Why? Does that name show up elsewhere?

WoW.
Leeroy is famous for f'ing up a raid by running in and pulling all the mobs before the group was ready, screaming "LEEROY JENKINS" while being video taped. I've heard a lot of people say the whole thing was staged as a joke, I dunno, it was quite some time ago. But if you watched the youtube vid, you might have seen related vids, for example a Jeapordy question about it, and a TV commercial using it.

WoW now has an achievement you can get by pulling all the whelps (baby dragons) at once and killing them and not dying, if you are in a group that does it, you get to have the last name "Jenkins". Whether it was real or it was staged, it definitely earned made old Leeroy famous :P

edit: changed 'frapsed' to 'video taped' :P

I was pretty happy to get "Stickfigure" for my alt's last name. It's perfect for an alt that exists only for testing.

I like "Rootcreeper." How about Ivy Rootcreeper as a name? That is actually pretty cool, especially for someone in a RP sim as a healer or something.

Hmmm....wonder if anyone has taken it yet. I'll have to check when I next log in :)

And what about Idlehands Idlemind? That is kind of funny!

Tonight I saw two surnames I'd never seen before. The names belonged to newbies, so I assume they are brand new to circulation. And they were two very negative surnames.

Rootcreeper
Idlemind

Past surnames have sounded forced or made up from a random draw of letters. But these are the first names I've seen that make the statement: I hate myself.

Are the Lindens using new surnames as a (not-so) subltle way of expressing their distain for lowly, non-corporate residents (everyone who didn't pay extra for a custom name)?

What names are next for circulation? Maybe:

Pondscum
Stoopidhead
Fme

3Ring Rootcreeper will be applicable in about a day! :D

Ya, I always pictured either the "Knight" imagery, or even "as referring to, well, "recreation." But different things to different people, I suppose. Sort of like the issue over the "Rockspider" last name ending up being a bad slang in Australia.

(Imagine what it must be to have the last name "Hitler" today in RL. Or be from the "Adams" family? Hmm...)

The only time I encountered the term, before meeting Trout, was a line in a story: "Yield thee, recreant knight!" So the medieval image is certainly appropriate.

The actual definition, though, is what bugs Trout. It means "forsworn", a knight who breaks his vows.

There was the surname 'Electricteeth' around the time I joined. That's about as bizzarre as you can get, I reckon.

I'd guess that Namer Linden was a fan of the Muppets. The Muppet band is called "Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem".
