Important question: why do some type SIM in all caps?

I've seen the word SIM typed in all caps by quite a few on these forums and in-world. Seeing as sim is short for simulator, wouldn't SIM=SIMULATOR?

So why :V

Yes. This question should be answered by the top people at LL.
A resident is concerned and needs answers, most importantly, we all need this answer or we may boycott the whole charade.

simple. acronyms should be capitalized if they are to be grammatically correct.

It's a shame 'sim' is an abbreviation then, eh? :p

Apparently, "simulator" *is* a valid definition of the acronym: SIM.

But wouldn't you consider a word made from the first letters of *one* word to be an abbreviation before an acronym?

I've just been looking at this site Walker, and I would advise to not reference it too seriously; they have abbreviations such as 'FBI' listed, which is clearly not an acronym.

However, I suppose an acronym is an abreviation anyway, and so will retract my teasing comment 3Ring :D

acronym: a word formed from initials.
FBI = Federal Bureau of Investigations. definitely an acronym.

It's not. An acronym is a word made from the first letters/syllables of other words. I'd be interested to hear how you pronounce 'fbi' as a word ;)

NATO is an acronym because you pronounce it as a word, rather than spell out the letters. FBI is not an acronym because you spell out the letters.

FBI is not a word. FBI is an abbreviation.
SIM is a word. It's an acronym.

An acronym is actually a class of abbreviation. Example: SIM could also be considered an abbreviation, but FBI could never be considered an acronym.

This is GCSE English stuff. ;)

But anyway.

LOL! Well I think we both win. I'm pretty sure that 'sim' in SL is an abbreviation for 'simulator' rather than 'simulator in memory', but in the strictest sense, even an abbreviation of one word that forms another can be considered as an acronym.

Evens?

:D

I did come very close to editing a disclaimer into my post. Something to the effect of "please tell me this site isn't written by Wikipedia types." :D

The "free" bit in the URL made me suspicious. ;)

after researching, FBI is an acronym, which is a form of an abbreviation, this particular form coming in at the initialism level. we are all right. WHEW! it took me a long time and some effort to be 'right' this time. LOLOL
