Hold on guys this is a temporary measure. Maybe it's because I've been the other side of the fence but a few hours of inconvenience is not the end of the world, if this was permanent I'd be wailing and gnashing with you but it's a minor issue in the bigger scheme.

Depressing. It's LL's alternative to throttling logins.

Back in the "Load testing done, profiles and such still not working" thread:

So for now, Groups and Friends are going to be turned off at peak times.
It's pretty certain that without a considerable beefing up of servers and bandwidth, the next things are going to be Search and Map.

Question: When is Peak Time not Peak Time?
Answer: When it is no longer Peak Time, because people stay out.

That's a brilliantly short-sighted solution to the issue.

Are you saying - does this mean - that many of our problems could be solved if LL would buy more servers and/or bandwidth?

this is actually acceptable for their customer service as they don`t give a damn about our customers or businesses

I've actually begun - *puts on tin hat* - to think they are trying to get rid of our businesses.

It's all a version of one of my favorite jokes:
_____
A man goes to a tailor to try on a new custom-made suit. The first thing he notices is that the arms are too long.

``No problem,'' says the tailor. ``Just bend them at the elbow and hold them out in front of you. See, now it's fine.''

``But the collar is up around my ears!''

``It's nothing. Just hunch your back up a little... No, a little more... That's it.''

``But I'm stepping on my cuffs!'' the man cries in desperation.

``Nu, bend you knees a little to take up the slack. There you go. Look in the mirror--the suit fits perfectly.''

So, twisted like a pretzel, the man lurches out onto the street. Reba and Florence see him go by.

``Oh, look,'' says Reba, ``that poor man!''

``Yes,'' says Florence, ``but what a beautiful suit.''

_____

Problem is, SL is serious about having this joke as their philosophy.

You don't get it :)

This "temporary" measure is the measure that will be always be put in place any time we get to peak concurrency.
Add to that the already existing stealth "temporary" measures like map being grey.

LL won't reduce the overload by throttling logins.
Their chosen alternative is to throttle services.
The way they seem to be reacting/planning/progressing to the crisis is to throttle everything that does not *directly* bork a money transaction.
Soon they will have to throttle Search.

A year ago, their plan was:

This info was posted on a 3rd party site:

From: someone
I was just talking to Kyle Linden in concierge chat he said the best thing to do is make tickets with the

summary as Supervisor Attention.

Then say our complaints about whats going on in the ticket.

I did it...you should too.

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

I not only logged a ticket, but also logged tickets using every one of my accounts.

That's because higher numbers are GOD and anything and everything else must be sacrificed FIRST before sacrificing HIGHER NUMBERS.

God forbid they should throttle logins so that things actually work; if they did, they wouldn't be able to say "always higher numbers... look, potential investors/buyers!"

And we can't have THAT, now can we?

I dont know what the actual answer is.. I just know LLs response was at best...flaccid.

That's a very good way to put it, and now I know why we still haven't seen the promised blog entry...

...the Lindens are still waiting for their shipment of Lie-agra to come in to firm up their flaccid reasoning.
