Is this sort of behavior common in groups around here?

aw Piri this guy sounds like a right f***wit. Just ignore him. He's being a dick because he thinks he can do what he wants. Don't let it taint your view of everyone else. As you can probably tell by the forums, most people tend to be nice and willing to help. You are bound to run across the odd idiot. Just like in RL. Hi and welcome to SL and the forums

Wow, moron alert....Piri, if you want something with a less strict meeting schedule, I co-own a group called "Multilingual" for anyone interested in languages and linguistics. We're not teaching, but talk about anything to do with languages. You can find us in "search", and no, not everyone working with languages is such an arsehole as that particular person you had the misfortune to meet...

If this is the same group that I'm currently looking at in-world (using the OP's description as a search text), membership seems to have shrunk to 2 students by now. Given the apparent abrasive behaviour, this is quite understandable.
Sorry about your bad experience, Piri. You were exceedingly courteous being confronted by a very unfriendly person.

heh, i applaud your Restraint. You must have children to be able to deal with such a pillar of Slsociety so calmly and politly. Welcome to SL, and no, not all groups are run by egomaniacal asshats.

But the third job, some call it, uh, "the show" or "the big dance," it's the profession that every linden aspires to.

I was thinking the same thing. I'd have great fun with this one. We should get dozens to sign up and not show up for class.

Maybe the guy had a bad day. Still no excuse for how you were belittled. Hope your next experience is much better.

Expect this and much more to happen in sl. Contrary to the pretty picture many would like you to believe, this happens and not only with groups but with everything else. Especially when money is involved.
Yes, there are many people who aren't like the op showed. They're helpful and courteous but there are also many others that are the complete opposite.
Call it down the middle and stop trying to pretend stuff like this doesn't happen a lot in different situations of the game.
Anyway, everyone who stays in sl gets to see for themselves as time goes by.

From: Piri Latte Am I to expect this sort of behavior from fellow residents? i would say that any bad behavior you might find in RL should be expected to appear in SL as well.

From: Sylvia Trilling ...The nicest bunch of people I ever found hang out at the forum cartel club house. You are most welcome to drop by anytime. Yep. And if you can push through the crowd of us socialites, you'll find some wizard scripters. If LSL is the "xxx" language you were trying to take a class on, we got your resources right here.

What might be better is to have the entire class show up somewhere else and then IM him asking him where HE is? throw a couple of swears in to make him feel loved, then tell him that we're going to have to let him go as our teacher because he can't make it to class on time.

I received my instructions, read them CAREFULLY...
12-11-2007 07:45
Hey Piri, Its extremely rare...I had only one 'similar' experience that caused my blood pressure to skyrocket. I was in the process of joining one of the many Star Wars RP groups (which one I will not say)... I received my instructions, read them CAREFULLY, donned my tactical gear (A weapon RP HUD), TPed to the surface of the planet, and was immediately killed. (The rules clearly stated that no one is allowed to shoot at an unwilling target, in so many words) OK so that was cool, now I am dead, and rather upset. I hold my peace while someone helps TP me to the bacta tank in the infirmary. So here I am floating in this healing liquid, helpless and vulnerable in a completely alien environment; in the room are several 'Jedi' discussing their next mission to a Sith planet to rescue a fellow Jedi. Lo and behold, a Sith TP's into the infirmary with a thermal bomb in his hand. I finally recover and now I am standing beside the bacta tank that I had just occupied. So no one could leave the room because the Sith was standing on the TP portal and telling everyone to stand back or he will do a 'terrorist act, and blow everyone (including himself) to vapor. Well, I was still recovering (emotionally) from being killed earlier and this guy was beginning to piss me off. I told him he was in a neutral location and to put the weapon away. EMEDIATELY everyone (including the Jedi) began to heckle me and tell me I was OOC (Out Of Character), the Sith began to insult my manhood and called me a pussy and a fag ECT... ECT... ECT. I found my BP was reaching the critical level. So I did the only thing I knew to do, I TPed home. I am an avid Star Wars fan, and 3D artist in one of the top EAW mod games, so I assumed I would be welcomed into the group; I even selected a non combative social class. Did they care? Not in the least, innocent bystanders get shot on the spot before they get a chance to learn the RP 'ropes.' since that incident, I left the group, and began developing friendships on Rasta Island, the BEST little Reggae Island on SL (which by the way, was, and is my home) You aught to stop by, and I am sure you will get a very warm welcome...there are no strings, no snobs, and no RP requirements. We have people from many languages stop by there and stay. So I said all that to say, You may find a rare bad experience in SL, but they are the exception to the norm. From: Xplorer Cannoli Maybe the guy had a bad day. Still no excuse for how you were belittled. Hope your next experience is much better. Well we all have bad days from time to time, but this guy sounds like he's anal from the get go...I would NEVER treat someone like that even on my worst day!!!

The experience sounds almost Monty Pythonish...
I would make a group just for this jerk, call it something like SL Jerks and send him an invite.
