there are filters in the inventory that will do this already.
These filters are basic and I still have trouble finding things, I suppose searching through 20k items..... its hard for anyone.

I want "smart folders" like iTunes smart playlists instead of the current filters.
And I want to be able to drag these "smart folders" as well as regular folders into new tabs. So I can have a tab like "old HUDS" with entries like: [Name starts with] [Flight Feather___] AND [Item was created] [At least] [30 days ago] AND [Top] [folder of Item] [Is not] [Archive] _____________________

No... really I was just looking to see if people felt the same way about inventory as I do, and if anyone thought it would be helpful/worthwhile to be able to filter by clothing type. I'd like that. _____________________

I would love to see a couple of things implemented into the inventory:
1. A filter that can differentiate between a BOX and and OBJECT (I know, both are basically prims, but there should be SOME way in the world of digitized thinking and scripting to tell the difference) 2. A way to box folders - and to top that - automatically name the box the name of the folder. 3. A "duplicate search" along the lines of programs used for checking for duplicate files/pictures on HD. Show the duplicates, and let you decide if/which ones you want to delete. 4. The possibility to see the properties of an object right in the inv window - along the line of the desktop of the operating system of the compy. 5. The possibility to maybe archive. I think something along that line is being conjured for the database in general - putting "unused for such and such a time" on a different server than the "used" stuff. I would like to be able to do that manually. Along the line of "putting stuff in boxes for safe keeping". If I could put 75% of my inv into "the attic" and only the things I am using regularly are in my "normal" inventory would load into my cache when I am online, my inv would prob not be so "heavy" on the dataload. 6. Being able to see if an animation were a pose or an actual animation. 7. Being able to tell where the set attach point is set for a prim - i.e. skirt on stomach, pelvis, etc. OK - I'm done "dreaming" for today. |

I knew I had been in SL too long and my inventory had gotten completely out of hand when I was seriously considering an alt just so I could find things in inventory.

Oh, oh, OH! And by creator!!! I would LOVE to be able to search/sort/filter/whatever by whomever created something. And I want an UNDO for when I accidentally move something and have absolutely no clue where my mouse let go. There are times when I mean to scroll, but get the mouse actually in the inventory window and end up clicking on something and moving it - sometimes never to be found again. And while we are filtering on types of clothing, I want to see just skins or just shapes or just bald caps/hairs. Sometimes I do not get things sorted right - usually because of the aforementioned goof move without an undo function. _____________________

Other filters I'd like, of course, would be "created by", "type of clothing", basically anything you can see in "properties". _____________________

One thing this thread brought to mind later, is a great tip for when moving stuff in inventory... You know how folders sudenly pop open when you drag things around over them?
You can slow that down so the little triangle next to the folder rotates slower and the folder doesn't open unless you want it to. ![]() In DebugSettings simply change FolderAutoOpenDelay to 2 instead! I've found this helps make it much easier to work with inventory and drop things where I want them... ![]() _____________________

Yeah... I get that some people spend a ton of time organizing their inventory by hand... but a lot of us don't. I know how to open extra windows and put things into folders... I just choose to spend my time doing other(more fun) things. I guess I'm advocating better tools for us lazy people. Being one that finds organizing inventory great fun...I *still* wish there was a way I could do this for others...be a great business. I already have one person who said they wish I could do that for them...lol. I apologize if this has been said already as I haven't read the entire thread...but someone on another inventory thread mentioned the Hippo Inventory organizer (http://www.xstreetsl.com/modules.php?name=Marketplace&file=item&ItemID=791598) and really likes it for finding inventory items quickly. I keep meaning to have a look at it. I think there is a demo in the in-world store. That might help a bit. _____________________

and I'd like a pony and a million dollars and world peace
but I'll settle for an inventory interface that doesn't take 10 minutes to load. ALL of the things you're suggesting would either add strain to the asset cluster, or just simply slow down all inventory actions. Those of us with low-end computers have enough issues already thanks. Just opening a second inventory window crashes me half the time, and you want TABS? BRILLIANT My inventory is neat an tidy, because I split stuff into subfolders when I get it, rather than piling everything to the main Clothing and Object folders and then going "OH GOD I CAN'T FIND ANYTHING WHY DID YOU DO THIS LINDEN LABS" a month later. |

ALL of the things you're suggesting would either add strain to the asset cluster, or just simply slow down all inventory actions. And, yes, I want tabs, so you don't need to open a second inventory window and create a new inventory structure, they wouldn't slow you down any more than clicking "recent items" slows you down. _____________________

if you want to just seperate jackets here is what you do..make a new folder and name it jackets..then open another window up. now you have two inventory windows open..in one type in the search JACKET now all you have to do is drag them all.. the jackets that show up drag into the jacket folder in the other inventory window Plus, moving all the no-copy jackets from the folders where they are to somewhere else would remove them from the outfits they are part of. _____________________
