Hi everyone,

i work for Linden Lab's PR agency in the UK and i've just heard from the BBC about a programme it is working on.

I've pasted a description below:
On our second show of the new series, on January 4, we are looking to debate the issue of virtual infidelity, asking the question: Can You Commit Adultery Online?

I am looking for an active Second Life user who answers either yes or no to the above question – perhaps somebody who has a relationship in real life but thinks nothing of forming sexual relationships in SL, as it is not ‘real’ cheating; or somebody who did fall in love with someone on SL when they were already in a real-life relationship and admits that an SL affair is cheating.

if this of interest to you, please email me on paulm@lewispr.com

cheers,
Paul

I think it's quite interesting and as we Brits are only just getting on board with this SL thing the media are picking up on it (recent RL divorce case over here). I mean, is sex on SL cheating in RL?

Of course it is, unless the RL partner agrees to it.

(This has the makings of a good thread :))

not this again, please!

When I think about SL, for all its faults, I see an astonishing platform/place where residents create fabulous builds and avatars, there is a thriving arts scene, musicians from all over the world share their music at live concerts, people start businesses (some of them very successful), people help each other learn new skills and languages, raise money for charity ...

Why does it always have to be about this? I look forward to the day when I can talk about SL to people who have not been there without having to explain that all this sex stuff is only one aspect of SL and is in no way compulsory.

Shame on you, BBC!

p.s. yes, it's cheating
p.p.s. when are you going to do MP3 streams so I can listen to The Archers on my parcel?

All those non-UK residents who want to listen or see BBC material should first send me Linden$ to subsidise my licence.

That's what I was going to say. It's between the couple as I met people on SL who feel very stale in their rl marriage if not perhaps heading towards separation in rl if not separated already And I've met some couples who have an open relationship in that this is okay for them to have differing partners on SL.

It's up to the couple and I say shame on BBC too. But then again they say sensationalism sells as do sex topics so these types of topics are all over tv and yellow journalism magazines.

Like the Eagles wrote: "Give us dirty laundry" as applying to "the press" and some people live and breathe that gossipy stuff so it's an unfortunate beast as they have consumers who watch or buy this stuff like it's their precious.

Mmm, interesting posts but I'm interested in knowing - If I'm in a committed relationship in RL and I start a relationship with another person in SL, but don't tell him, am I cheating on him? I really can't decide - maybe I should ask him what he thinks?!

I know a married couple in rl who are both partnered to other people in sl, but their avatars are having an affair (without telling their sl partners) with each other in sl.

Pep (Is this cheating? And what if they didn't realise that they were married in rl?)

There's a thought. Communication. Try it.
