Hi everyone,
I write for the SL newspaper and if any of you has adopted a "different" style than the mainstream, I would like to ask you a couple of questions.
By different, I mean other than the typical thin, white European or American style. If your avatar has black skin or even more exotic such as Latin American or any type from the Asian continent. Maybe even body size. Did you make yourself fat, or very short? If so, you are what I am looking for and I want to ask you a few questions.
Please don't hesitate to send me a private message here or an IM in -world so we can get in touch.

what about someone who changes skins, shapes, hair, clothes etc, multiple times a day with no set skin color or body shape or hair style?

here is a profile pic of my avatar: http://lh3.ggpht.com/david.stumbaugh/SOeZhNOn5FI/AAAAAAAAAHk/X1bqMP2WEfU/s912/Snapshot_001%20%282%29.jpgI am not a human in Second Life, I am a Cyanist, a person who exists in a different dimension that natively moves through space and time as if it was water. Question Away!

For a newspaper, I am somewhat surprised that you have missed the news about trademark enforcement Whatever one may think of that rule, LL *is* enforcing it, and "SL Newspaper" is in flamingly blatant violation of that, using SL and one generic noun, hinting at official status.

Just wondering if you could ask where they got their shape, next time you meet a thin european or american style guy. I'm still not happy with my avatar, and the reason are those bloody steroid muscles on every single male shape in every single shop. Trust me, thin guys are actually pretty rare, except for the newbie shape perhaps. Oh, and what would be mainstream? That's very much subject to debate as well, since rl mainstream style seems completely not sl mainstream style, and vice versa.

You are addressing this comment to the wrong person since I do not manage the paper. I just write for it.To voice the concern at the proper place, the best thing is to contact the editors. I will correct you where you are wrong on facts, however. We did not miss the annoucement on the part of Linden Lab. It's not that I mind personally. I was just a little surprised to see it used like this, considering that LL has been smacking down left and right lately. (Though the non-capitalization of "newspaper" did throw me, reading it as a generic "newspaper", and not as part of the name, hence my question what was considered "the" SL newspaper; that was not meant as snide sarcasm).
But, more on topic: I sit somewhere between neko and furry, using the Linden sliders (not prims) for a slightly unusual body shape, and having fur rather than skin. Are you looking for such as well, or only "human-but-not-supermodel"?

This does raise the question of what is normal in SL. I see a lot of non-anglo avs; the oriental look seems especially popular. And while my SL shape would be considered slim and tall in RL, here I'm relatively short & curvy. Even then, there are at least four people in my group of friends who are even shorter (they are pixies, or some variation). This doesn't even count the various neko, anthro, furry and quad avs out there.
@Marcush: I'll send you a moddable male shape you can try. It's one I built for a RL friend who wanted his av to match his RL appearance. I can't guarantee it's what you want, but it's relatively slim and not 7 feet tall. If you don't like it, try changing it to suit.

From: Kelli May This does raise the question of what is normal in SL. There's a normal? I think there's a common, or a "popular." I dunno if we have a "normal," though.

As a black male, both in SL and RL, I take great offense at the original post.
Am I somehow different? Not normal because I am black?

I just KNOW that I can find SOME WAY to be offended by the OP's question.
That's what I am supposed to do, right?

Hey, I'm different for a Neko! Not into the whole grunge/punk/post-Apocalyptic alley cat thing at ALL.

Am I somehow different? Not normal because I am black? i'm Native American in and out of SL. nowhere in the definition of the word different does the meaning of not being normal come into play.. it's easy to see what she is asking if you can look and see it is about sl shades of skins and shapes of bodies of all kinds besides the typical and not about race..have you used original qualities that are not like everyone else??are you original in your creation?? when i first came to sl every dancer i saw was blond hair huge bewbs longest hair you could find and blue eyes and light skin. if i were to follow that pattern i would be considered mainstream or using the style of that time or the same as everyone else.. as a minority myself i would look at it as flattering more than offensive to be considered not so typical.. This is SL and we have the choice to be who and what we want here so RL should not even be an issue since white can be black and black can be white and Native can be a cat and an adult can be a child again..then ten minutes later(lag permitting) we can be anything else we choose we are all normal but at the same time different hehehehe
