Hi, today bumped somebody into me willfully and with no reason. I flew to the other end of the sim. I think it scalled "kick". My security device was on "movelook" but did not help (mystictools). . I do not wish to harras or grief other peeps, even not the idiots and griefer but i am in a bad need of an state of the art anti toss, cage, etc defensive security device. Please can somebodyadvise me one what i should buy. Needs to have strong features and updated regularily.
Thank you.

proTEC...or just sit!
04-02-2008 01:15
ProTEC shield by aubreTEC (see Search) is a very good shield, which has been around for a long time and yet which has had a fairly recent update and is by one of SL's more well known scripters. I can recommend it as I've had it for nearly 2 years now.
However, I will say that if you feel threatened by someone, just sitting on something is in almost all instances enough to protect you from being harmed (only common exception is on damage enabled land).
The ProTEC has a mode however which can intercept attacks which are unexpected, and this can be useful since you can't always be ready for a griefer.

There's also a non-physical vehicle in the Mystitool (I made a button for it along with movelock that is on my screen all the time). The NPV is simply rezzed (it looks like a blue glowing orb) then you sit on it. The orb disappears and you are surrounded by an invisible bubble. You can walk and move around, but now can't be pushed or orbited, caged, etc. I've used it on a couple of occasions and find it really helpful.

Is this reaction based on just the one negative incident?

I think it's more like the one incident showed that the defensive tool he has is not working. Not paranoia, more like questioning why use the HUD slot and scripting overhead for a device that is not doing what he wants to do.
Mystitool, is a good device, but it is much more than just defense. If defense is all you care about, there are better ways to do this. Thus the question.

There is NO defensive shields or actions you can take to prevent this. There is NO way to defend yourself. If you do manage to program/script/build something that does work you will make a crap load of money. but so far there is nothing that can defend you from every type of attack available in world. Hang out in some combat sandboxes and see for yourself

It is annoying but it's relatively rare. Not worth getting an AR from someone who is harassing YOU.
Just shrug and put it down to experience. Last time someone did this to me I looked at the profile - she was apparently a 33 year old and it was pretty clear both from what she had put and her picture (she truly looked like a crack addict) that I was probably having a far more pleasant life than she was.
Not worth getting into it with people, really.
Re Mystitool - it absolutely rocks for so many reasons. I have no idea why I didn't get one earlier. However, as an offensive weapon, it's pretty much redundant in my case. Plus, if scripts aren't allowed, things won't work unless you go in armed anyway.

I was orbited by some furry thing with a lightsaber once at some freebie store when I first joined. He followed me but I just ignored him so he got no lulz. heh

True. These shields are just something for peace of mind. You believe its working because you haven't been orbited or shot but thats usually because no one has done it. And if it does happen and you're orbited or hit it the sim or sl usually gets the blame. If someone does shoot and nothing happens its most likely on their end as their weapon is probably crap. Like this guy said, go to a sandbox and try it out. One more thing, this Mystitool is sooo overrated. I have it and I don't even use it.

Since I quit going to places like the shelter or NCI, or sandboxes this has never happen to me. When it did I had no clue why it had but I figured it had to do with the place I went. Also I notice because I have land and rarely go out of the group land with few exceptions this doesn't happen either. LOL

Whilst I have written various protective devices I almost never actually use them. Very occasionally, I will sit on a nonphysical vehicle when in the presence of a known griefer (this has never failed) but I certainly do not wander around lagging sims with "shields". In fact, I find that people who do usually cause far more irritation that deliberate attackers - certainly the last time I was pushed, it was by somebody who had left a shield on by mistake. (Besides, lots of them use multiple super-rapid sensors.)
If somebody is causing aggravation in a public place the most effective thing to do is report them to the owner of said place, as well as LL. You do, after all, know who they are in all but the most obscure cases. I never fail to AR anyone who bumps, pushes or hits me maliciously.

I've only been caged or orbited a couple of times, I just laugh it off. Same with bumping. If it is done repeatedly I etirher ignore it and move on or bump them back once and tell them to take a hike. I have a musti tool, but I don't wear it. In fact I was just sent an updated one the other day, I haven't even looked at it.

Having never been griefed or pushed, I finally decided to do it to myself - just to see. I had my dog attack me and went flying. Since he was also set to 'follow', before I even had a chance to stop him, there I went again - Whooosh!
I finally ended up in someone's dungeon with no exit. Had to teleport back to my starting place and found my dog using map. He seemed to have a sheepish grin on his face...

OK, I keep hearing about this "Mystitool". What is it, and why should I spend/waste the $L (or not)?

From: Dakota Tebaldi OK, I keep hearing about this "Mystitool". What is it, and why should I spend/waste the $L (or not)? Mystitool is the Swiss Army Knife of HUDs. It has a a variety of very useful features, of different sorts. Sensors: You can have a listing of nearby AVs on the HUD, or a notification whenever someone moves into chat range. You can scan an entire sim to find all the avs (if permissions allow it). You can also scan for scripted objects. There's an av follower chair, and a particle stream to locate a specific av. Landmarks: There are two different mechanisms for managing landmarks, as well as a teleport history. Object Rezzers: A standard posing stand, a deluxe posing stand with multiple poses, rez a platform underfoot, or rez a sky platform that will take you to the specified height first. Defense: As already mentioned, a simple movelock as well as a non-phys vehicle. Some offensive toys, other toys, etc.

So far I have never been orbited and I have been on the grid almost exactly a year. I don't seemed to meet very many griefers either but I do tend to stay away from Welcome Areas even I though I like to explore or perhaps it is a time of day thing.

right above the abuse report is hits & bumps, pushes. When you find yourself kicked or messed with the attackers name can be found there. Once armed with the name you can then report the abuse.
There are shields used by some and you my wish, depending on the situation, to IM the culprit and ask why. If the response shows then to be less than apologetic it may be reason enough to grant them the AR.
At times I will do this and though its usually been somone being a jerk, a couple times it was merely an accident. It's your call.

In fact, I find that people who do usually cause far more irritation that deliberate attackers - certainly the last time I was pushed, it was by somebody who had left a shield on by mistake. (Besides, lots of them use multiple super-rapid sensors.) What she said. I got orbitted a week or two ago while I was quietly puttering about in my workshop. My Mystitool helpfully told me what object had pushed me and who owned it (it was an item usefully named "orbit" so there wasn't much doubt there). So I IMd the owner of said device (who was standing in my store above the workshop at the time) and drily asked them "Was that really necessary?" They seemed quite bewildered by it all, so I quoted Mystitool's little push-identifying message to them, and they were quite mortified. Apparently they'd been fiddling with their shield at the time and it had (supposedly) orbitted me all by itself. Certainly the person had no particular motivation that I could see to intentionally attack me, since they were at the time buying a bunch of stuff in my store. So I didn't bother ARing them, I just told 'em to be a bit more careful with their shields next time, and that seemed to end that. I do wonder about these over-excitable shields, though. I've no real interest in shields or weaponry (at least, much beyond blowing stuff up on my own land for fun - thanks Annabelle for the lovely destructible buildings!) so I haven't really paid much attention to how they work. Are many of them really so badly made that their users can inadvertently orbit folk they aren't even interacting without even realising?
