When SL gets tough and things get touchy, how many of you just want to toss in the towel and say the heck with it all? When you have those days, how do you manage to get back on track?

This is how I do it... (sure does drive it home as to why folks love to be a kid in SL)

(oldie but a goodie)
RESIGNATION

I am hereby officially tendering
my resignation as an adult. I have
decided I would like to accept the
responsibilities of an 8 year-old again.

I want to go to McDonald's and think
that it's a four star restaurant.

I want to sail sticks across a fresh mud
puddle and make a sidewalk with rocks.

I want to think M&Ms are better than
money because you can eat them.

I want to lie under a big oak tree and
run a lemonade stand with my friends on
a hot summer's day.

I want to return to a time when life was
simple; When all you knew were colors,
multiplication tables, and nursery
rhymes, but that didn't bother you,
because you didn't know what you
didn't know and you didn't care.

All you knew was to be happy
because you were blissfully unaware of
all the things that should make you
worried or upset.

I want to think the world is fair.
That everyone is honest and good.

I want to believe that anything is
possible. I want to be oblivious
to the complexities of life and be
overly excited by the little things
again.

I want to live simple again. I
don't want my day to consist of
computer crashes, mountains of paperwork,
depressing news, how to survive more days
in the month than there is money in the
bank, doctor bills, gossip, illness,
and loss of loved ones.

I want to believe in the power of
smiles, hugs, a kind word, truth,
justice, peace, dreams, the imagination,
mankind, and making angels in the snow.

So . . . here's my checkbook
and my car-keys, my credit card bills
and my 401K statements. I am officially
resigning from adulthood.

And if you want to discuss this
further, you'll have to catch me
first, cause........
......"Tag! You're it."

At the risk of sounding like a forum cop....have the rules changed lately? I understand the undying thread...and I think it's being left open because it gives us all a place to play...but some of the threads today are really not in compliance with forum rules.

If we're not under as stringent rules anymore, I wish someone would tell us!

this has a question, and a serious one (I added the fun part because I am feeling blue, stressed out, tired of life (both SL and FL) and everything else in between)

I seriously want to know, how folks deal with it when SL gets to them, how they manage to get past the rocky parts

hell if the joke thread is acceptable then this one should be (not dissing the joke thread)

Some rules sucks, some are necessary. Not being able to play in RA is definitely one of the rules that suck. I'm not here to enforce them, just not wanting this forum shut down!

If they're giving us the leeway to have fun and use the forum as we wish to, it would just be nice to be told that the ruler isn't hovering over our hands anymore ;)

SL is a major vehicle I use to get "back on track" when my RL "gets tough and things get touchy." I find nothing that happens in SL as frustrating, difficult, and frought with peril as things can be on this side of the keyboard. That said, overall life is pretty good out here too.
I cannot share the desire to return to childhood because I do not recall it as a more carefree or fun time, just as one in which I had less control over the course of events. As a child I wanted to be an adult; as an adult I have no desire whatsoever to be a child.

Yes Rha...I have days like that...

I dont resort to a kid avy though... i log in on my alt who is a tiny squirrel monkey and enjoy exploring areas I never get to do with my reg avy. He's just so damn cute and when he flys his tail spins in helicoptor mode...

btw...i dont speak to any when in monkey mode, i mean..monkeys don't talk?

but if if someone has a rude comment..its always fun to see this innocent tiny squirrel monkey pull out both handheld machine guns that are bigger then the monkey himself...kinda intimidating..lol

....we all need to get away and play, beit kid avy or squirrel monkey. =P

Sorry to hear you're stressed out Rha :(

If SL is stressing you out...it may be time for a break. SL is supposed to be fun. Put Rha away and bring out an alt, and go on a wild tear for awhile :)

SL not stressing me out as much as RL is
court in one week, can not get it off my mind, hubby says don't worry, I end up worrying though

then that makes me snippy, and say things I do not mean, type before I think
yesterday I got pissy at a good friend in SL, because he said something to me jokingly and I took it seriously
(I read too damn many forums, and am not fond of seeing myself portrayed as a crazy woman, even though right now I feel like one)

all I want to do is crawl back in bed, curl up into a ball and cry like a baby

but I have to be strong, I have to carry on

so I try to find the motivation to log in and do the pics for the ads for stuff I want to release, but.. I find myself sitting here...

wondering how others get past such hurdles in life... hoping this is not the one that is the proverbial straw so to speak

so, it is not SL stressing me, it is RL, which makes it hard to enjoy SL

:(

Booooooo!!!

I am sure you are right, but

Booooo!!!!

[/childishness]

Actually I don't think this is that off-topic. The OP is about coping with stress in sl. Also, after some of the recent threads it is a breath of fresh air to be reminded of some of the positive reasons for creating a child avatar.

OK, at the risk of getting seriously slammed by some hard core women....

While we have to be strong all the freaking time, there are times where we just have to let go.

Go climb into bed, grab a teddy bear on the way. And just cry. Hard. For as long as you want. You'll feel better for it, I promise.

Aw, Rha...*hugs*
For me, RL bad times are much worse than a little SL trouble.

Things get 'serious' in SL when people spend too much time getting involved in other people's business. The hysterics, the gossip, flaming, innuendo and assumptions such things engender often makes me believe that people enjoy the drama.
I've never thought to 'throw in the towel'. This is my SL - when it gets rocky, I just change it.

My solution is to roll my eyes heavenward, silently call the drama-queen a wanker, ignore them and turn my attention elsewhere. I rarely involve myself in issues that don't concern me, which does NOT mean I don't enjoy my friends and the fun we have.

Drama is only fun when it's someone else's.

Rha! Great poem, I heard it before and still enjoy it.

I think you have it tougher than other folks simply because your RL is tied so closely to SL. SL is an escape for me. I thought I wanted a business in SL but once I returned to the simpler enjoyment of "the game" I feel much better.

In the past two months of SL I have had more enjoyment and more pleasure than I have had since I started SL. You are part of that enjoyment, I cherish the photo I have with you and the "Linden". I have sought out the fun parts of SL and left the drama behind me.

Perhaps Honeybear is right, I know when my life hits the crapper I feel like doing the same thing. I still have to get up, dry my tears and proceed.

Hugs to you my friend I wish you all the best. You know if there is something I can do please ask.

Many times. Honestly if I log in today and my sim is running at 1/2 script speed like everyone is saying they are, I likely will quit. I'm quite fed up with LL f**king things up.

SL is entertainmnet for me. If I am not enjoying it, I go do something else. Nothing to get stressed about.

thanks, heh yeah that was a rare time for me, usually I am too busy for much of anything...

as for the go ahead and cry it will make me feel better, no it won't
my eyes will be all puffy and hurt, my nose will be all stuffy and my head will hurt (I get bad headaches if I cry)

so.. I do have to be strong and suck it up, as hard as that is to do

(I am still trying to take these ad pics and I just sit and stare at the pose LOL)

I know all about that, the crying itself would be okay, but the headache...and the fact that you look like Muhammad Ali has decked you doesn't help either....

When I get stressed I find tieing my husband to the bed and whipping him till he's senseless really helps! ... oh wait you mean in SL! .. nevermind!
