Resident Profiles - The My Notes Tab

Most of you probably know about the "my notes" tab feature on a resident's profile. You can enter information about another AV, up to 1022 characters, which only you can see.

I was at a club recently with one of my friends and while in a private IM, I said that one person seemed vaguely familiar but couldn't recall where I had seen them. She thought she had too and said oh let me check if I wrote anything down in their notes tab. I rarely use this feature at all but it's probably a underutilized feature for most folks and something I should use more.

Some interesting ways of using it that I thought might be useful are things like, real life info shared such as RL names, birthdays, email addresses etc. From a business perspective, especially if you have a busy one, is to use it for customer queries of shady people that seem to have multiple requests for failed deliveries, transaction #s, summaries of agreements, or noting those that have been problematic in the past.

So do you guys use the my notes tab on a regular basis and if so, what types of information do you use it for?

Yes I do. I keep the resident's UUID there in case I need to set up an automatic payment thingy. I also use it for residents who produce SL magazines; I keep advertising rates and deadlines there. Very handy.

I do- for RL info- as i am notorious about forgetting even my own b-day let alone others! For SL, customers sometimes ask for particular things- handy way to kow who wants what.

I make a note if a person is a jackass.

I use it a little, I would use it more if I could search on it.

I use this tab quite frequently in SL. I meet a lot of people in SL, and many whom I friend. I use this tab to help jog my memory about this person when I want to keep in touch or touch base with the person. I'm on the Help Islands quite often and also offer my friendship if a new member has questions outside of the HIs. The "My Notes" helps me remember when or where I've met them to help re-greet them without letting them know I almost forgot who they were. *giggles* Hey, it happens!

Almost since the beginning that I use it. Most of them (that tab) have the date and place I knew the Avatar, then some RL details that I might know: place of living, RL-age, birthday date even favorite perfume lol

I even use my own tab to put some things I want to remember without making a note, like name of a shop, an avatar to contact and so on... it's a very useful tab

I used my own notes tab for things I want to have on hand quickly and don't want to search for a note card (if it loads that is!)

I keep notes on where I first met the resident, including any pertinent bits of information, such as personal SL and/or RL history, likes/dislikes, birthday (if known)...that sort of thing.

Oh!! Good idea!

One thing I use the My Notes tab for is to identify people who are current or former clients - people who have in the past at least asked me to bid on custom work.

I also use the tab to keep track of "relationships" between avatars - like who is supposed to be whose daughter, son, parents, submissives, master or mistress, etc. We only have basic info on a single "Partner" but many people have far more complex relations with their intimate circle of friends.

Sometimes I just make an entry for when and where I met the person, and who introduced us, or how we got to know each other.

This tab is one place I check when I have to weed down my Friends list. If I have no info in the tab, they are likely to just be a casual aaccquaintance. If they have info there, it makes it more likely I'll keep them on my list.

I write down where they live in case I want to stalk them later

As an admin-type at a high-traffic club, I usually use it to keep track of people I booted or warned.. That and birthdays and such for friends.

I meet a lot of people, and use the Notes section to remind myself of the circumstances and date.
The date is handy for searching chat logs when the converstaion was mostly in IM.

I also note interests and queries they may have had that I was able to help with at the time.


Ditto on using the Notes of my own profile to provide one-click access to useful information that is difficult to remember accurately.

Definitely some great and interesting uses for the my notes tab. I particularly like using the tab on your own profile for stuff that I tend to write down on a notecard in my inventory.

I use the My Notes all the time on other residents profiles. I deal with 100ds of people a day , thousands per week.. Keeping notes in their profile helps me remember last conversations. Along with logging chats and enabling last conversation with user in private chat.
Recently I had a hard drive failure and lost all my logs. Using thier "My Notes" helped me stay up to date with residents I have contact with

Also I use the My Notes for problem residents I have had abuse issues with in the past..

For using "My Notes " on my own profile I keep links to streams and other things I need to quickly access and notecards are not loading.. but i sure do remember the days those notes used to get wiped out when asset servers were freaked out and not working right

I, too, have used that Tab since the beginning. I only keep notes if the person is a close friend - so things like birthdays, where they live in RL, if they have kids, things that they like (if I need to buy them a gift at some point), their fav store, sometimes if they say something particularly brilliant I'd like to remind them of later on.

My own notes tab - I keep notes on where I saw something I may be looking for later, URLs to the fashion blogs I like to peruse in my spare time, interesting books, music urls, places, stores, items, or creators that I want to further investigate.

This area is also way too small.. although, it does force me to clear it out every so often by doing some of those things before I move them out of that Tab. It would be great if we could create other Tabs there too... however, I'm dreaming now, aren't I?

When I have a particularly good or bad experience with someone I put down comments in there.

Its very helpful as despite my outgoing SL presence, I am very cautious about approving friend requests or sending out friend requests (I've only ever sent 1 out).

So the notes let me know if, when I met that person last, I liked them, and if that keeps up, I'll send them my card - if it still keeps up, then I'll think about friending.

I have yet to find reason to leave a negative comment. When I get bugged by someone I usually TP out. But if they're in one of my regular hangouts, I'll just go a little quiet and see how others react to them. So far, that's led me to realize that a person who I thought was hassling another regular was in fact a friend and the two were sharing an inside joke about griefers in a public way... Before I'd accidentally jumped in and put my foot in my mouth. I'm not one to play up routines like that, but at least I managed to find out it was a joke in time.
- The notes tab would then be helpful for me to note that that person has that kind of sense of humor, and not to get offended if I ever become the target, but to instead play along (or IM and tell them I'm not in the mood at the moment).

I can sometimes forget to download my transaction history so I was just thinking now that I might start noting transaction details for some of the more expensive things I might buy in the creator's profile in case SL eats something or if I have an issue that requires proof of purchase down the road and can't find the original details.

I have my own notes tab filled with my AV key, a list of my alts and their keys, and some come-and-go details that I put in my main profile once in a while. (^_^)

As for other people, I put RL information as I learn it such as birthdays and contact info. For some, I simply put "retard". Since I don't mute, I at least get a clue that I've dealt with the bugger before. =^-^=

I use My Notes as an aid to role play. I can keep track of what I know in character about a person. That way I don't refer to them by the wrong name (since in role play they may call themselves something completely different from their actual avatar name). On Erie Isle, you can read someone's combat meter information, but unless you know what the person is from interacting with them in character, you can't use that information.

Before someone suggested this to me I was trying to keep track of everyone on a separate spreadsheet - ugh!

And as an aside, if you are role playing with me on Erie Isle, tell me right away what to call you. Otherwise I have to refer to you as that nice lady with the jerky treats and it takes too long to type everything out. My name is printed on my collar so anyone can read it in character.

i log any customer service contact there, any known alts, home location, partners, that sort of thing.
i pretty much use it as a dossier, logging anything i want to be able to refer to later.
