In the forums it *must* be the last posts by Jig and Avawyn.
Pep (What? You mean they weren't their last posts?)

Great thread! Here are my answers.
RL: Without question, Election Night. Seriously, my faith in humanity was restored.
SL: Proving there's life after Electric Sheep. At this time last year, there were around 35 of us or so who were feeling pretty miserable, having just been laid off from one of the coolest jobs on Earth. But I'm pleased to say I've spent this year doing exactly the same thing, except I haven't had to answer to anyone but myself. I picked up my first freelance gig almost immediately, and I've been working pretty steadily since (knock on wood). I think the longest I've gone between jobs this year is three or four weeks, tops. "Market changed," my arse!

From: Chris Norse Never happen as long as anyone has collective power over anyone else. Didn't you find it refreshing and heartening that Obama's new chief of staff has actually written in favor of slavery as a program for the current government? Isn't 2 years of mandatory civil service more like indentured servitude? Couldn't it actually be a good opportunity for young people without many other prospects to get out in the world and learn some job skills and self reliance? All the men my age had to serve in the military for two years when they turned 18. Considering the way some privileged people got out of it while the others were sent to risk their lives in the Viet Nam debacle I was pretty much against that draft. But I've known quite a few people who have served in the Peace Corps and AmeriCorps and they all say it was one of the best and most important experiences of their live. Having worked with teenagers for a number of years I think this kind of service would be good for most young people. But I really don't think you have to worry about it becoming compulsory any time in the near future.

From: Belle Loll In RL...the day my best friend had her 1st year check after her fight with breast cancer ....and being told there was no sign the cancer has returned.
These stories of survivors really are inspiring. You should tell your friend both my mother and my sister survived breast cancer - my mother was cancer free for decades and it never returned. There have been great advances in this field. Ladies - you can beat this.

RL: Has to be the moment I walked (finally) through the wrong arrivals gate at OHare Airport with a non-functional mobile phone, no change and a card which phones wouldn't accept ... ok, well it came a few minutes later when I finally was face to face with my partner and then a little while later when I realised I got on far BETTER with him offline (which says something when you consider we've been together here for well over a year).
Which is to say, I never would have met anyone else from SL in this way and the journey to get on that plane was a long one which has made me realise exactly how much I can do.
In SL? I'm afraid for me it still has to be the way the Openspace issue was handled. As to what it inspired, well I am just not commenting on any policies any more, just made sure my fiscal involvement is minimal whilst having what it is that I personally want and need.

From: Kaimi Kyomoon Isn't 2 years of mandatory civil service more like indentured servitude? . You are being held against your will, having your resources used in a matter other than which you would choose, sounds like slavery to me. Who owns you? You or some mindless government drone?
