Nope. Just the name in the profile, and you are limited to one. :D

It is as much as you want to make of it.

In RL instead of getting married I would just find someone I want to hate and buy them a house.

lol.

It is just for show. It basically shows on your profile you are committed to someone. Hubby and I have been together for 6 months. Partnered for 3. If we ever were to seperate he would take his things and I would take mine. As for land, we had a prenup :D

If only it were that simple IRL LOL

Anyone who knows me, knows I don't do the SL romance thing.....but as much as I have seen some real drama and crap with partners in SL.....I also do know some really happy couples who seem to enjoy their SL life together...and you know what, if it works for ya....more power to ya~! ;)

I like my RL romance..keeps me quite happy, I just goof off with photography and sh** in SL. hehe

Is there something more to having a partner than just having the name appear in your profile.

Is the partner entitled to any thing in the event of a divorce?

Does the partner get half of your stuff?

"CX"

Can you imagine if that were true? You'd have all these day old gold diggers running about trying to seduce any wealthy looking SL resident. I'd imagine everyone would be partnering up with an alt to avoid getting hassled.

As for improving partnerships I'd say they should raise the price to 10,000 lindens for each partner to pay and make it non-refundable in case of divorce.

OMG! CX, I think Claire and I need to sit down with you some time and have a chat!

Partnering for us is simply a public way of expressing our affection and love for one another. and there is a lot more to our love than what is generally thought...it's based on friendship.

In our partnership there is:

No control
No one in charge
No chains
No drama
No unkind words
No manipulation
No conditions
No jelousy
No suspicion
No fear
No dread
No arguments

I guess that doesnt leave much else except:

Freedom
Respect
Kindness
Thoughtfulness
Engaging conversation
Excitement
Joy
Happiness
Fulfilment
Forgiveness
Never a dull moment
Peace and love

And the list goes on...

I am not sure what others base thier partnerships on, but I hope you have a clearer picture of a partnership that works very well in good times and even in the bad times.

I'm still not quite sure why people get married in RL.

I have an Aunt and Uncle who've been together for about 45 years, never married. And, yes, they still care and respect each other.
None of us (children) have been married. I think it's different for each person. People tend to carry over what they think is proper from their RL into SL.

Nice one Graph.

It's all based on friendship I would hope otherwise why bother?

~unless its part of some rp thing.

CLEARLY, we're looking for different things in relationships.. This sounds boring to me.

Graph I hope you know, I admire you and Claire very much. My question did come off cynical. You and Claire have what you have and I don't think you need to give $10L to 2L to make it official unless it gives you a break on tier or some other benefit.

Before anyone goes around spreading rumors, I am not looking to make a partnership with anyone. I am just trying to understand how the "game" is played.

When my wife and I were married for about a year, I remember going out to eat with another couple. We held hands as we walked up the the resturant doors and the other couple were kidding us about it saying thing like, "wait til you married 5 years."

After 5 years we still held hands, only then people were saying wait til you have been married for 7.

Seven years and we still held hands and kissed in public --- but wait till your married 10 years.

Then 15

In July we will have been maried 18 years. We still hold hands when walking. I still put my arm around her at the movies. I still kiss her everyday and any chance I get.

Maybe I'm just weird but am I suposed to hate my wife for some reason?

The main purpose of offering the "Partner" option is that Linden Labs can charge a fee for setting up the partnership, and another fee for dissolving it.

The one and only effect of having a Partner is that your Partner's name will show up in the Partner field of your profile.

Now, there are a lot of people who think that having a Second Life Partner is fun, and that it enhances their enjoyment of Second Life. If that's the case, then that's just fun, the purpose is to have fun.

Committed romantic relationships between two people are a huge Western cultural phenomenon, so it sort of makes sense that Second Life would find a way to emulate it. It's implemented probably the best way such a system could be implemented: No big set of rules goes along with it. Linden Labs gives you the profile space to proclaim your partnership. Beyond that, what the partnership means is entirely up to the partners.

My wife and I celebrated our 25th anniversary in December. We went to Vegas and my wife wanted to take a gondola ride at the Venetian. The guy couldn't believe we still got along after all those years. We even have people tell us we have a bad marriage because we don't fight with each other.

I'll have 30 years next year. We typically go on seperate vacations because I can't stand Disney World. "CX"
