lol, I donated an even more paltry 275m, which is the majority of my aforementioned group bonus.

Out of interest, if a private island was in a group, could the owner donate 10% of his 65,536 m2?
Yes.

No. You don't need tier for a private island.

If your group would own a mainland sim, you could donate 6000-something sq of tier.

I certaily didn't feel like that at all.
The group is owned by us all i think, so it shouldn't be up to one or two people to support all the tier needed etc.

I was just asking and I certainly didn't mean to insinuate anyone is being forced to do this.

Thanks

Come to think of it... (Because it had been on my mind) I had been wondering how the Hangout functions and would like to contribute to the tier, as I get quite a bit out of it.

So the Forum Cartel Hangout is group owned and supported, from what I understand, and contributions to keep it in existence are encouraged, but not a requirement to be a member of the group.

Yes, yes, and yes.

just to be clear, tier is not how much land you have, it's how much land you're *allowed* to have. it's called tier because it's available in levels, each one double the one before it. a premium account comes with 512 already, and you can start getting additional tier at 512, then 1024, 2048, 4096, etc.

owning land is something separate. you can own land up to the amount of tier you have. if you have your original 512 plus 1024m of tier, you can own up to 1536m of land. groups can own tier just like people, but it comes from donations from members. let's say you find an odd size plot, say 1300m. then you have 236m of unused tier. this can be donated to a group as previously described so the group can own 236m of additional land, above what the others have donated.

with a large group, every little bit helps because it adds up.

I've not heard of a club, residence or any other doing this before now.
Just FYI, I've done this several times for different groups and enterprises with which I've been in some way associated. It's pretty common but usually the request goes out to a set of "angels" instead of the whole membership. But all members of the Cartel are angelic. :)

I have sometimes felt a little frustrated that I was not allowed to contribute something to the Cartel. My land is 4096+512, which comes to exactly 4096 tier because of the 512 being tier free. There is nothing for me to donate. And you guys won't take funds. I mean even NCI has a subtle donation sign thingabob.

I don't physically visit the Hangout much, but that doesn't mean I don't enjoy the group IM's and announcements. I suppose I could just buy more land!

Hey, now I see the nefarious plot! :p

i have just yesterday fulfilled my "all I can buy before raising tier" quota. :D (which means i can't buy Eloras land unless i want to raise my tier. anything's a possiblity)

but if i find myself bumping up to the next level  i will surely be able to donate tier until i earn (or buy) enough L$ to fill that up too.

PRIMS! i need MORE prims! me thinks a whole sim wouldn't give me enough prims. i'd need two sims at minimum. LOL but i have a HOUSE! a home! WOOT!

Put your land in a group and reap that sweet sweet 10% bonus.

I've not heard of a club, residence or any other doing this before now. I would imagine this was and is discussed with group members before joining this place. While it's not too bad an idea wouldn't people think they were being forced to pony up cash with notices such as the one described by the opening poster?

As far as it being required no, I am member and I have never donated.
People in forum got together and contributed because they wanted to when the group began.
It was all voluntary.

Tier is the easiest thig to contribute as it usually cost you nothing. Donating left over tier can also be seen as getting a share in free land.

Money is the next easy thing to donate -- at least for me it is. I can always just click a couple of buttons and get more.

If you really want to contribute -- and this applies to any group you belong to -- the most valuable resource to give is time.

So says the guy who has not been to the hangout for over 30 minutes in at least a couple of weeks :(

Just to be very clear, the Hangout requires no cash for ongoing costs ... all of its land has been purchased. So, therefore, no donation box.

Yosef is right, at this point if you have no tier to give, the best thing to give is time. Organizing shopping outings or parties, etc. Or just go there and answer a few questions for anyone new to SL who stops by.

Or, if you are an experienced landowner, stop by and try to figure out why folks sometimes complain about it being laggy. Perhaps there is something about the build, or perhaps a neighbor's build/activities?

Yes, I'm really curious to know why it seems more laggy to some, and not to others. Is it really very bad? How long does it take for (general) you to rez there? If there is something we can do about that, it would be nice - especially for 'new' arrivals to SL...

I very seldom ever see any lag there. The last really game stopping lag I had was at the NYE party. Even rezzing doesn't seem to far off normal for me.

The rezzing just seems slow when everyone sees you on their mystitools and are greeting you before you can even move.... :p

So did the tier buffer get built back up? I meant to check it out last night but forgot. I've got 512 that can be donated if it's still needed. And I'll try to get back and clean up any left over Easter eggs before they start to stink too bad.

Yes, the buffer is built back up. Thank everyone who donated. It is greatly appreciated by all.

The land was all paid for through membership donations, and thanks to tier donations, there are no "property taxes". There are no imediate cash needs I believe, usually when an event is run sometimes members will donate, or Chris and I throw in Lindens. But as always, no donation of any type is required and all that are made are greatly appreciated. Since i am no longer Premium and have no tier to donate, you are all doing more for the group than I am.

I do nothing for the group but look cute.:) I am a land whore, every last bit of my tier is used.:o
