I was part of the forum cartel ages ago - but at the time was getting way to many notices from several groups - could I pretty please get another invite.... *sad eyes* ?
One group I loved but could not stand all the notices was a group with many sellers in it - they would send notices about stores and freebies. I had to leave... running screaming really. I love the info - if they could maybe to say only 4 a day, would be great.

its the notices i find annoying. a limited time might be a good idea, but there are so many in the group, and I don't have a say, i don't want to request it and end up annoying some of the posters because they are on at that time. It is a well known group, but it is not the cartel. i love the group too much to even consider leaving lol. and closing cartel group im usually works. it actually gets annoying, because i will close it by accident, and then i miss everything until I either relog or start chat again, by which time i say something stupid in an ongoing conversation lol.

So , next time you log into The Platform That Shall Not Be Named, which by the way is a registered trademark of The Company That Shall Not Be Named, you can join. Or send Chris a note. He loves getting naughty things in the mail.

when i close group IM, it just pops back up with the next posting by someone.
i don't mind the IM's as much because i can ignore the blinking yellow button (for a little while) but the blue pop-ups drive me nuts.

Claire, try this: pull up the group info, re-click the box for group notices and click apply, then unclick it and click apply, then click refresh, then click ok -- that seemed to do it for me.

It's been broken for many, many months though (since the last time they "fixed" groups actually). Like so many things it worked perfectly until they went in to "fix" things. The only thing that still consistently works is not receiving group notices in IM with it unchecked. When you're in-world you might get none, you might get some (that's the case for me) or all of them.

You could try convincing the group owner to create a "rank" that doesn't "receive group notices"... that might be an option, depending on the group.

From: 3Ring Binder the biggest reason i left the cartel group was because of the incessant IM's and notices. i rejoiined, but i still find it to be quite overused. And I bet they're happy notices too.

Yea there are some real annoyances with groups lately. Notices still showing up when disabled, and group chat sessions having errors and kicking you out of them. I just wanna scream sometimes.

It's that damn Forum Cartel Group Hmm, it is a little heavy on the notices at times, perhaps advertising should be kept to IM instead of notices unless they are pretty big important notices. IM, I don't mind as I leave the forum group open just to keep track of whats happening and it doesn't bother me, it's a social chatting group anyway

advertising should not come from social groupings at all. i think that's a misuse of the group as a whole. party announcements, teaching classes and things like that are the only things that social group notices should be used for.

From: Ray Musketeer As a builder just thought I would mention this since some of taken my leaving of a group as not liking them or rejecting their friendships.
I use control "z". For the non-builder this is a technique that returns a prim to a prior position. This is useful in many ways like when dragging a copy the copy retains the memory of the original position and a quick control z returns it to the original prims position.
Once I answer an IM or a chat all memory is lost. The memory is not just one position or prim and can get quite deep and losing this ability in the middle of a build can cause a few problems.
I could turn off notices, however I also actively run a business and a Free Public Yard Sale. So I need to be able to quickly respond to certain situations so not a comfortable option to turn off notices.
I could restrain from answering any IM's and or chats and that creates other issues of appearing rude or non-responses and often I will find myself answering and lose my positions.
So, I join very few groups or leave them if I find to many Im's generated. Groups with builders need to be aware of this. We create content and are not isolationists though it may appear so at times. QFT!!!!! I recently disbanded a group - which had in it's 4 months or so useable lifespan perhaps 3 notices total sent out. The last one was "I am shutting this group, if you are booted please don't take it personally." You'd have thought I'd gone round their granny's place and slapped her dog. The wailing! The drama! Of course all the people concerned had turned off group notices on joining as it is their standard practice. I usually leave them open a few days ... then if the announcements get too much I leave. I really hated leaving the group for Bruges as I liked the place, however it simply got too much to handle - like Claire, turning off Recieve Notice made not a whit of difference.

Wish you could turn off group IMs. Esp when you get, appropos of nothing, an IM which then causes an error and which you can't shut till someone else posts and causes an error ... naming no groups in particular for being traffic heavy (Oh ok then - for you fellow suffering Mentals )
