I'll ask him when I get home, but I can assure you it won't be the spurs (if they're in it)...lol. Yep, I don't know much about football (or soccer to us yanks), but I know enough to know that the Gunners and Spurs love to hate each other....lol.

And if Arsenal ever lose to the Spurs, I totally avoid my husband that day. Me and the kids go visit friends for the day. ;)

LOL!!

Maybe dont ask him then.. I was being cruel.. we knocked the Gunners out in the semi's..5- 1

Its very rare for us to beat Arsenal for some reason so we take bragging rights when we can.. so much history there :)

Oh, I know of Football/soccer. Even been to games in the USA (pathetic as our attempt at that sport might be). Visited a stadium in the UK right before a game, but didn't actually go into the stadium. Wild and wacky stuff.

Football is loved in the Uk.. with a passion, sadly though we do have a minority that take wild and wacky to Over the top and insulting...our fans reputation usually precedes us..all because of a minority.

At least I have a year to learn about American Football to fake an interest in it. LOL

a play, or even, heaven forbid, ballet or opera.

No idea what yer all talking about, but....... there's already plays and ballet in SL. Not sure about whole operas, although there's certainly opera singers giving concerts.

Yes I know. I see I didn't make what I was trying to say clear, though that is par for the course (sorry, have to inject sports cliche's into a sports thread). I had just meant that it would be neat to see a play, ballet, etc. but the times never mesh up correctly. Just like there are many music acts out there that I have yet to hear because of either conflicting times (playing at the same time as someone else) or time zone variations.

My husband was completely confused on American football when he moved here. He thought it was a "ridiculous" game....um, think he called it "poofters rugby"...lol. Now he's a Dallas Cowboys fan and watches all of their games. Me, on the other hand, used to hate all sports. I started watching NFL (football) a few years ago and now I really enjoy the game. It gets interesting around our house because I'm NOT a cowboys fan at all. Nope....Philadelphia Eagles for me.

But in English football, I support Arsenal for my husband. ;) Plus, he'd probably kick me out of the house if I didn't. The first outfit he bought for our son on his own was an Arsenal shirt and short outfit.

LOL

The "poofters" things comes from all the padding.

I've explained to those stating this that by comparison, Rugby should be played by Teletubbies.

Yes, that's what he says, too...lol. However, I think our NFL guys hit harder, as I think the playing field is bigger. Gives them more room to get up speed....at least that's what our male American friends claim. ;)

That's a fact. Plus it's a more open game. Those rugby guys smash each other up pretty good, no doubt, but if you've ever seen a free safety come across the field and hit a wide receiver full on when he goes up for the ball, you'll wonder how either one of them survive the collision. That's not taking anything away from rugby, though. Those guys are animals! I wish I understood the rules better; I think I'd really enjoy rugby.

Most of the players look like hockey players. Scars on their faces and missing teeth from being hit! But I agree that in NFL, those hits are immense! If they didn't have the padding and helmets, they'd all be brain dead before the age of 25.
