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Client-side_prediction...
This is why, when i'm going on my SVC-4616 rant, I tell people to fly in circles to see the problem. It takes the sim being alive and sending you updates and make you turn. If the sim locks up, you go flying straight as client-side prediction takes over and tries to cover for the lack of sim updates. Once the sim wakes up again, you 'snap' back to where the sim thinks you should be.. _____________________

That's not a bug, it's a new feature to test whether you really wanted to make that edit or not ![]() ![]() Maybe the next step is to do away with shape editing altogether. To get our avatars looking fabulously gorgeous we have to go to a virtual gym or run around the block, and eat vegetables. arrghhh!!! ![]() |

Boingggg has always happened. i've been here just over two years and it must be worse than ever because I cant say Ive noticed it before. Lag yes... but this business of walking and then suddenly stopping as if hitting an invisible wall and being pulled backwards to a spot I was in earlier it doesnt event relate to regional boundaries although Ive notice flying seems to be getting harder too. _____________________

on average every 10 steps...'yank back'
my conover performance metre gives the region a 'great' reading. I think this is a new problem - or relatively new. _____________________
