I am part of a group that sometimes can send out 20+ notices a day. I am beginning to get fed up of the masses of notices, so decided to turn it off. I went into group info, and unchecked 'receive group notices' but it didn't work. I am still receiving loads of them, and they are capping my ims. i really want to turn this off, they are capping my ims, and they are being sent to my e-mail. Its as bad as spam! lol. I really want to stay in the group, but these notices are annoying me. Is there anything I forgot to do? How do I stop them?

The only way to shut it off is quit the group. Unless you can talk to the group and convince them to reduce the number of notices. I have left many groups for this very reason.

Though I have not tried disabling notices, I would think this just disables the POP Up notices in the top corner. Not the IMs, though I may be wrong.

*sigh* thats not good news. Its not a group that can cut down at all, and neither would I want them to do. I just wanted to be able to get to the notices by the group info only. Guess I'll leave it in a bit....after i wade through all of the ones waiting for me when i log on lol.

Are you receive group notices or group IM's? As for IM's, checking the box does not stop them from coming in. Group notices in the blue drop down box are suppose to stop after you check the box but it hasn't worked for me in a long time. I've been told it's completely out of order, but can't remember if that was an official post or rumor. All I know is it's useless to me. I had to drop some groups because of it that I didn't want to.

i think Claire may be referring to a well known and very large group that i left as well. while the pop ups are informative and great(freebies yaaaay) after a while they can get annoying. im wondering myself if there is a way to have the group send them at certain times. ie you can only send them during this time and stop sending them after this time.

the biggest reason i left the cartel group was because of the incessant IM's and notices. i rejoiined, but i still find it to be quite overused.

Turning them off did stop mine from going from IM to email. You still get the blue pop'ups, but that's it.

I always thought the purpose of joining a group WAS to get notices and have IM conversations with like minded people? Unless it is strictly a sales group for new products...

As a builder just thought I would mention this since some of taken my leaving of a group as not liking them or rejecting their friendships.
I use control "z". For the non-builder this is a technique that returns a prim to a prior position. This is useful in many ways like when dragging a copy the copy retains the memory of the original position and a quick control z returns it to the original prims position.
Once I answer an IM or a chat all memory is lost. The memory is not just one position or prim and can get quite deep and losing this ability in the middle of a build can cause a few problems.
I could turn off notices, however I also actively run a business and a Free Public Yard Sale. So I need to be able to quickly respond to certain situations so not a comfortable option to turn off notices.
I could restrain from answering any IM's and or chats and that creates other issues of appearing rude or non-responses and often I will find myself answering and lose my positions.
So, I join very few groups or leave them if I find to many Im's generated. Groups with builders need to be aware of this. We create content and are not isolationists though it may appear so at times.

Sometimes you just can't win. You chatter on out here and are told to take it inworld. You take it inworld and are told to go play in traffic. How is any self respecting clique supposed to operate that way?

I don't find the Forum Cartel notices all that annoying. A little bit, but clicking the ignore button where warranted is an awfully easy cure. If it gets much worse, thenyeah, but until then, there are a lot of worse problems on SL.

If you are busy and people are talking in group IM,you can just close it and they shut up.
