Awesome -- All of the stuff in my inventory is for girl noobs, except for a few LMs to general newbie freebie places, and I can never remember any of the names when I am not inworld.

There's all sorts of places to grab free goodies to help upgrade your avatar and give you a more independent, unique look. You can go into the search menu, and type in 'freebies' and many many options will come up that you can explore.
Free Dove is one......The Gnube shop is another......Sarah Nerds freebie warehouse.....basically there's tons of places that offer free stuff, and places that offer free gifts to avatars 30 days old or under. So....your best bet is to just start exploring! Also, the Forum Hangout in-world usually has some goodies for free.

I had a huge thread running for male clothing in this forum somewhere. It's in there somewhere (Male Avatar Clothes or something like that). Hundreds of links to clothing. If you find it post a link...I can't find it anymore and I need to upgrade! skratch - IM me in world and we can compare notes.

You migth want to do the Make Him Over Hunt. It's sort of like a scavenger hunt for men. There a hidden prize at 151 stores. You have to look around the store and find the prize at each store. They are clothes, skins, shapes and accessories. If you can wait until tonight I will IM you with the info, or maybe someone else that is on-line now could drop it on him?

Oh and forum rule #1, ignore Pep. He's not helpful.

Alternatively, just get yourself "equipped" and tp over to Zendra, the new Adult Only continent. It is compulsory to walk around naked there (get yourself an "attachment" first or you will look silly; the bigger the better!) so you won't need any clothes.

If he was nice about spelling and grammar help he would have typed 'Zindra' and not 'Zendra'. Poor skratch will be searching fruitlessly for Zendra and be so disappointed not to find it.

You didn't say whether you want to spend money. If you can spend a few thousand linden, go to MADesigns (http://slurl.com/secondlife/Kmadd%20Enterprise/190/90/25/) and pick a shape. They come with style cards so you can get the hair, eyes, and skin that go with it. (The shapes don't cost the thousands, it's the whole business that does, including clothes.)

I didn't see it mentioned here- don't forget going to XStreetSL. Plenty of freebies there. Quite a few options to let you limit or order your search results based on being free or lowest-price first.

Now that's what I call being helpful.

It's a good idea to have someone with you so you can get feedback on your look.

Pick somebody who is put together well.

The reason I suggest this is that it's easier to decide in two. You say, "Do think this..." and the other person says, "No" and you say "I thought so." Otherwise you look and look and can't figure whether it looks bad.

I don't know how extroverted or gregarious you are, but if you see a woman with a striking avatar you might ask if she'd mind lending her opinion as you make yourself over.

And I highly recommend against spending any money in your first 2-4 weeks -- until you get a better idea of what SL is like, whether or not you will stay, and ultimately what you want your image here to be.
