From: Broccoli Curry Before you, your friends, your children, or whatever, go out knocking on doors doing 'trick or treat', think how you react when the local religious group knock on the door. You don't welcome it? You yell abuse at them, thinking it's intrusion into your privacy and your right to do whatever you like? Well this is exactly how I feel about 'trick or treat'. It's not about dressing up kids in cute costumes and collecting candybars from your neighbours, however much people like to think it is. I usually like to stay out of these kinds of threads, but sweeping generalizations tend to bug me. IMHO, you are wrong on this point. Where I live, we often get local religious groups knocking on the door, and at all hours...mostly EARLY saturday mornings. I, for one, am never rude or disrespectful to these people, and I am not a Christian. Many times I have welcomed them into my home and had some wonderful discussions about each other's beliefs. There are a handful that are now my friends. Yell abuse at them? Never. Intrusion of my privacy? Only if they broke into my home. If some children want to play dress up for a day and play make-believe (kind of like some do here in SL with our avatars), and feel like they've hit the lottery when they sort through their goody-bag, who I am to judge them or be angry that they do so? It is not my place to put people down for such things...I am not "god". Just keep your porch light out and don't answer the door if it bothers you, they won't come knocking. sorry for rambling, but I feel much better now... And the Lindens aren't upgrading.. they will be dancing around a fire naked praying to the computer gods to stabilize the grid

I like to buy the expensive candy bars because I remember how awesome it was to get those. I don't give a fig about religion; it's just fun to dress up.

Sometime protesting is usefull: UPGRADE IS CANCELLED. Now you can continue to talk about "what's halloween", the problem is solved.

To the original poster: Amen brother! All those support tickets will have to be addressed at the Monday morning support meeting, as Linden Labs appears to have some proper management practices.
To Broccoli: I took you off my ignore list to see what you had to say about LL's poor judgment du jour. Now I know why I put you on my ignore list in the first place, and that's where you will be returning to. Mods shouldn't be trolls and thread hijackers.

to the credit of LL.... well, it's not really positive, but relevent.... they postponed that last 2-3 upgrades, so this should nto be a surprise. so glad everyone who didn't want the halloween upgrade is getting their wish. now just go have some fun, and worry about the important things in SL .... like if you'll be ruthed all night and your $2000L costume won't rez, or if your sim is the only one offline.

From: KaiLastOfTheBrunnenG Macdonald To the original poster: Amen brother! All those support tickets will have to be addressed at the Monday morning support meeting, as Linden Labs appears to have some proper management practices. And they damn well deserve to get every last one of them! They've canceled this ridiculous plan, all right, but they want to make it VERY CLEAR that they DIDN'T EVEN HEAR the pathetic peeps from their totally irrelevant PAYING CUSTOMERS, who PAY THEIR SALARY, and that it had NOTHING TO DO WITH US or our miserable pointless little second lives. GOD FORBID they would cancel it on our account, even partly! They could have at LEAST added something like, "And this will be very nice for those of you who had plans on the grid," even if the rest of it was a total lie, but NOOOOOO - that would be TANTAMOUNT to ADMITTING that they even HEARD us, or that we matter at ALL, much less that we are their CUSTOMERS. Then again, we aren't CBS, so WE don't MATTER. I'm pissed, yes. Totally. I've never run into such hubris before. How DARE they behave like this? You are supposed to at least PRETEND that your customers matter, and that you MIGHT hear them. Instead, it's like they've got to make it REAL CLEAR that it had NOTHING to do with us. I'd like to hear the excuse for THAT, yes I would, very much. coco

From: Joshua Linden And yes… the angry mob surrounding the castle with torches and pitchforks made its voice heard! I admit to being totally oblivious by scheduling an outage on the date of one of our favorite annual celebrations. Mea culpa! The shambling horror will slip back into the shadows… for now… LL does (usually) end up doing the right thing, but it would be nice if they just got things right the first time around (applies to more than announcements or decisions).

lol... someone got angry, and someone listened... someone noticed that they "hided" the turning back beyond the "more time to program the upgrade..." instead admit the bad decision in the first place... then they added the "mea culpa" too (yes it has been added later). I'm not bitchin' here, but the opposite... i apprecciate the fact that they are giving (this time) a precise indicator that someone is listening us, coz feeling to talk to the wind were being frustrating.

I'm not a mod here... neither am I a troll or thread hijacker, I just don't back down from a perfectly valid viewpoint or exercising my right to share it. I have no idea who you are, and frankly neither do I care... and since you won't read this anyway I could be really rude about you too. I am surprised that none of you are seeing this for what it really is. 1) Make really silly decision that will upset a lot of people. 2) Sit back and wait for the complaints. 3) Announce you listened to the community, and change the decision. 4) Use it as an example of how you care about the community and how our views are important. It was a set up from the start. I'm surprised nobody else can see that. Broccoli

It was a set up from the start. I'm surprised nobody else can see that. They're not that stupid. Sooner or later some tier categories will increase and everyone's going to be convinced they can do something about it (after all "complaining" solved last November's mess), leading to even more outrage when LL doesn't back down. Postponing VAT for mainland owners also didn't make up for a bombshell of an announcement on something they later said they knew they were going to do months in advance. They're just lacking common sense when it comes to making announcements and planning things out.

.... and cancel christmas! (love that quote)

From: Abba Thiebaud You forget for a moment, despite all the events scheduled, despite all the sales going on, and despite all the hype regarding Halloween, it's been scheduled for Wednesday, October 31, 2007 forever. And you also forget for a moment that LL has (for the last year that I've been a resi anyway) ALWAYS had Wednesdays set aside as a down day. didn't forget at all, having been here a bit longer I "remember" that LL frequently pushes update days back or forward for various reasons, and I also "remember" how frequently a planned update results in unscheduled updates immediately afterwards resulting in even MORE downtime to patch the patches that the update was supposed to patch. From: someone Wasting resources (Live Chat) on lesser things like this is what cheapens the real issues SL may be having. It also is what causes the "Cry Wolf" syndrome, where someone somewhere really will have an issue, but, because of so many people harping on about a known down time on a known day, gets ignored and labeled as another whiny complainer. I honestly can't see how one person (or a hundred for that matter), politely (as I suggested) making a request to pass along a message to their upline, could be construed to label another person with an entirely different issue as anything. If you know a different method to make a polite mass request heard in a timely manner, I'm open to it, otherwise it's a matter of (mis)using the resources available... if you have a tack and no hammer, sometimes you just use a shoe From: someone I don't know Broccoli from anywhere but the forums here, but I think (personal opinion, mind you) jumping all over Broccoli, issuing blanket statements regarding intelligence, and not listening to an opposing opinion with respect only causes resentment I'll assume you you meant the other person you quoted? I tend to agree. Please group statments with their quotes? thanks =) signed, In disagreement, and happy LL modified their plan =)

I'm not sure whether it's a lack of common sense or whether it's deliberate policy. They knew the gambling ban was coming too, they announced that suddenly too. Looking back I see there was an outcry when they increased the tier fee for Islands. They've done this quite a few times and others have told me that it does seem to be deliberate policy to make sudden announcements. Even in this case it appears that they were reluctant to admit that they listened to their customers. The initial blog made no mention of it, although a Linden I spoke to you yesterday did say that they knew people were unhappy about Halloween downtime and were considering whether they could change the maintenance date.
