How do you use a HUD? I know how to attach them to my avatar, but I have tried several that supposedly do various functions, and clicking on the HUD does not seem to do anything.

if you have it attached, and it's not working, there's something wrong with the HUD

HUDs should attach to your screen, not your avatar...hopefully that's what you meant. You might try reseting the scripts. Drop the HUD on the ground and right-click on it, then go to the the Tools menu up top and choose 'Reset Scripts in Selection.' Once it's finished, take the HUD back into inventory and reattach. If it still doesn't work, you may need to contact the creator.

I have at least two huds that are not compatible with each other. If I load both neither one will work properly. This may be your problen also.

Some HUDs also come in two parts, the HUD and the active element that the HUD controls, so you have to wear both for the HUD to work.
What HUD are you having trouble with? |

In the last when I attach camera hud to center 2 I got a colored dot over my head, but clicking on it did not do anything. I just did it and got a dropdown with a bunch of buttons, but I dont know what to do with them. Maybe the other times I was in a area with too many people
But even here I attached chat range hud and did not see anything Ditto for HUD Blindfold Mark Coffee's HUD does give a colored bar across the screen, but I dont know what it does Ziggy Puff's free hud animation override puts something in corner, but dont know what it does Avatar radar puts up a black box, but what does it do? |

You need to read the instructions for the HUDs.
HUDs do all sorts of different things. HUDs with similar purposes can work in completely different ways. The instructions are often in a notecard in the object's contents. _____________________

I don't know what most of those are for, but the animation overrider is commonly called an AO for short. You need to take off the AO, put it on the ground, and open it. It probably has a notecard INSIDE of it (most HUDS do.) An AO needs to have animations put inside of it; they will over ride the default SL animations like walking, flying, standing, etc with different versions. You would then take the AO back into your inventory and 'wear' it. It might come with a menu in the HUD on the screen that you can use to reload the scripts.

Check your inventory for "Ziggy"
You may have a notecard called ":READ ME FIRST - Ziggy's HUD Animation Overrider" in it. Similarly you may have notecards in your inventory associated with the items that aren't inside the item's contents. One approach to finding how to use an item is to ask the place you got it at. Another would be to ask the creator. If you expect other people to help you with specific items you need to provide enough information to identify them clearly. Mark Coffee's hud, for example - what is it's name? The blindfold HUD - what is the exact name of the object, who is it made by, where did you get it? Are any of these objects in folders? If so is there any useful stuff in the folders they are in? Did any of the objects come from container objects? If so, have you checked the contents of the container objects to see if they have anything useful in them? _____________________

. I just did it and got a dropdown with a bunch of buttons, but I dont know what to do with them. Um... that's what a HUD does. The buttons are for clicking. They do what the button says. |

Also, if you don't have any information at all about an object - are you sure it is supposed to be a HUD?
Maybe you attached an item as a HUD that isn't supposed to be one. _____________________

I am assuming they are HUDs because when I took them into inventory that is the folder they went into
I got them from a number of Freebie places (like on Help Island, and other places) Mark Coffee's HUD is labeled Mark Coffee's HUD ver 1.05C Where do I go to drop them on the ground. I tried a sandbox, Orientation Island Public, and one other place, and was told I could not do it there |

Then new search is interesting.
I put in "Mark Coffee's HUD" in in quotes and got one link to a place said to have it. Unfortunately, once you take the teleport, you still have to find it in a bunch of boxes. ..... Well I wasn't able to find it in the bunch of boxes in the length of time I was willing to spend looking. There's a valuable lesson to be learned by that. I got one of the Mark Coffee HUDs from somone in the Mental Mentors group. So far as I can tell it doesn't do anything. I recompile the scripts and reset the scripts and it still didn't do anything. I took it apart and didn't see any scripts that seemed like the would be doing anything exceedingly wonderful, but keep in mind I am not getting paid so it didn't get an extensive lookover. It may just be so old that it doesn't work anymore. Mine certainly doesn't work anymore - I took it apart without realizing it was no copy. Oh well. ..... hmm, let's try the search thing again..... The Mark Coffee's Hud search page includes a list of objects on the parcel with the locations of the objects. Using that I found the object and got another copy. There's a lesson to be learned from that. Here's what it looks like: ![]() This one also doesn't appear to do anything. _____________________

Lord that HUD Suzanne showed is ugly! Looks like something from the 70s.
DJ, go get yourself a Mystitool. Thge HUD is incredibly discrete and even the L$ 1 version has tons of functions. It comes with full instructions and it works! Just search Mystitool. Or go to Mystical Cookie's profile and check her picks. I think there's a link to her store. The L$ 1 version is in a box by the door. If you have any trouble, IM me and if I'm in world I'll give you hand finding it. Good luck, and chuck the other HUDs. _____________________

Listen to Chas. Mystitool is fantastic and that $1 version is probably as good as the full priced one. I think the name of the sim is Avondale Square and it is right at the front of the store. It's simple to use, click and wear and instruction card comes with it, simple to use. Very subtle on the screen - that other thing you showed is a monster.

Maybe Mark Coffee's just needs to be thrown away (I dont drink coffee anyway), but what about all of the others? The camera one works sometimes (but I dont know how to use it), and not other times, and the others dont work at all.
What are some useful HUDs, where do I get them, and what do they do And where can I "drop things on the ground" to open them? |

I know one place for sure - Goddess Sensi, search for that - it's not the whole name, it's something like Goddess Sensi's Garden, or whatever. But if you put in those two words you'll be fine. And, it's a nice sim too. Take some time to look around, may not be your kind of thing, but you may like to bring someone there one day. _____________________
