Erm ... I do get music for people ... and people enjoy it because I play what I like listening to instead of the same ("old" / new) tired songs. I don't work hard at it at all. This week I saw someone with a group tag that said, "^No Limits^" that reminded me of a song and I went on a spree getting a bunch of songs off that one.

I only started DJing because I have the technical know how on doing it and they couldn't find anyone to cover a shift.

Sorry Janshae! We're a bit off topic now, but I wanted to let you know that I didn't mean to imply that you're not doing a good job - sounds like you read your audience really well.

mine is a just different animal. A lot of my people are music geeks who want to hear brand new or relatively obscure music, that has *maybe* been played a bit on college radio, and it takes a lot of research to come up two or three original sets with few repeats each week.

We just cater to audiences with different expectations.

Hi Scylia, I have regular sets at the Velvet, Mixtape, and Bombay (b)Indie - I also occasionally guest dj at the Laundromat, the Nightlight Lounge and Popscene, and I own a club called Applecross where djs from these clubs play in a different sim every month - this month we're playing at Immersiva - here's my blog http://applecrossed.blogspot.com/ You'll find links to these and other clubs there :)

Let it be known that most clubs do not pay their djs - some people assume this is the case, but it is not. In fact, some clubs take a percentage of the dj's tips.

:)

I just recently learned this, and was shocked. Even more reason to yell for tips to the DJ, lol. I should have clarified before, when I do this I am at my own private events, group things, art openings I'm hosting, receptions for something or other, not clubs. I've never been to a club in SL.

I remember trying to explain that to a DJ-to-be. He was so thoroughly convinced that venues would pay for him that he stark raving mad at me for suggesting that it may be up to him to rent a space to host his stream. (=_=)

I'm sure he had a good shot of cold water when he actually went out to work the scene. (^_^)

As a result, my closing statement in my [Streaming Audio Basics in Second Life] notecard is:

"If you don't own a parcel, you're going to have to rely on other land owners to provide a venue. You can search both Classified and Events for available venue providers. Expect to have to pay rent or promote the venue owner's cause of choice if you haven't yet developed a degree of inworld celebrity."

I was being gentle. (^_^)y

Hmm... Mickey, Scylla (in male AV), Treasure and toss in Brenda (because I am very curious about her voice now) at my event this Sunday 12:00 - 16:00 SLT.

It would be most interesting because it is an (Adult) party with generally all female AVs and some hot action. Oh ... yes I think the deep end is a good place to start. Especially since you would probably be treated with the utmost consideration.

(You wouldn't believe the number of women, that are attracted to men, come through our gates just to get away from them and that environment. It is great for de-pressurising.)

Note: I avoided the name of the sim, et cetera. I am selling the idea and situation, which I would like to see, not the event. Just drop me a note card or IM if you are interested :)

Uhhhhhh . . .

I suppose I might consider trying this. Do I have to use a male alt, though? :(

Yes because we can give you a "Butch" tag and you can start adjusting to a male AV where women will treat you like a stronger woman.

I didn't think about pubs. I will check some out. Come to think of it now, I suppose live music venues would be a bit more social and laid back as well. Thanks.

No they are not, to be honest rarely do people converse in open chat at live music venues.......... and you WILL see gesture spamming.

Just my intake..

Smaller gatherings in live music are much more friendler.... I wont go anymore to a show with over 20 or 25 people... its just to much noise and no one talking in open chat.

I guess we go to different venues. The only consistent gesture use that goes on at performances I attend are applause gestures.

I spammed --heavily-- for about 10 minutes at an event recently. Why? Someone with huge prim boobs joined us. I hope they were AFK and didn't scroll up.

As far as I am concerned, what a person wears or does with their AV is their business as long as their prims are not over lapping me like a dragon sitting on me or a penis harasser "touching" me.
