Anybody who hasn't experienced the joy of what highly-animated gifs can do to some people can, if you have a tube monitor (not an LCD) can turn the refresh rate down to 60Hz or below then turn your head so it's in your peripheral vision and try to read a book or something. At least for me it's a very similar effect and, with some types of images, distracting to the point of not being able to read.

It ain't about not cluttering up my screen, it's about not getting headaches and being able to read..

So many people these days keep vigilant watch for things to be annoyed by, and then once found, demand that the annoyance be removed forthwith. The way you worded your OP kinda leaned that way.

If these flashy things present not an annoyance, but a disability to you, I can totally understand that and empathize.

I'm pleased that you've found a solution via other posters in this thread, and I apologize for being snarky.

certain animated graphics... and movement of certain colours actually gives me seizures (i've known other people who it gives them a severe sense of vertigo)... i really don't know why some people need flashing bright pink to green to blue avatars.. or a swirl of other bright colours that are flashing a different colour or a swirl of colours a frame a second or several frames a second...... i don't see why they'd do it \other\ than to annoy people.

i know there are more important issues in the world.. sure.. but often times when i see someone with a flashing avatar i wanna ask "why!" ... of course.. inevitably it will be "because i can".. which.. meh..

Anyway, ya. i never run animated graphics in SL because of this, and thus miss out on the "fireplace fire" crackling.. and loads of other things, all because a few people need to make their textures flash crazy.

But you're not alone in it bothering you.

Edit: avatars like Logan Bauer and Ann Launay don't bother me.. even though they are animated... they're not the sort i'm talking about..

I am annoyed by many things in this forum and in life. Though I never felt the need to make a thread telling people about them. There are many ways to block images,turn off avatars etc..... Use them and stop whining about what other people do with their own accounts. Take responsibility for your own problems and stop expecting the world to cater to your needs.

Animated GIFs are not mere annoyances. As long as artworks are twitching, I'm unable to read the text near to them.

I don't recall turning it off, but I don't see animated gifs and never have so I was utterly confused over this post LOL.
