Tonight I saw two surnames I'd never seen before. The names belonged to newbies, so I assume they are brand new to circulation. And they were two very negative surnames.
Rootcreeper Idlemind
Past surnames have sounded forced or made up from a random draw of letters. But these are the first names I've seen that make the statement: I hate myself.
Are the Lindens using new surnames as a (not-so) subltle way of expressing their distain for lowly, non-corporate residents (everyone who didn't pay extra for a custom name)?
What names are next for circulation? Maybe:
Pondscum Stoopidhead Fme

"Pondscum" and "Stoopidhead" would probably be very popular; "Fme" would probably not be so popular because the Stoopidhead Pondscum wouldn't be able to figure it out.

Idlemind is not so bad..........I think I could come up with a good first name to go with it. Rootcreeper.........that's a tough one. Looks like LL got hold of an old copy of that software that you used to see on silly sites where you type in your real name and it returns some crazy combination to come up with a different name. I forget the name of that software.......it's been years since I saw it. I wouldn't worry too much about it...........I doubt it's a slam to residents. Just some Linden who ran out of ideas for new names. Mie Idlemind..........perfect for me. LOL

I like both of these names.
Idlemind would work for somebody who came here to relax, or perhaps even somebody into meditation.
Rootcreeper is a dark, earthy name. It would be a great name for a witch or for dark RP.

In addition the starting locale is a recreation of Trinity College in Dublin. Since I've been there RL, I enjoyed that instead of being sent to Orientation Island, then Help Island, then some weird Hub. (Do OI and Help Island still exist?)

Never mind, it'll soon be time for another Rugby World Cup and they'll choose a further bunch of surnames that will make me laugh when I see how they are used.
Pep (Or mabe they'll use players from the soccer World Cup this time.)

From: Marianne McCann Well, we already had "Recreant" I never saw a problem with Recreant. Trout was a bit blue when he had to dig for a meaning that he didn't like. His name always raised an image of a knight in armour in my mind., and I said so at the time. Someone even did a coat of arms for him in the thread. As for names that might appear yucky to some languages, they could well be ideal for role players.

There are a few names like Leeeroy and Huxxley that set off my inner spell-check.
and names that are made for jokes, like Qissentel.

From: Sling Trebuchet I never saw a problem with Recreant. Trout was a bit blue when he had to dig for a meaning that he didn't like. Ya, I always pictured either the "Knight" imagery, or even "as referring to, well, "recreation." But different things to different people, I suppose. Sort of like the issue over the "Rockspider" last name ending up being a bad slang in Australia. (Imagine what it must be to have the last name "Hitler" today in RL. Or be from the "Adams" family? Hmm...)

Why not? I was about to. Just googling what you wrote is enough. That site lists all of the names ever issued by SL, lists the ones that are available now, and gives links to regapi sites where you can go get them.
