What do you tell people?

I've been wondering for a while, since my SL business is my RL job, how best to explain it to people? You know, when you're at a party and someone asks you what you do. I do try to tell them, but even to me it sounds completely mad. Is there a way to describe it without seeming a total geek?

Just say you create content for a virtual world online and leave it at that. That sounds normal to me.

oh blimey, I'm sorry, that was my website but I never had time to update it! I think it's probably gone forever now. Nice things in the store tho!

"I make and sell virtual furniture". Then they ask what I'm talking about, so I explain it. Then they marvel that people buy virtual furniture for their virtual homes, and I get non-virtual money out of it. I'm not sure that they quite grasp it though, but I've never felt odd explaining it.

One guy here is waiting for me to call it a day, so he can take over the business. A couple of months ago, I told him I was packing it in, and his face was a picture. In just one immediate expression, and without words, he said, "Don't pack it in, for goodness sakes. Let me have it instead."

I tell people "I'm a content creator for on-line virtual worlds - massively multiplayer games and the like. Most of what I di is creating virtual architecture and landscaping for clients. The buildings and grounds around the buildings hwere people can inteact via the Internet ina 3D environment."

Now what gets funny is that since "Fox and Ground Construction Company" is registered to me in the real world as a business name, occasionally I get inquiries from people who never went to my website, but just found my name in County business registration databases, and they are seeking to employ me for real-world remodeling, construction or landscaping!

Yes I know about THAT word, but it would give most people a recognizable frame of reference. It wouldn't make their eyes glaze over immediately. Then if you wanted to go further you could.
