Gabriele. It's the norm all over forums to include that something is an opnion when it is. Nobody ever includes that something is a fact. I'm sorry, but that's the way forums are.

If that were really the case then would have been even more wrong on so many more posts. It is clear you are unwilling to listen, fair enough - I give up.

I'm sorry, but when something is an opinion, it's normal in forums to indicate it. Otherwise it's taken as the person is posting it as fact. What else can I say? It's just the way it is.

You prove that it's not. There are plenty of posts written by me that include "imo" and such. In fact you quoted one - "I have no doubt that ...".

She means prove that most don't automaticly take what is posted as opinion.

In the 15yrs I've been online starting with BBS to the net... it's always been considered opinon till they prove it to be fact.

Whatever, but it would be unwise to stick to the idea that everything should be taken as an opinion unless stated otherwise, because it's simply not the way that forums are.

nope, you are talking about making an assumption everything posted in forum is meant as fact instead of opinion or belief of the poster.

A good example is most of your posts including that one.

That seems to be an unsupportable assertion.

The average Forums Poster has a poor understanding of the concept of sourcing, not that they bother anyway!

Unless you have never done anything scholarly you would remember that even EXPERTS rely on sourcing when stating anything resembling "Facts."

Realistically the most anyone does on a forum is prove their *POINT*

But a *POINT* is by definition an opinion.

Proving a point just means that opinion has a reasonable amount of convincing weight.

Which brings us full circle to where I started today. That we had to have all this over something this trivial shows how impossible it is to discuss real issues here with those who feel otherwise.
Go figure

Even Blogs are just opinions. But people spend more time preparing those in general than forums posts.

Op-Eds ---- opinions of people who may actually have credentials

Editorials --- opinions of people who edit newspapers/magazines

Heck even News Articles aren't always purely factual. They have to be checked and verified.


I am at a loss. I think some of my old college professors would have a stroke if I tried to suggest a forums post was intended to be a factual source.

You don't get very many facts on the internet. The quality is all over the map.

Compared to actual professional publications, the level of scholarship on the internet is shoddy at best.

back to the subject...i was searching for good locations to rent a store so tried finding people on the map...hahahaha........
Apart from the usual sex mall suspects new locations with heaps of dots became a game of 'find the skybox' and 'cheat the system trying to prevent me seeing it'...i returned to my sim with my lindens still in my pocket...
At least popular places did have people tping in and the listings changed...the replacement Showcase is great for pretty places but is open to abuse by plugging the 'good causes' and maybe who pays most and hasn't changed for ages.

I've also seen ads for traffic robots at some very high cost per av...presumably run by some heavy duty computer network as the average home user would crash after trying to run 3 av's.

If LL wont kill the robots then they should at least kill the hidden skybox ones so that the 'traffic' is visible and potential renters realise they are buying into a camping/robot sim and not a genuine customer base.

I did report a big single store player that attracted custom using a robot hive...there was then great difficulty in finding your way out of the store. When i found the skybox of 'camping' i got in via cam but very soon had my computer crashed by a script in use that ate my memory..this has never happened elsewhere and to prove it i repeated the exercise and the same thing happened despite this time facing my camera at a blank wall. My report was never fully investigated and even worse the store then appeared in Showcase....go figure....

And just think... each and every one of them gets 10 Picks!!
